I moved to Cali in 94 and DO miss the my Family, Friends, Mummers, cheesestaeks, hoagies, soft pretzels, Flyers-Phillies-Eagles games LIVE. Thanks for the short trip home.

Not sure what parade you watched, but Fralinger had more going on with their banjos, accordions, and basses than anyone this year.

By the way, the 2000's are the first decade that Ferko hasn't won since they were founded, and it's not going to happen in 2009 either.

Musical professionals and other artistic production professionals judge this parade, and their reputations are on the line to make the right call.

What's ironic about your comments is that the head of the judging committee in the String Band Association is a long time member of... that's right... FERKO.

In the 40's and 50's Ferko was the gold standard in music. Now they barely get bronze in that category. What's your musical background? What do you know about blend, balance, intonation, playing with control? Not to mention the music effect category in which Fralinger and Quaker City tied for first. Those things must be applied to all instruments, including the saxes that are the dominating instrument in ALL Mummers string bands, including Ferko.

I'm not sure if you are a mummer, but if you ask the opinions of Ferko's peers, many thought they should have finished lower this year.

I have many friends in Ferko and they should know more than anyone that you don't get first prize for showing up and trying hard.

You have to be good.

By the way, you're right about quality vs. quantity. There's several bands that spent A LOT more than Fralinger this year. Once they learn to spend it wisely and play their instruments better, it might pay off.
