Carrol O'Connor hated the 'Gloria' show because the family dog was named Archie...All In The Family jumped the shark when the Meathead and Gloria moved out of the house..Should have ended then..Archie Bunker's Place was terrible...
Rest in peace Stephen J Cannell, and thanks for shows such as Greastest American
Hero,A-Team,Hunter,Silk Stalkings, just to name a few.Outstanding work thanks for sharing, these were some of the best television shows I've,enjoyed great memories
Aside from Gloria, Cagney and Lacey, and The New Odd Couple, every other show I remember watching from 1982 when I was 9. I miss the old shows so much that I don't even bother watching network TV unless it is on DVD.
It is not about being family oriented or wholesome, but just written well. The common thread of these past shows was that the stories made you think without trying to shock you and felt real. Most shows these days try to wow you with action or are written for simpletons.
I remember Tyne Daly from an old Clint Eastwood movie, she was the assistant cop. I seen her recently on some old TV shows, she put on a lot of weight, & she got very gray!
I remember being about 4 or five years old watching Simon and Simon and Cagney and Lacey with my father. This brought back a lot of memories for me. Thanks
This is the BEST one yet! I watched so many of these, I'm losing track! "Gloria", "The New Odd Couple", Happy Days", "Cagney and Lacey", "The Greatest American Hero"... I'm sure I've missed something;-) THANK YOU!
I was going to high school in San Diego when Simon and Simon was on the air. It was filmed mostly on location. I rode a bus past one of the episodes they were filming in Del Mar once.
"Gloria" WHatta fucking disaster!! It may have had 15 eps, she winds up divorcing "Meathead" and moving to the mid west (???) She gets a job as a vet's assistant, soooo lotza cuuuuute animals. BOOOOO!!
Disaster? It ran for an entire season and finished the season as the #19 show on the air. That's a hit by just about any standard. But CBS had, for whatever reason, had enough of Archie Bunker at that point...and apparently of his little goil as well and axed them both.
@TVonthePorch It was a disaster because Carrol O'Connor salary meant that it had to finish even BETTER than that to make a profit. Everyone wants to blame networks, but they are not in business to lose money on shows that are unprofitable. If you want to blame someone, blamne O'Connor whose salary 30 years ago rivaled that is the Friend's cast just 10 years ago.
I believe this was the season where Ralph finally found the instruction manual for the suit...

"Simon and Simon" had a different intro for its first season with a different theme song.

The best thing about the 80's shows were the theme songs. What ever happened to shows having a good theme song.

I miss Little House on the Prarie. We need good, wholesome, family-orientated TV like that back.
