  • I not only enjoy sleeping in a hammock I like that I can unhook one end and hook it to the other wall hook which keeps the whole thing in one corner. A shoelace around the middle of the hammock is also hooked on the wall hook and keeps everything off the floor and neat in the corner.

  • How do u keep warm?

  • @RaeneDay

My problem is trying to keep cool.

Google: Hammock under quilt. You'll get a ton of tutorials on how to make one.

    Hope this helps!

  • Since I saw this video I have been sleeping every night indoors on a hammock. I do not have any of the pain I used to . It's been two years now.

  • LOVE this idea and that u sleep in a hammock! My spouse and I have been discussing hammock options for our house instead of a bed. I have a severe chronic pain condition and I find hammocks the most comfy thing to sleep on :o)

  • @Way2Spirited

Glad to hear that. If I don't sleep in my hammock I get nasty lower

    back pain the next day!

I really Have to sleep in a hammock.

The trick is to find that sweet spot laying diagonally. Took me about

3 nights to get the hang of it. :)

I'm looking for the best way to set up 2 hammocks indoors oje ne t to

    the other though.

  • i want a hammock......

  • is it true pirates used to sleep in hammocks?

  • @StreetArtillery

Yes. The US Navy also used hammocks in WW2 I believe.

  • I was kinda hoping when you said get out like this you would flop over and spin a lot lol

  • @rayd888 Cool Thanks

  • @rayddd what kind of hammock do you have?

  • @ecisawsome

Slanted ceilings are no problem at all. Just play with the distance of the Tie-in Points to get a curve that feels comfortable to you.

I make my own hammocks. Check out my High Tech Hammock Video on my Youtube Channel.

  • @ecisawsome

Make your own Hammock -- see my "High Tech Hammock" video in my channel.

  • WOW awesome! I'm moving out to go travel the world next year so I will definitely need another transportable device to sleep on until then. This is an awesome option! thanks for showing how easy and good it is. Will this be a challenge with a slanted ceiling? Did you make it yourself or do you recommend a site that sells them?

  • I always sleep on my chest, but i love hammocks, what should i do? can you sleep like that in a hammock if you go diagonal like you? do you need a bridge hammock?

  • @TheBigfootdood

I don't think you can find a way to sleep on your belly comfortably. The hammock will always have a curve to it which would not be straight enough to sleep that way.

Sleeping on the side is not a problem at all and is very comfortable. I put a pillow between my knees when I sleep on my side.

  • @Rozyonnie

You have to find the Studs in the wall and screw into that.

See my video: "How to install Eye Bolts to hang your hammock indoors"

  • @Rozyonnie if its drywall just use some drywall screws or anchoring screws or whatever they are called. Idk about plaster that seems rather old but im sure theres something at your local hardware store

  • i too wear a hat when i sleep.

  • most people don't believe that you can sleep on a hammock? that's madness. then again, i like to sleep on the floor.

  • ray, thank you for sharing this.

  • @markg401

People have been hein and shein longer then beds have been around.

  • isnt it kinda bad for your back?

  • @jpjdo1212

    Nope. The other way around.

It supports your back much better than a flat mattress.

  • @rayd888 how high should i drill the holes to hang it? at about chest height, or what is the optimal height for a proper hammock experiece?

  • @oliveguss

Chest-height usually works fine, but it really depends on how far apart the two eye bolts are. The farther away, the higher they should go... On a 10 foot separation, chest height is fine.

  • this is such a great idea, im definitley gonna try this, did you make your hammock out of the queen sheet, or was that a price equivilent? if you did make it out of the sheet how? lol thats amazing!

  • How to have sex in a hammock?

  • @ginemginem rent a motel? lady on top? chain her to the wall?

  • @ginemginem

you can always have sex right under the hammock, or on the kitchen counter, or where ever you want

  • @ginemginem you just lay the girl face down and bang her as she swings back and forth :)

    quite fun acctually.

  • @ModestDanny ;D haha i can imagine how that would be quite fun..mebbe i should get a hammock afterall :P

  • @ginemginem

    Carefully ;)

  • @ginemginem

    First find a partner......

  • WOW, i want one of these!! I never knew how to actually sleep in one?!

GREAT stuff man, i can't wait to do this the Right way for once!

    Thanks Ray!!!

  • Thanks, this might seem like something everyone knows how to do - but I don't and learned something today. Beds are unnecessarily expensive, and although I have a nice bed I'm going to try this with my ENO hammock for camping.

Do you sleep in a hat? :P

  • @julesagogo

    Exactly!

Why spend so much money on a bed if you can sleep comfortable in a hammock?

You can still get a Futon from Ikea which is much cheaper than any bed. -- They're not comfortable enough to sleep in every night, but good for a change of pace and also save space.

  • My room is 6/7 ft can i fit a hammock in here? Any suggestions?:) tnx i really want more room in here so i need to get rid of my bed:P

  • @NoBlink

Yes. Remember to put it in a corner as this will give you more room to hang it on.

  • Comment removed

  • This wouldn't work for me every night because I like sleeping in the same bed as my fiance... But this would be great for naps or hot nights.

I love hammocks and hanging chairs, they are just so comfortable.

  • Great video. As you say millions of people sleep their entire lives ina hammock. As I am led to understand lying in a hammock is great for your posture and can help with backpain. It spreads the vertabrae so if you have inflamation or a trapped nerve it can provide real relief; better than surgery.

  • sleeping devices i plan on using: 1. hammok 2. just a matress on the floor 3. tatami mat 4. meditating sleep 5. bean bag 6. water bed 7. in a tent outside 8. in a tent on my roof 9. in my car 10. murphy bed
  • i am looking for a hammock that can be put away during the day. any ideas?

  • @eyore8

I made mine from 5ft X 3yd fabric I found home, made the straps from synthetic webbing and got hook bolts instead of eye bolts. Now every time I want to put it up, I just hook the webbing into the bolts ( no carabiners , no ropes, just webbing ) and since it is just a sheet with about three yards of webbing on each side I can fold it into a very small bundle and put it into my drawer.

  • i sleep on my stomach will that work for hammocks if i get a legit one?

  • @MintyPigletz

I sleep on my side or on my back, and it's very comfortable, but I don't think it would be comfortable to sleep on your stomach.

  • Damn that looks pretty comfy but as others have said it might be hard to get laid or have another person in the hammock with you.

  • 1:08 thats what she said . but really nice video man

  • Ok now serious question can you hook up in a hammock, cuz that seems kinda essential to completely replace the bed.

  • I'd say you can, but in a limited, creative way.

Or you can use it like one of those "love swings..." - which would be much better, I think.

But in reality, you don't need a bed or a hammock to do that, right.

  • Hey, thanks for this video. The family and I are thinking about trying to get a king sized hammock to sleep in at night, because we HATE- haaaaaate- downright loathe the mattress we have now. It seems to me like it'd be a lot cheaper to try a hammock for a while and if we like it, switch, and if we don't like it, get another mattress. Have you ever slept with 2-3 people in your hammock? Is it comfortable to sleep next to multiple people in the bed?

  • @BillyAteMySoul get a foam bed they are more comfortable and cheaper then normal mattress. too many people in a bed , its been proven that you sleep better alone, the micro movements of your spouse(s) partially wake , just get several small mattresses and stack them in the day to make more room.

  • How far apart should the distance between the walls be?

  • Depends on the setup.

If you're using the wall studs, one stud out from the corner and two to three studs away on the other wall.

The hammock should have a nice crescent (smile) to it. I like mine close to the ground (my butt hangs about a foot from the floor). Don't hang a hammock too tight -- it's very uncomfortable and unstable.

  • I'm not familiar with what wall studs are.

How long is your hammock and and far apart are the walls for your setup, this will be easier to understand for me as it will give me a number to work with.

  • Chris,

I don't have exact measurements because I don't use them.

I hang each end at about chest high, but I always have to adjust the distance until I get the right feel when I lay down.

Some people like to hang them straighter, some looser. I like them a bit on the loose side (see the video again).

I wish I could give you some exact measurements but even if I had some, they would most certainly not fit your setup, body or taste.

  • @DrChrisBiomed Wall studs are the 2x4 boards in your walls.

  • great demo

  • Thanks!

  • How many hours do you sleep on average?. Were you having sleep problems in a regular bed or have you always used a hammock?.

  • On workdays I sleep about 7 hours. Weekends 8 or 9.

I always get back aches when I sleep on a bed. Don't really know why. In a hammock I never get a back ache. I have bad knees, so I have to use the pillow under them.

    Thanks for the input.

  • Do you use a blanket? If yes, how?

  • I do.

If it's cold I just tuck it under me so the cold doesn't go through the hammock.

I guess you could lay it on the hammock and get in on top of it and then cover yourself...

I haven't needed to do that though.

  • @boomtao

    hilarioussss lollll

  • You may find the question funny and I am happy I made you laugh. However it is a sincere question. The climate here doesn't allow for sleeping without a blanket and blankets do slip away in a hammock, or get stuck. For this reason there are hammocks that have cocoon-like sleeves that cover the hammock from the out-side and such.

  • I am a terrible snorer, but when I sleep in my hammock I dont make a sound. I wonder if there has been research into this?

  • I haven't found anything but maybe you sleep in a more upright position in the hammock?

I know it helps heartburn too.

    Thanks for the comment,

    Thomdrum.

  • lmao

  • I only use my hammock for camping but I have to admit I sleep better in it than in my bed at home. Cold, rain, doesn't matter. Hammocks rock!

  • I agree.

No one should be without a hammock.

  • Really liked the demonstration 5/5

  • Thanks!

  • what happens when you have a wife or a girlfriend and you want to sleep together? lol thats what i thought. (and no dont say make another hammock beause that is not what im talking about)

  • i have been sleeping in my hammock for two days now and both times i have woken up with a sore neck i am using two pillows behind my head is that too many?

  • I think that's too high and would push your head down (push your chin into your chest).

I use a very flat / thin pillow for sleeping in a hammock.

The hammock's natural curve already lifts your head up a bit so a thick pillow would be too much.

Also, make sure you're laying diagonally in the hammock.

It took me about 3 days to find that "sweet spot."

    Hope this helps.

  • yea i had three the first night two last night i shall try only one tonight... it is way better then a bed though ... so much extra floor space

  • Good. Try a thin pillow -- I also use a cushion under my knees. This helps too.

  • Actually, hammocks are good for your back.

The water beds were too soft so your body would dip into them with no support to your back at all.

If you lay diagonally in the hammock, and find that sweet spot, it will support your back in all the right places.

I had back problems until I started sleeping in a hammock.

About sex... I have a bed for that ,but if you look at those "sex swings" they sell you will look at the hammock in a brand new light. ;)

Don't ask how I know this...

  • would you recommended this to people w/ back problems ive heard water beds make it worse the back i mean and sex would be impossible as u say its only one person maybe this over a normal bed for that ;-) but mainly back problems yes or no?

  • Well Im only like 140 pounds.... I think around 63 KG, so Im not too worried, Im just surprised you dont use some thicker fabric! It would suck to wake up by falling on the floor :) I fell out of a bunk bed once, and dont want any repeats of that lol

  • I weigh 155 lbs so you should be safe.

I wouldn't guarantee it would hold 2 people though.

  • Will a normal sheet really hold me up? I thought it would rip for sure ;)

  • I've been using regular old bed sheets for years with no problem. If you use 100% cotton sheets, they may not be string enough.

In a stitched pocket hammock, you should still use a Girth Hitch (see my knot videos) in the pocket. -- If you just loop a rope rope through the pocket, it will abrade the fabric for sure making it rip in the long run.

You don't say how much you weigh, but if you're worried about strength, you can pick up some cheap Ripstop Nylon or soft Polyester at Walmart.

  • can a hammock be used insted of a bed, longterm?

  • Yes. Me and millions of others sleep in hammocks as a primary "bed."

It's a common practice in Latin and some Asian countries.

Once you get the hang of it, it's great.

  • nice i shall be joining u and the millions :)

  • but what if i sleep on my stomach? i dont think my body will bend that way haha

  • so how do you have "guests" sleep over with you? lol

  • LOL

  • i love my hammock :D

  • yeah right on man! economic for sure, and i hear its good for the body, weight distribution. i just moved and already decided to try one out instead of a regular bed. if i owned instead of rented, i'd drill into my walls, but getting a stand will be cheaper than a bed frame regardless.

    glad you like it, peace.

  • I used to have back problems until I started sleeping in my hammock.

You just have to "get the hang of" finding your sweet spot in it.

    I recommend it to anyone.

    :)

  • drill into the walls/studs... rent or own... just fill holes with spackle and paint over if/when you leave

  • much respect. thanks for the how-to. i digg the simplicity of a hammock. i am ethnically from Southeast Asia but was born in America and I would love travel back and find nice spots to hang a hammock and sleep instead of getting hotels. your video was very helpful. thanks!

  • hmmm... ill try that
