Jimi sings better but SRV plays better imho. But they are right next to eachother in talent, it's just that SRV just makes it sound better and controlled. He just seems to harness it, hard to explain. The guys are the best, put Jimi in 1989 and Stevie in 1969 and they'd both probably be just as big as eachother. They could play, and boy could they dress lol. Guitar gods.
Ha, no, But could you imagine how good he would have sounded on a gibson les paul? You know his notes were all there, so much better than hendrix, and i mean my god if Hendrix had played a les paul? That would have been fire.
I prefer Les Pauls too but this is hilarious. I'm sure Hendrix and Stevie Ray both played Les Pauls before settling on their Stratocasters. Strats have more sounds (5 vs. 3) and a whammy bar -- that's why they chose them. Your premise -- that they would have sounded better playing a Les Paul -- is ridiculous. Different, but not necessarily better.
@1888guitars Love me a Les Paul but Strats are more versatile when it comes to sound. Check out Steve Miller jamming at Iridium with Les Paul, playing a Strat.
Jimi sings it a little better, but i cant really say one guitar.... If jimi n stevie wouldnt have died, n they played this together... That would be gods concert
@gee8908 Hahaha good comparison... I could go for steak or burgers (Or listen to Jimi's version or Stevie's) ANY time of the day. Fuck I cook burgers for breakfast some days before work.. heart attack central
When im hovering in a Black Hawk over some fuck butt country in the next war with my boots hanging over the side this is what ill be listenin to. man this song is soooo bad ass Thank you Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix
@needfulth1ngs I'm not a fan of that anymore. I stopped watching WWE when I was about 14. These days I listen to music, and I actaully no what to say and what not to say. So you just shut up and enjoy the music. And if somebody likes something that you don't. Boo hoo.
I almost failed a gr 11 chemistry exam because of this song. Spent 8 minutes rockin' out on my ipod instead of answering the questions. It was worth every second
@needfulth1ngs What makes me an idiot? Just because I said "it's a song, not the holy grail"? Tell me what makes me an idiot. Do you know me personally? The only thing you know about me is my Youtube username.
Great sound quality. Saw SRV back in '88. 5th row, promply went to the first. One of the best concerts i ever had the honor of attending. Really cool dude and what a performer. He really rocked the house. Rest in peace brother. Catch you in the next World. Save a spot for me.
the problem with stevie ray vuagn is that he plays too clean. he's got no attitude in his guitar. he copies everyone of jimmie's notes perfectectly, but u can hear there is no soul. he needs to be sloppy and just play the song.
@MLP270SS He is dead. He cannot improve get worse or anything else so why suggest an improvement. Watch a live performance then tell me he has no soul. He was as good if not better than JH. Saw them both. Jh did it first but that doesn't mean he was the best. lots of times JH couldn't get the feedback under control so he winged it,recovery does't make him better.
Disagree: out-of-control feedback was part of Jimi's excitement. I really dig Texas blues and Stevie, but I have to say this sounds kind of smooth ... Hendrix-lite.
@benivere i dont realy care that he copies hendrix. i actually heard hendrix's version after stevies and i liked hendrix's a lot better. u cant even compare the 2. when u watch black hawk down, right away your like, o man! why did they use the crappy one. people tell me to watch the live performances and i do. because i wanna be blown away. and i never am. he gets way to much credit from his fans and thats the only people he gets credit from

im surprised theres no video where someone combines Hendrix's version and SRV's version. i dont mean at the same time but one playing after the other. probably would be hard to do tho
If yall have a problem with this song then youre mentally fucked up, all yall jackasses think that black hawk down made this song good. Well it didn't, people have been listening to this song since it was produced and they always will, SRV is one the best guitarists ever and should be respected, not have bad comments about his song.
Yea, I didn't hear about this version of the song until Blackhawk Down. Big deal, I'm glad it was featured in the movie, now I'm aware of it's awesome. Who cares where people first heard it, it's great music either way!
@11tiptdm I hate it when people think they're cool by knowing songs before they know they're in a movie/show. Music doesn't make people look cool. Music is for entertainment, not to start internet wars on so called "not true fans" and other genres.
@HardyBoyFan101 I have never seen Black Hawk Down, but I have known about SRV for a long, long time. My Uncle plays guitar very good, and he listens to SRV, Rush, and many more. I grew up around a lot of good music, none of that radio rap bullshit.
@MrMaljsamuel no, it amazing that Jimi FUCKIN Hendrix came out in November 27, 1942 and people are just not finding this through a movie made 60 years later :(
Started out listening to this with laptop speakers, and I immediately had to pause to go get the headphones out. Such quality! Don't listen to this on shitty speakers unless you have no choice!
@nightdemonproduction aaah i just love how no matter where you go there is always a contradiction to a perfectly good natured comment. I dont need to be educated about feeling, thank you very much, i have plenty of it.
@mrzulu9 prove it. Jimi called it "chile" because it is how he pronounced it and the "slight return" is so it isnt confused with the figteen minute jam
When I was in college thier was a chick I liked who always wore black. I asked her why. She turned to me looked in my eyes and said she was still mourning SRV. She became my first wife.
I hate to add this but if there were ever to be a tribute movie of Steve made that kid from "Live free or Die Hard" looks amazingly like Stevie ! Justine Long ! Just throwing the idea out there !
Actually in all reality, this song has been around for much longer than Hendrix and Stevie. Jimi took it and made it his own, hence the (slight return) and the change from "voodoo Child" to "Voodoo Chile"
I discovered this on BHD. That movie had such an awesome soundtrack! Now i use this song for the intro for all of my ArmA 2 missions (not all of it, 60 seconds or so)
@bigdave706 - thanks for a great upload the sound is pure on my comp and well just kicking back and loving this longer version - beautiful cut and upload - thanks
Just love the music! feel the beat and the rifts! i love all music and i do mean all music! for those of us who cant play or sing we can listen and feel! music lifts the soul!
You shouldn't thumb this up, unless you feel like it; You see, I don't give a damn about who came here from Black Hawk, pure knowledge or whatever. It's the feeling in this song that move us: The movie fans, older SRV fans and anyother who feels like it, we're all people of good taste; Let's just hear it, 'kay?
@ritchiepeyton Actually this song is called Voodoo Child (Slight Return) and Voodoo Chile is a slower blues song that was recorded as a studio jam with additional musicians.
The difference between Stevie and Jimi is that Stevie defined and articulated Jimi's songs to make them understandable to the ear. Jimi would go off on these tangents with his guitar where as Stevie took these notes and produced a critiqued art with them.
Chuck Norris' idea of a Christmas Carol...

This song is called Voodoo Chile (Slight return). The song Voodoo Child is a different Hendrix song. A slower blues. :)
