  • I think that is played with Kinman pickups-

  • The Alesis Q20 sounds great on Hank's guitar. Maybe better than the old Meazzi. Charlie really nailed it with those EFTP patches.

  • Szép tiszta zenei hangzás

  • Классно! Музыка вдвое старше меня, но, создана для тех, кто навсегда застрял в юности - Тебе 20 лет, ты полон жизни и эмоций... Ты полон радости!

  • Just nice... old and nice.... that's all....

  • Beautifull

    Thank You

  • I would pay $1 million for that red fender! Simply no comparison! Exactly as in 1962!

  • I have no words, Beutifull!

  • I'm 60 and I always loved the Shadows best of all the groups around at the time - apart from the Monkees (but I WAS a teenager at the time so I can be excused I think!). I was very sad when I heard that Jet Harris had died. He was my favourite of the group. RIP Jet.

  • Apache was my first song ever heard...I'll never forget the Shadows...

    R.I.P. Jet!! Thanks for all.....

  • Thanks, Jet, for some of the world's best music. RIP

  • This song is so beautiful. R..I.P Jet Harris

  • RIP Jet.

  • God I love this song.

  • @TheVenusLibran-It seems to me that this clip has become as much about Eamon as the music,so here goes-The Shadows contribution to British music is probably the most unacknowledged ever.Their music is timeless and will be enjoyed by many future generations.

Eamon Holmes on the other hand,IS a fat salad dodging twat, with no sense of humour,as recent libels show.

When The Shadows can write and perform a masterpiece like this, the least a tv presenter can do is get the name of the song right.

  • Je to najlepšia skupina všetkých čias.

  • Was that playback..?

  • A great sound at a time when the U.K was a wonderful land. No comparison with the U.K as it is today. Shameless, says it all.

  • Maybe it does seem like a few have gone missing in the group but vital members of The Shadows are still left standing after all these years! Good to see it and 'Wonderful Land' is still a wonderful sound. Long may they last with their unique sound. Brings a lot of us back to transistor radios and 45s. I still have their wax singles in my loft. Now we have them on YouTube - a click away. Brilliant.

  • How rude can people be? Shouldn't you be commenting here on the music? All you want to do is have a go at Eamonn? You try getting up as early as he does daily and present live television? These so-called 'highest rated comments' say more about what YouTube condones in -isms and who thumbs them up than it does about content. 'Thick shit' and 'fat dimwitted twat' with his mind on 'pies'. Is this about The Shadows? I have worked with Eamonn and he is someone you can't ever be - a gentleman.

  • @TheVenusLibran

    Dry your eyes dearie!

  • @TheVenusLibran Dry your eyes dearie!

  • Wonder what happened to the bass man and keyboards, must have popped out for a piss and was late back.

  • Great song, but oddly enough it seems like everyone except Hank is doing playback. No bass player, you can't hear any acousic guitar-strumming(and no mic or cable into the guitar) and the drummer is hitting the cymbal several times, yet you can't hear it? Still it's a great song and a great band!

  • Brilliant tune, always one of my favourites, now use it as the family ringtone on my phone.

  • Probably already been said, but a pity they're miming.

  • Wonderful land!! Well, if it is about UK, it WAS before the F......M.......entered it.....

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • No wonder they took his quiz show off him! LOL

  • I have been searching for this track for 19 years and tonight I have found it!!

My dad used to play this in the car loads and it stuck with me ever since on some level but not vividly enough for me even to hum it - hence I was never able it identify it and it's just been an annoying thing I had accepted I would have to let slip.

My father died when I was 6 and I'm now 25. Goosebumps...

never left a comment before, never really saw the point - but I felt I needed to share this.

  • i used to listern to radio caroline then on to radio luxemburg befor radio 1 came along won derful memories

  • Where are the violins then? And I thought there were 4 shadows.

  • Probably my favourite Shadows track, I remember lying under the bed sheets trying to get a signal for Radio Luxembourg, on my transistor radio, so I could hear it. Anyone else remember Sunday night and you had to be up for school in the morning!

Sounds as good today as it did then.

  • This music will live forever! It is classical. Hank ,Brian and Bruce have changed so little.

  • And I stil play the original 45 a couple of times a week!

  • This song was number one on my birthday... according to the Facebook app! Cool!

  • Comment removed

  • my dad can play all the shadows songs and im trying to follow in his foot steps and learn this

  • Ya can't beat this .. it's beautiful

  • If we look close... the dance ....sweet, how cold after too much time, still the same Wonderful.. they look like priest... very nice... and the Bill Gates cover...lol

  • These guys are great and they actually enjoy what there doing

  • AAAwww this is a real oldie but goldie....

  • This is not live in the studio. This is the actual original single hit being mimed to in spite of the wires! It's still the most evocative and brilliant of the Shads singles and it sends me back to the best decade that popular music has known.

  • @aeroplod It was number 1 for 8 weeks !!!

  • I live in America and i think that some one needs to send this band to us her in the United States... In Detroit we would love you or New York Please get these guys to perforn here please !!

  • @MsPokeyman I've had a few strong words with Americans on Utube who INSIST that the Ventures are better, I have tried and tried to like The Ventures but they seem so amateurish to me after wathching Thw Shadows

  • He got the name of the song wrong

  • what a twit eamonn holmes is, he didnt even bother to learn the name of the tune.

  • The point I was making is that they are playing live in the studio.

  • I like the shadows, but i don't appreciate this pantomime.

  • wonderland !! lol.. and what's funnier is that you cant even call it miming !! the keyboardist must be wearing his invisible suit..

  • This was no 1 on the day I was born in the UK - is it a wonderful Land?

  • Hank Marvin - probably the worlds greatest pop guitarist. Certainly the most copied!

  • Hank ....jesteś wspaniały

  • I grew up listening to The Shadows. My mum and dad loved them. I still listen to them today. Awesome vid, thanks heaps for sharing. cheers from NZ :)

  • who's play the bass? or is playback?

  • insuperabili allora e anche oggi

  • @darioxid Proprio così caro amico mio un sound che non ha nessuno,Fantastici !!!

  • arrrgggggh...love this song

  • I'm one huge MetallicA fan but this band have a place in the 10 favourite band ever :D. Any of you like metal?!!

  • NOT the album version. They are live here. Hank does not need to mime.

  • @CottferLAD22

This is from the 1989 album ''The Shads at their very best'' containing rerecorded material.

  • Hank's echo sounds different on this one, very unlike the one he uses now

  • mooi hoor

  • Nice! I like the sound of the guitar. Haven't heard this type of music any where, except on my dad's cds.

  • this song is on my relaxation cd and i love it !

  • paradise smile ;)

  • I think this is a great tune when I was at school we were mad on the Shadows. I think its a bit rude of them not to reconise a bass player in the line up, like when they started, Hank Marvin is the Shadows Bruce Welch gets his money for old rope.

  • "I can hear a bass guitar with no bass player on stage..."

Hey, ysuran....that's the magic of Hank and the boys!

  • I remember playing this and the song Taco Wagon at a show in high school when I was 16 years old, on lead guitar, with my band called Los Banditos. we got kicked out of a Wendy's after the show and had to sleep in the van because we were too drunk to drive home.

  • Its chill to have this song in the background while you working

  • Yes. He should have introduced' Wonderful Land'. But this is not the original version.

  • I loved the Shadows when I was 16. I still love them and I am 58. They were and possibly still among the best Instrumental group ever. I bought the DVD (their last live performance) and it was wonderful. Thanks for uploading.

  • Fantastic sound, top harmonized.

This is the right music for clever brains!

  • did he introduce it as "wonderland" by accident?

  • @darthmoo7 I hope it was an accident...but he is a bit of an idiot - never liked the man!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could listen to this tune over and again without getting bored at all:-)

  • just like me... :DD Love them as my grandparents did as well. They have all albums from the 50ish :D

  • They are just wonderful -- no one compares!!!!!!!! :-)

  • It's like British surf guitar music.

  • This song is just amazing.

  • Hate to be a pooper. Hank and Bruce are BRILLIANT, and I own about 10 Shadows Albums, and this sounds exactly the same as the CD versions, which means they are not playing this live.

  • I saw the live on stage and they are able to sound exactly on stage as they do on any recording, that`s what makes them one of the best out there.Forever.thank you.

  • i also hear bass without seeing it

  • They are excellent, but you're right, this is the album version. I know they are ridiculously good at reproducing their sound, but if I'm not mistaken, I can hear a bass guitar with no bass player on stage. Explain that :P

The Shadows are still fantastic regardless.

  • i love how hank marven always has a huge grin on his face

  • great tune and Mike Oldfields cover is damn good too

  • Nagyon szép zene megunhatatlan

    Misi from hungary

  • eamon holmes ..thick shit..its WONDERFUL LAND...not WONDER LAND

  • I love the shadows and have for as long as i can remember, i am only 23 and what makes me sad is when i have kids i wont be able to introduce them 2 great bands like my father did, because pop music is making a joke of the word music right now,Real music like Hank and the boys just isn't around anymore!!

  • @TheWarpig1 it is the same with me :( i am 21 and my dad showed me these when i was little, its just pure genius!!!!!

  • Did that bloke say wonder land? LOL!

  • wonderland =/

  • Good stuff

  • Check out KOTO´s remix of this one!

  • I really enjoy Hank Marvin, but a little bummed to see him playing a 22 fret 9.5 radius neck Strat.

  • 1:15 to 2:23 is just fantastic!. Thank you for sharing this!.

  • so that's where ZZ Top got the syncro footwork?!

  • The shadows were and are an inspiration for a lot of musicians but both the Shads and ZZ Top have thier own unique styles.

  • Yeah, I know - just joking. wowjef

  • Coming to Australia in Feb 2010. Can't wait to see but will have to unfortunately sit through Cliff Richards to be able to see Hank play. He is the master of the Strat

  • Don't worry we saw them at Manchester last week and the Shadows get a major part in the show. Took me back to the 60's :-)

  • Hank Marvin always comes across as a really nice guy and a great guitarist....what's Holmes on about there? funny thing is he would have had autocue as well...we all human though

  • Comment removed

  • Nothing like the sound of The Shadows...can´t wait to watch them alive with Cliff next Sep, Oct and November.

    Thanks so much.

  • Eamonn Holmes, fat dimwitted twat. "Wonderland"??? He obviously had his mind on the ten pies waiting for him during the commercial break.

  • Cameraman is a jackass. Focused only on one guy. Couldn't see the drummer at all.

  • It's not the cameraman, it's the producer. Stupid, useless graduates who know nothing about everything apart from where the gay bars are.

  • Eamon fat fenian cunt is a thick wanker. Wonderland ? What a cunt. Fucking man united CUNT

  • Shadows will always remind me of my parents, uncles and aunts and off course Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa - awesome!!!!

  • The host says wonderland...not Wonderful Land....what a dumbass idiot shit.....beautiful song by the way.

  • Didn't know Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards can play guitar

  • Saw Hank at a Guitar exhibition in Birmingham (UK) and he stood and signed posters for over an hour and never lost his smile as he chatted to everyone. Great guitarist, great guy!

  • Wonderland?? Mkay..

Hank Marvin always smiles. Great guitarist.

  • this is music , they are genius, real musicians

  • this is soo fun to play on guitar (:

  • hank the man

  • They don`t make music like this any more. Sixties music, and classical - only music worth listening to.

  • Agreed. After the 70's nothing wort listening to came out. But 60's music...man I wish I lived in tha era.

  • buckethead

  • @englishrose47

these are the kind of toughts that leads to fascism.

  • @Axidente Well that may be your opinion, but at least 16 people agree with me.

  • @englishrose47 ohh and this makes you so proud LOL

  • @Axidente If you`re Italian you should be proud of your country`s classical music heritage - your baroque and opera are second to none. And we in England are proud of our iconic Sixties music.

  • @englishrose47 i'm not saying that classical or sixties music are bad, i'm trying to saying that comments like "ONLY THIS MUSIC IS WORTH LISTENING TO" are ridicolous, and DANGEROUS.

  • @Axidente For goodness sake CALM DOWN. I only expressed my opinion, if other people don`t share it, they are entitled to theirs. How on earth is it DANGEROUS? And yes, I`m proud of the English contribution to rock and pop music. And I love your Italian classical music. I can`t understand what you`re ranting about.

  • @englishrose47

talking with you is a waste of time.

  • @Axidente Ditto

  • @Axidente How is it dangerous for someone to say only certain particular types of music are worth listening to. That is massive hyperbole. It's not dangerous, but you are dramatic.

  • @englishrose47 what about the 70's !!! In the 70's music was much more complex, there were a lot of excellent progressive rock bands like genesis, yes, pink floyd, gentle giant, van der graaf generator... !!!

  • I just love how Hank is always so happy while playing the Guitar. Infectious smile!

  • Yeah, makes you want to smile just watching him.

  • Hank jest wspaniały

Najbardziej mi się podoba Wanderful land

  • Did the idiot host say Wonderland? Where does he think he is? Besides Alice or what?

  • i

IKts a pity that the title was wrong ,,Wondrla nd Lan

  • what nuggit its wonder ful land not wonderland lol

  • What a timeless great number!

I guess socalled"guitarplayers"from nowadays should listen to Hank playing this number and get some inspiration to make this kind of music instead of their usual crap!! (Witch is mostly happyly forgotten within a year...)

  • Up till now, I did not even know that it was Mike Oldfield who covered this song..... This is great!

  • hank dont give a FUCK!

  • Wonderful Land together with the Apache were top on the Hong Kong pop chart for over 3 years in the early 1960's.I was only a small kid then !

  • it must be right what they say about the irish,... wonderland?

  • hank est un genie

  • What an insult? "Wonderland"?

Wonderful Land, you prick! ( and I'm Irish)

  • im only 13 but my mum and dad have like this on loads of cds and i think its immense

  • First record I ever bought, didn't even have a record player. FANTASTIC!!!

  • OKE HANK!

  • the greatest instrumental band ever.

HANK MARVINS sound has never been bettered. just genius.

  • sweet song. yesssss i like very much

  • Hank still looks the same as he did all those years ago ! Great !

  • Hold your head in shame Holmes.. its wonderful land you stupid plonker not wonderland .. i bet he wanted to crawl away on that day - Thanks for posting!

  • Just Awesome... Love this!

  • Thanks for posting this - I missed it at the time. But what an idiot, Holmes getting the title wrong!

  • Did I hear that woman suggest that the Shadows have only been together since 1990? This band that was huge in the 60's and 70's? :p

  • Hank's sound always so expressive...titles of the songs so well match the sound he produces..lovely stuff.

  • where's this kind of music now? they're still awesome to listen to!!

  • Yes, Mr Holmes is a total ass getting the name of the tune wrong...

  • A lot of modern guitarists knock The Shadows, saying it's corny and simple music. It's actually harder to play than it looks - to get the tone and feel right..

If it wasn't for these guys, guitar instrumentals would never have become so popular..

    Respect!

  • "The Shadows"a top Group Hank Marvin & the Red Fender Stratocaster what a Guy! Eammonn Holmes what a total wanker its called Wonderful Land!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's a thick Mick. What do you expect!!

  • Eamonn Holmes - what a tosser.

Calling it Wonderland as well. pratt.

  • how come theres no black is black by the shadows on youtube thats so stupid

  • the presenter called it wonderland? what the hell lol

  • Good old group !

  • soothing, calming. put down the cigarette, the coffee, the drugs, the remote control-- this and a hug from someone you love is all you need.

  • makes me wanna end it all!!!!!!!

  • Shads - superb! Eamonn thingy - what a wanker!

  • Piotr Szczepanik + The Shadows.

  • who says white guys can't dance

  • Yeah i would not say dance but it is really difficult to stand and only sit to this kind of music.

I think Shadows and spotnicks owned the whole 60-70s era they were a huge part of it!

Sensation and creativity at it finest!

  • Brilliant eternal melody!!!

  • wonderful land,wonderful music

  • Very clever tune is this and will always be one on its own and an all time great !

  • OOOOOO... Vox AC-30s.. get you!

  • Beautiful, one of the best ever...many thanks!
