  • I like this video. I never beat the game as a kid.

  • were can i get this game?

  • I inherited this game from my step-aunt back in the day, and me and her used to play this game pretty frequently. My whole family was just so into horror flicks back in those days, especially Friady the 13th. (Lol, we used to scare my little sister to absolute death cuz of these movies XD).

But yeah, this game was a travesty. I didn't know you could trade spaces with the counselors, so 80% of the time when the countdown would start, I was too far and simply fucked. I HATED THIS GAME!!

  • Jason wiped out the kids! Muahahahhah

  • 7:37, Jason wields a tooth brush lol

  • Great review! Thanks!

  • You might have said the answer to

This before but why do you still play the atari and not a xbox 360 or ps3?

  • @elitepwner55 I do play PS3.

  • @AqualungGameReviews WHATS UR USERNAME mines mm841266

  • @elitepwner55 mine is AqualungReviews

  • @elitepwner55 Well, maybe because he's a retrogamer? I mean, I'm a retrogamer and I don't have any new consoles, except the wii, but that's not "hip and cool" anymore, according to my friends.

  • @MindOfCreativity lol k he has a ps3

  • @MindOfCreativity: Your friends sound like hipsters, LOL.

  • @Loader2K1 They ARE! :P

  • @MindOfCreativity: LOL! And I was only being half-serious when I said that.

  • What is the name of the 5th game in the intro? With dat cat

  • @sittysutty Rockin' Cats

  • A shortcut to beating this game is to find a lighter and go into a cabin that has a note saying, "Go into the woods."

Now, find a knife and some medicine. Go into one of the cabin's inside the woods, exit it and go back inside again. You will find another note saying, "Fire will hurt Jason the most."

Finally, go into a small cabin outside the woods and you will find the torch. It's possible to win the game in under 5 minutes by mastering this method.

  • All of the same shit is just a bunch of all of the same shit!!!

  • Who is the song at the beginning by?

  • Friday the 13th movie series was so violent that here in Finland it got banned immediately. It wasn't until 2000 when censoring rules got changed, and the movies were finally released for DVD. Same thing happened with Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. Now I got off track. Great review!

  • I hated this game too. The horrible navigation and worthless rocks made it much more difficult than it needed to be.

  • I think the zombies are Jason's mother. They're at least feminine.

  • 13:28 I like how you say awful. Your acsent is the other reason I watch your reviews.

  • Although I don't necessarily think it deserves an "F", I do agree that it isn't that stellar. Not by a long shot. I do however completely respect (and for the most part agree with) your opinion, and greatly enjoyed the review! Keep them up! Also, I've always been quite fond of the theme that plays in the cabins. I find it haunting and suspenseful, at least by NES standards.

  • Enteractive Video Games

    Power Play Series

    Love that front-box art!

  • Until now, I wasn't aware of the "attributes" dimension to the counselors. At the time I was playing this, it seemed as if there were two governing attributes: 1. "faster/more agile than George" and 2. "George".

... and you were always eventually down to George.

  • @ChalkboardFatass: Before seeing this this video, I simply thought that the only noticeable differences between the counselors besides their palettes was that there were three that were slow as shit and three that were moderately fast.

  • This game was scary as fuk when i was 8 lol

  • @nujerzey23: Same here, LOL. I would get scared on how Jason would appear randomly.

  • 2 words that will make you beat this game fast..game genie

  • awesome review. keep more nes reviews comming.

  • My God! I congratulate you Aqualung for doing a walkthrough of this horrible game! Sadly I had to cheat to beat this game using Game Genie but I guess this is one of the reason why they made it.

  • i played this when i was younger, the best thing to do with the rocks is duck as you throw them. the arc is lower then.

  • I've seen AVGN's take on this and I've seen LordKat's take on it...yours is the best.

  • I always love how aqualung explains how to play these games. Most of them I played as a kid (via video store rental) and I never really knew what to do (and I was young). Never the less, great job and keep em' coming...

  • Man my best friend when I was a kid got a used NES for christmas with only 3 games, Ice Hockey, Excite Bike, and this steaming hunk of shit. It was the most anti-climactic christmas gift ever, he finally gets an NES and only has shitty games to play on it LOL

I lent him my Mega Man 2 and Ninja Gaiden until he could save up for some better games, because as much fun as it was ragging on him for playing Friday the 13th, I couldn't leave a brother hanging like that... :)

  • @Effedup Ice hockey and Excite bike are awesome! :)

  • @raymfa They were fun in short bursts but they weren't exactly hours of entertainment LOL

Ninja Gaiden, on the other hand, if you actually ever beat that game, you felt like you just conquered the world. I put more hours into that game than I care to remember...it wasn't until the Game Genie came around that I actually finished it.

  • @Effedup That's true, many NES controllers met their doom because of Ninja Gaiden! :) Never finished it myself, ahh the memories.... :-)

  • Am I the only one that thinks that Jason looks like an overweight homeless man at 13:16?

  • The music in the cabin is an eerie tune, the best one in the game

  • Good Movie + LJN = Crappy Game

  • lol when I first played this game I thought the axe was a red toothbrush.

  • Though this game is horribly flawed, it actually is creepy by NES standards, especially in the cabins at night.

  • The fighting with Jason inside the cabins seems like...a poor man's version of Punch Out, to me. Nice going, Friday The 13th. @_@

About the only thing I can say I have any liking for in this game...would have to be the cabin music, of all things. It has a similar feel to the music of DejaVu (NES), in my opinion, which I rather like.

But that aside, yeah, this seems about typical for an LJN-labeled game.

  • I kinda get the concept of what they tried to do with this game but it seems Waaaaay too rushed to actually be good, I like some of the ideas that they tried to go with and I like the In-side the cabin music but everything else just seems to be fall apart If only they had some more time.

    Great Review Aqualung.

  • Am I the only one who doesn't think this game is a complete failure? The gameplay might leave something to be desired, but the atmosphere was actually pretty cool. It was almost like a proto-survival-horror game.

  • @barny15: The idea was good, but the execution was terrible. In my humble opinion, though, with today's video game consoles, a Friday the 13th game could be good if handled properly. By the way, there was a survival horror game on the NES by Capcom, but it was only released in Japan. It was called Sweet Home, and the ROM has been translated into English if you're interested in trying it out.

  • I hate LJN.

  • And my initials are LJM... How similar is that!

  • I love his intro!

  • I like how the black guy is good and running and jumping but he's slow as shit when it comes to water. lol

  • @AqualungGameReviews I think this franchise lends itself more to "Heavy Rain" style gameplay. What do you think?

  • LJN games suck period.

  • I remember this being THE most frustrating game of my childhood: all Jason had to do was hit you once

  • Doesnt any body know u can duck an shoot the rocks at the same time so u never miss

  • @retroNES2600

That shouldn't even be necessary to do in the first place. Why should they make the projectile arc to begin with? That's so inconvenient. We shouldn't HAVE to duck to make it a viable weapon.

And besides, there's at least one point in the video where he DOES duck and fire a rock.

  • haha! this is one of the few games that you give an F

  • Oh my God, the first person I see that actually gets the map screen!

I always thought AVGN shouldn't have criticized the map as much because it DOES make sense!

Left goes Clockwise and Right goes Counter-Clockwise. Not much to get.

  • i love the music in the cabins

  • This game needs to be redone with the player switching between stalking counselors as Jason and being a counselor. This is the kind of game I dream about.

  • So what happens if a counsellor dies? I don't think you ever said, is it game over or can you keep going with the remaining counsellors?

  • @GigaBoost: The game is over when all of counselors are dead or if Jason kills all of the kids. Unfortunately, there are no countinues.

  • As for the game I admire the implementation of strategical thinking being able to pass items to a campncouncelor as well as being able to switch to another councelor to confront Jason. Execution makes the game something to be left deaired nonetheless.

  • Think you could do Goonies II next? That games's cool but I have no clue where to go anymore =(

  • I like this game.

  • i think this game is actually pretty good lol

  • Comment removed

  • The best item Jasons mom gives you is the SWEATER!!!!!!

  • This game sucks unless your a hardcore NES person who watches strategies on YouTube, in which case it CAN be a very very fun game for non-TA speedrunning!

  • That sound gets annoying beep beep every couple of seconds doesn't it lol?

  • I love this game. Its so fun and a nice change from my normal 8-bit fare. I can never get past the 2nd day though-kayboards are bad controls agiants turbo jason. Also, have you ever played the C64 version of a nightmare on elm street? Its better than the NES version.

  • I don't like this NES game. But also the C64 version about Friday The 13th from Domark isn't a good game. Both games aren't good.

  • wait did you say the game was made by the 8TH FILM!!!?!?!?!?

  • it appears that you and AVGN are in complete agreement about this game lol

  • awsome timing on uploading friday the 13th good work man

  • I can't believe I didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th yesterday! >_<

  • this is acutally kind of ironic that this game is friday the 13th and the day was friday the 13th i think this is just a coincidence

  • LJN made few ok games, unfortunately, that`s not the case here

  • @metalcoola specifically nightmare on elm street cause it was licensed by ljn and was made by RARE

  • Everything is the same shit! AND IT'S ALL SHIT!!! Hahaha! Great review and video! I hope that you come out with more great videos as I really enjoy watching them and listening to your priceless commentary. Kudos!

  • What's that bit of glitchy graphics at 2:04?

  • @fecman94 Just glitchy graphics lol

  • @AqualungGameReviews how r u so good at these games? do u have to practice for a long time plz explain how u do it thx

  • my 18th birthday was on friday the 13, yesterday :D

  • "Friday the 13th"... I saw what you did there... :)

  • Nice one. Must have been difficult having to play through this crapfest multiple times just to make the video. My hats off to you! =D

  • Wow, an F. That's pretty harsh. I don't know if it's the worst game ever, but this game was incredibly frustrating when I was a kid.

  • I know this is unrelated to the game, but there is still no uncut versions of most of the friday 13th movies, the rights to them were owned by a company, for some time, pararmount when they owned the rights, would not bring uncut versions out, but there is no reason why this has not happened with the current owners of the movies.

  • excellent edition

  • same shit same shit same shit same shit all of it is the SAME SHIT - yup that about wraps up this game

  • Fun fact: Jay Z used this soundtrack for Run This Town

  • Great review! I can't believe you had the balls to review/walkthrough an LJN game.

  • @JanettySupportTour He did Jaws, Back to the Future, and Nightmare on Elm Street before.

  • It was the perfect Friday the 13th game.. too bad it's called Splatterhouse.

  • "The music is the same shit, the battles with Jason are the same shit, the combat is the same shit, the cabins are the same shit, outside is the same shit, everything is the same shit, AND ITS ALL SHIT."

This is why I love your reviews. So funny and honest. Love it.

  • Cooo my nigga!

  • God damn thank you for this best game ever!!!

  • I love the Friday the 13th movies but this game is shit. Great review and walkthrough Aqualung! 5/5

  • Great review well done, although I think an F was a little to harsh maybe a D-.

  • nice stuff man. review mario 3!

  • Note to everybody: This game was NOT made by LJN. They were merely the publisher. The actual developer was Pack-In-Video, a Japanese video game company whom also made the video game adaptations of Predator and Knight Rider on NES. But, yeah, I totally agree with this review/walkthrough. Nice video, Aqualung. If it wasn't for the Game Genie, I would have never seen the end of this game. By the way, the best way to hit the zombies with the rocks is to duck and hit them.

  • Jason fights the characters in the cabin Mike Tyson Punch out style XD

  • This game actually had some interesting game play elements, but the execution was pretty lousy. I wonder if anyone would be interested in remaking it and keeping most of the game play elements in-tact, albeit balancing them differently.

  • Thanks for fulfilling my request, Ken.

  • Great video as always Aqua.

  • You're the only person I've ever seen who was GOOD at this game

  • since when can white men jump

  • Lol. Friday the 13th, and you uploaded the video on Friday the 13th. Was that intentional?

  • Also I just noticed this, but is that "dungeon" music stolen straight from The Legend of Zelda? I noticed they did this in the Goonies game too...took the dungeon music straight from The Legend of Zelda...

  • i remember playing this with my cousin when i was 6 or something. we'd just wander around aimlessly, didn't know there were 2 game over screens till now actually.

  • Sweet, another Review/Walkthrough.

  • Hahah, I see what you did there Ken. Good job! Yeah, this game sucks. Then again, anything by Let's Just Not/Lord Jesus No (LJN) will likely lead to disappointment.

  • You actually made the game seem quite fun. The execution might have been bad but this game is sound conceptwise I think.

  • Anyone else notice he waited till Friday the 13th to post this?

  • @TheShorty312 Umm duhh?

  • Todays friday the 13th and he's play friday the 13th

  • The game could have had potential... if it werent made by LJN.

  • Am I cool for knowing about this game and even playing it before the AVGN did?

  • @kingbooforums I'm sure you are cool for better reasons than that.

  • IN DEPTH! I've never seen that deep into the game, and i've given it a few tries!

  • Comment removed

  • well it was made by LJN..........seriously i can't think of anything good they ever did........LJN sucked arse and sadly almost every movie game was given to them to screw up

  • @hiro928 well there maximum carnage on snes that was pretty good

  • @Indigodelta383

and the WWF games on the SNES were good too! At least I thought so

  • @Amisbro I agree that the WWF games were good, the first one could have used more moves and signature finishers (the Genesis had them) and Raw can be a little difficult at times but is the most fleshed out version. I like Royal Rumble a lot, even more than the arcade games now that I can compare them. As a kid I always wished they released Wrestlefest or Superstars instead...still love them but it's funny how things change.

  • @AceEbb77

I forgot about the Wrestlemania game for the Super Nintendo/Genesis. That wasn't a bad game either but the SNES could have used the signature moves for sure!

I used to play the Wrestlefest/Superstars games a lot and they were were a ton of fun but I was also a fan of the "Wrestlewar" game SEGA put out too. Its a shame that never got a console release outside of the Dreamcast smash pack

  • In his Q & A video, Aqualung recommended emuasylum for emulators, is that still a good/safe site to visit?

  • I REALLY want to see him do "Dr, Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"! If he thinks this game is bad then just wait till he does that game!

  • Great review Ken.:) I agree, this game is ass!

  • BTW I like this game, it is repetitive as hell but for an LJN game its damn good, I guess you could say for a non LJN company that makes it mediocre though, LOL.

  • I am surprised the rating wasnt 'shit'.

  • there is no walkthrough for this game, if you survive the first level you will eventually die on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

  • I guess you were planning to make this on the same day that had the same name of the game. Right Aqualung?

  • Just a side note: the original Friday the 13th was filmed in Blairstown, NJ. Now, I know it may not seem relevent to the reivew/walkthrough of this licensed game that LJN made, but for trivia sakes for the original movie, I thought it would be neat just to add that little known fact.

  • good review but when you have the rocks at the beginning, you can undo the issue with the rocks skipping over the zombies heads by ducking. PROTIP!

  • YOu should of said spoilers at the beg.

  • Sweet!

  • You are the best!

  • first

  • lol today is friday the 13th

  • @spliter171 I don't think it was a coincidence that he did this game today. lol
