Open rate can get screwed. My bud was open, then they switched his rate on him about a year in. When time came to test for promotion, he knew dickall about his new rate, so naturally he failed the exam. Get something guaranteed
Sorry if you've already heard any of this. Remember that bootcamp (basic) is all about messing with your mind to see if you'll break under pressure. You will have to break a little to let them build you back up. Don't quit for any reason! Remember, EOMS(ears open mouth shut) They're going to yell at you, first thing to do is BREATH! People under stress stop breathing, when you stop breathing, you stop hearing and thinking. Listen very carefully to how they want you do say and do things.
@Maxid1 Don't lock your knees at attention or parade rest, bend them just slightly or you'll go down like you almost did. Going in without a rate should be avoided if at all possible. Getting placement after you're in, something you want, is very difficult after you're in the fleet. Know now that you will wish you worked out way harder than you did before you went active. Ramp up now. Thank you in advance for your service to your country, please don't embarrass US. Conduct yourself accordingly.
I've been in the Navy almost 6 years now and I just want to say you'll do well! Just be careful when you finally get to the fleet if you talk to a dude you're automatically "sleeping" with him, but if you're not talking to a dude then you're a "lesbian." So don't fall prey into the petty high school drama that is found all over the fleet. Also undesignated was the word you were looking for, its when you go in without a rate but you'll "strike" when you make it to the fleet after 18 months or so
Congratulations!!! I leave for bootcamp this next week, February 22. It has all gone super fast for me I swore in on January 11, 2012. It has all gone by so fast for me and now I'm looking at my last days as a civilian. Only 5 days till I leave!!!! Good luck with everything and I hope the experience is great!!!
@draxverdevil 1) Contact a recruiter 2)IF you qualify, you'll take the ASVAB 3) Do processing at MEPS where you will also pick your rate and sign your contract 4) Start attending DEP meetings to get prepared for bootcamp 5) Ship off to bootcamp 6) You go out to the fleet
have fun and keep a positive attitude!!! dont let the haters bring u down once u are in and just do your best. Aviation Techs are a little overmanned. they just kicked a bunch out, my buddy got booted after 11 years of service....
Good videos, keep the enthusiasm you have for the navy and you will go far, i joined set on doing my 4 years and going to college and now i plan on re-enlisting and staying in longer.
Hope you enjoy bootcamp, you'll make life long friends guranteed.
study hard in DEP so you can join as an E3, youll be a petty officer in no time.
@NeLisaJames Here is what you need to know. Bootcamp is easy, just don't let yourself get caught up in the drama. Don't let your self get brainwashed either. A school is where most mess up. Just don't drink and drive... It's also where half the gals that join the navy turn into sluts. Fleet is where you will finally regain something most of your personal freedom. After that Quals-Watch-Drill-Quals-ESWS-WATCH-PT-FOOD-DRILL-SLEEP. Will be your POD
may is a great time to go to boot. i went may 13 2008. Do not do Seaman Apprentice, I'm an IT and it's pretty legit. In boot camp they will tell you which way you will go in aviation. and enjoy pensacola FL is pretty fun, and don't get into trouble.
I'm going in aviation as well, except in the Army. I'll be arming weapons, and repairing electrical/avionic systems on Kiowa helicopters. I hear it's a really good job. I assume the same for the Navy.
When I went in January I was only offered two jobs, both of which I didn't want. One was MT, which is a sub job, and the other was LS, which is logistics. I already work in a warehouse, so LS was out of the question. I took MT, but took the PST for AIRR, and will be going to that A school after boot camp, instead of MT.
A year ago I was in the same position. Learn your 11 general Order's, Sailor's Creed, Rank and Recognition, pretty much all of it. If you score really well on the test and pass your Initial PFA at RTC, you'll get automatic advancement to E-2 if your rating or contract doesn't automatically guarantee E-2 or E-3. I'm pretty sure Nuke fetus's don't even get E-3 anymore.
Im rooting for you. I was an AE until I went Aircrew. Both AE and AT are good jobs. Both have two sides though. Intermediate and Organizational levels, or O and I. O level are the guys that go out in the cold and heat to work on the plains. I level are the guys that work inside and repair the components that the O level guys take off the plane. I level is much better in my opinion for both rates. If you have any questions, let me know.
Oh, sorry about double posting, but I had problems my first DEP meeting too after the work-out portion. Civilians aren't use to these type of work outs.
on a personal note: My eyes watered up and I almost vomited due to dehydration.
Thank you! you are an inspiration to me and help me stay motivated. It sucks that you didnt get the IT job you wanted. A bill was what kept you from being what you wanted?
Thanks for posting. I'm an IT depper, shipping 8/23. Good luck with everything. I'm sure you'll be great. :)
