  • Sean I've been eating this way recently, eating as much as possible whole organic foods. I also am the protein metabolic type.

I have a chronic kidney disease and have to stick to a strict renal diet and eating this way is perfect for me.

Thank you so much for your videos and the education. You're awsome

  • What you say is soooo true ..... and you are thinkingabout the Average Person in mind love this

  • Your video comments are so applicable to many other things as well, besides healthy eating.. religion, politics, conspiricies, child rearing etc.

VERY good points and good approach!

  • Thank you!!! I put myself in the "primal" camp, but I eat some things that are on the no-no list and some people are so dogmatic about it, they try to make you feel guilty over a lentil or legume lol. Ever read some of the posts on Paleohacks? holy crap! It's a way of eating, not a religion! I've been thinking of doing a vlog on this exact topic- you covered it perfectly man!

  • LOVE it, on point my friend... as a Nutritional Therapist I am totally with you on this!

  • Lol what a shot at Josh Rubin. I appreciate the video as I can relate to it. About a year ago I stopped eating carbs altogether because of some misinformation I was given. It only lasted a couple days, but is still funny when I thin back to it. I appreciate the videos man (and Josh's) not sure what the rivalry is about

  • lol i'm watching this at 1:37am... 6:22

  • Finally someone said it in plain english. Eat real food.

  • Thank you

  • this guy is an idiot check out durian riders take on him

  • i have learned my lesson from the bible and you i learned that if i don't buy temptation i won't be tempted as long as the potato chips are around the house i will be tempted and eat and will spiritually die i would feel so shame i want a fruitful spirit so now i just eat real food i will not buy into temptation

  • Brotha, you kick ass!! Finally someone talking some common sense.

I run triathlons by eating a big breakfast with eggs, veggies and salad throughout the day, and a dinner with lean meat.

  • This vid will do wonders 4 people who are seeking health. I hope more people follow your lead and begin to grow their own food. My Grandfather always told me "You can't eat a computer"...lol. This has inspired me and relieved alot of stress especially on this subject. Looking forward to rebuilding myself inside out with the info from this vid as a weapon. Thanks.

  • I adore this video!!! There is SO much info out there and a lot of it is driven by advertisers or others with an agenda...I am not a health "nerd" as you called yourself, I just want to eat better and I appreciate you breaking things down a little!

  • I love you haha

  • I'm a fructose malabsorber, the doc said no fruits, now my folic acid is low. Oh this is tough. I eat spinach alot, but I must be doing something wrong. I eat in a simple way. But something just wrong with me I guess.

  • sean...... Your agility and agitability might make you lose more weight on your baseline food.......................

  • Thanks for keeping it real :D

  • sounds like id be rit at home there!!! headed to ur site!!!

  • "fructose is bad..so i cant eat fruit anymore".

  • It's so hard to find real food though, and I can't grow a garden where I am. Can you make a video or two helping us buy real food from the grocery store without going broke? Organic fruit at the grocery store is 3 times more expensive than the regular fruit that looks like plastic, organic chicken is way more expensive than the chicken that doesn't even look like chicken... I don't even know what to buy anymore!

  • best video ever

  • "Just Eat Real Food!" What a concept! Unfortunately, "real" food is getting harder to find; so enjoy it while you can. Don't buy ANY processed food (GMO corn, soy, canola and cottonseed) and watch your health improve.

  • Yes!!!!

  • Proud to be a nerd! - Angelica :)

  • I know what you mean, when people ask me what I think they should do to improve their health I just tell them to upgrade their food to the less processed version. Replace your poptart with oatmeal, replace your mcdonalds with chicken and rice, add some broccoli to dinner, etc. I always have the small details in the back of my head, but I don't tell them to the average person :P

  • First nutritional video that I actually completely agreed with from you I think. Haha. I don't care what kind of diet or nutritional guidelines that you follow as long as you stick to it and stay healthy. The average person doesn't need to be worrying about specifics as long as they feel good. And yeah... stress is no good. Stressing about food is so ridiculous. Hahaha.

  • Preach! You are wearing the pulpit out! It's so true I started reading an unnamed book that has recently become popular and I have a headache. Just eat real food! Thanks Sean! I see you have made your stance very clear in this health food jungle!

  • reminds me of an article I read that broke down 5 foods you couldn't eat, and 3 of them were meat, dairy and grain. I was like wtf can i eat! There has to be some sanity.

  • People also need to use Tumeric spice.

  • i love you

  • Sean man, cheesecake.... you are confusing I don't know what to think now. cheesecake, please elaborate.

  • AWESOME video!!!!!! Sean is socool.

  • why does everyone want to lose weight? whats the point of that? if your 6 feet 190lbs, sure you might be overweight, but what if thats from muscles and eating real foods? all the healthy stuff. i dont get it. there is no proper way to eat food, just eat whats around you and eat as much as you can, especially if your an athlete

  • Sean you must be hanging out with uneducated people, it simple what to pick to eat

  • LOL at the stressing over the menu, I know what that's like, start with large glass of wine, then you won't stress.

  • You're simply the man Sean. All of your views on everything nutrition-wise is always on point. Everything you say makes sense, and if it doesn't you clarify. You're awesome bro.

  • Absolutely insightful. I'm a marketing guy and you really honed in on a great point. Save the nutrition jargon and ultra specific debates for the nutrition nerds like us. If your goal is to change the lives of the non-nutrition nerd you have to gear your communication in a way that will get across and have a connection with them. You must speak to them in their language, but we are so pretentiously caught up forcing our research into our arguments. We love the sound of our own voices.

  • Thank Jerf for Jesus!

  • As usual,,,, you get right to the point. I hear much to often "this is the way", no matter who says it. An yes, this "eating correct" can be very overwhelming, EVEN when you do know how to eat right! Seems like everyone needs a label on something, Paleo, Vegans, etc, in order for it to be legit. Bottom line, most people are lazy an want it done for them, when sometimes it takes a little work and time. Eating is not rocket science....

  • I eat meat, meat, and more meat. Because meat is the best and I love it. I dont care what people say about me not eating much vegetables. I eat what makes me feel better, lighter, and more balanced. Meat just does that for me. If I eat too many vegetables instead of meat, I lose energy quickly. So my philosophy, just find the foods that work for you. Experiment!

  • @PairoftheSocks Your metabolic typing clearly indicates that you are a fat/protein type

  • AWESOME VIDEO CLIP:

I was waring with my housemate who was a bit vegetarian and soy based, and against and meat and dairy. So I argued with him heaps.......

So we both decided that that processed food is bad. And we can do what we like. Just eat real food

  • you seem pretty stressed

  • Gotta love how real you are Sean. :) keep it up.

  • i'm watching this at 1am. guess thats bad.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks to u my life has changed for the best u are my greatest inspiration, thank u for doing what u do i love u

  • Awesome Sean - love it and love your "new mission" with teaching health & REAL food/growing food.

  • @mnemonics100 Thats true, I think I could buy each individual ingredient at a cheaper price and take it at a more therapeutic dosage for cheaper anyways.

  • These type of videos are why I subscribed a while ago. More of these please.

  • Another great video!

  • It's good to see you back in front of the camera. Missed you.

  • I started to think like this awhile ago........glad to see you look at food in this light

    also!!!!! totally Right ON!

  • you're the man, sean.

  • taking these things too seriously can be more unhealthy than actually being healthy.

  • Oh I missed your vids!!!

  • OMG FINALLY!!!!!! What took so long?

  • can anyone explain how the 20% day works? Do you eat cheat meals the whole day or just one meal on that day>?

    thanks in advance

  • Thank you Sean, you're a great inspiration! greetings from Hungary by the way

  • Really glad to see you doing this style of video again!

  • sean thank you, you have been very informative and this by far is one of my favorite videos from you. keep up the good work

  • great vid sean, hit a very important point. your heart and attitude is great man.

  • "Is like, dude, what can I eat?!?!?" XD

  • Pretty funny in some parts and good points all around. Looking forward to future videos and blogs on real food.

  • Hahaha, the 80/20 rule example was hilarious.

  • That's the real deal Holyfield my man....on point 100%

  • Awesome video sean! THIS IS THE TRUTH.

  • Sean.... thank you! This video resonates with me so much It's not even funny. I think I've read every possible holistic health book and heard every single podcast out there! I did raw vegan, Paleo, WAP and everything out there and got frustrated with hearing all the different opinions that I stopped reading all together and just decided to do THE BEST I CAN! After that I lost weight and feel great! Thanks for getting to the basics... keep an open mind but remember food does NOT makeup our lives

  • This really speaks to me, and I find it hilarious, because about a year ago I was told that I over-explain everything when I'm asked for advice, as if all my knowledge and experience was being challenged. The reality was, my friends just wanted to know random stuff, like how to relieve cramps, or de-stress. Just that, I have always believed the word "Doctor" means "to teach" and that we health advocates should be teaching - but just not on that level!! I think we all got carried away.

  • (continued from previous post) After the foundational principles are established, where the newcomer to nutrition understands the distinction between processed food and natural foods, then the next step is to relay this one simple idea – THERE IS NO ONE SINGLE DIET THAT IS BEST FOR EVERYONE. The Atkins diet works wonders for some, for others, they cannot stick to it, and an Ornish diet works better. Some people thrive on a Paleo diet, while others are successful on a vegetarian diet.

  • @alphacause Thank you for saying so.

  • Sean is right. There is a plethora of diametrically opposing views among nutrition experts, but one thing we should all agree on is that processed foods are not good for anyone. So let that be the first principle you convey to any nutritional neophyte. After they eschew processed foods, if they want to further refine their diet, then you can talk about the merits of Atkins vs. Ornish, Paleo vs. vegetarian/vegan diets etc. You have to get them to walk before they can run (continued).

  • these foods wars have become religious. every one seems to need their "GOD". like religion, most argue and try to force their values on other people. like christians arguing with other christians on who's more right. it's all ridiculous. eating whole organic foods is the basis and makes the most sense. keep it simple

  • that's a great video that makes me renew my confidence in undergroundwellness. i was getting very confused there, because you've been posting videos lately pushing your hate on grains and carbs etc. it got so confusing with people saying fruit's bad sugar's good etc etc i decided to give up searching for the holy grail of nutrition and just keep it simple and basic. whole real food. and that includes grains too. i'm asian and it just feels right for my body. thanks for bringing it back to basics!

  • really looking forward to your new videos. Do you have any tips on being more relaxed about food?

  • @history546 do the best you can and trust yourself

    =)

  • I guess the basic rule is "eat to live, don't live to eat". Even though I've had some disagreements with some UW videos, I just can't disagree with this. I read an article about a woman who thought crunchberries in capt. crunch was real fruit... These are the people who need help, not the ones studying the effects of saturated vs unsaturated fats. How about avoiding trans fats for start, then worry about saturated vs unsaturated

  • im smoking like a wildfire stressin about learning accurate information on how to be healthy through diet and exercise

  • Thank you Sean, you have made me feel a bit better about my own confusion when it comes to food. I know what real food is, but the trouble comes when people tell us even thats bad for us, thats when food feels like our enermy, its a real mine field of information and all I want is to feel well and have better quality of life. Keep up the good work :-)

  • Awesome blog it's about time someone cut the b/s and said it as it is. There is so much miss information out there you can develop a eating disorder very easily

  • Thank you so much! I love this video. You are awesome. It is also nice to see you with a diff background. :) We all, I think, get a a little health crazy sometimes and I can always count on you to ground us again. Big Hugs to you...my reality guru.

  • you are just plain awesome....love the way you think...you just speak complete common sense and truth...thanks Sean!!!!

  • Nutrition in Gangsta!

  • Agree. People can get really legalistic about eating. I eat healthy 90% of the time. I still enjoy some indulgences, like chocolate, cheese cake, a scone with coffee, and cheese. Thanks for the rant. I couldn't have done it better.

  • I say this all the time. People are taking the love out of food <3

  • FAVORITED

    God Bless Brother

  • Food is food no matter what it is...its calorie in vs calorie out. It quite simple nothing hard about it, the only thing making it hard is YOU. Its not what you eat that makes you FAT its what you DO. Eating whole foods and grass fed meats doesn t do jack if you still sitting on your couch twiddling your fingers on the remote. That right even the best food will still make you fat. If you eating energy and not using it, guess where it goes. My 2 cents.

  • @vr4racer

I wouldn't necessarily put it that way. It's not just about calories in/calories out, because all food has a different effect on your body. What Sean was saying was that too many people who are trying to tell others how to be healthy are doing it wrong by not breaking it down to where everyone can understand. Now, I will agree with you that many other lifestyle factors, other than diet, can greatly influence your health.

  • this video is for the people!

    good job sean

  • another class A vid Sean! i love the way you used that example, mixed with your signature rant style, to explain a lesson.

    THIS is classic undergroundwellness!

  • Missed you Sean!

  • best vid you've done Sean!

  • I think everyone who is interested in health and nutrition can relate to what Sean is saying. It is kind of inevitable when you spend so much time on one topic that you became a bit neurotic. ..like thinking when you eat some beans they are going to rip your gut barrier apart...oh boy!!

  • Comment removed

  • Sometimes when I am naked I touch myself. It helps relieve stress, tension, and frustration. I recommend it for everyone.

  • @jakejumpover And it's even better, when someone else touches yourself!

  • The four people who disliked the video have a clogged keyboard full of poptart crumbs and keys that stick cuz their soda spilled on it.

Boom!!! knockin' it OUT OF THE PARK once again, Sean!

  • Yooooo, Sean... you are Underground Wellness... we are the nerds wanting to learn the in dept details and science behind fitness, diet, and wellness. Sounds like you want to lean towards Aboveground Wellness to reach more people.

  • Best and most important vid yet, thank you, keep up the good work!

  • Yes, Real food, Whole foods. Fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and grass fed free range animal muscle if you feel the need.

  • I have a fitness + food question. I'm a runner in my late 30s and am finding lately that when I run on an empty stomach I get queezy. I don't like to run when full because it slows me down. What do you suggest?

  • youre right. ppl need to stop stressin and start enjoying their food. i've been running into too many hardcore vegans (and also strictly meat eaters) recently. ppl get too caught up on their supposed meta-type and get carried away with it. from my understanding meta-types are not set in stone, and can change even on a daily-needs bases. I know my body works best with high amounts of proteins. but that doesnt mean i dont enjoy some rice, or pieces of fruit when i feel like it.

  • I took a little bit from many diets. I don't need sugar so it was easy to eliminate. It doesn't seem you can go bad with recommending organic food.

  • Awesome.

  • were you fooddude on youtube before? do you have any idea what yt account i am talking because it closed down way back when... i remember watching his videos and enjoying them and then i went into mercola but never have i stressed my living about each and every single food do-nots and do's that i come accross. I enjoy my food and enjoy educating about my food but hope not to obsess where it takes over my health.

  • thanks for this video, Sean, I really needed this. For a long time, I have been telling people who believe veganism is the most natural diet for humans are wrong, when really, everyone is different and if that diet works for them, they have great vitality in their life, then more power to them. Same goes for someone on the opposite end of the spectrum. There is no universal truth when it comes to health. The only real truth is what works for you.

  • I think the human body is pretty flexible about what you eat as long as its from nature. Processed food, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and chemicals are the only real problem if you ask me.

  • FINALLY, A VIDEO WORTH MY TIME!!!

  • *destress, I meant ;)

  • Philosophical bulls eye. I think nutritionists have become akin to weathermen to the general public. All the contradiction is enough to make Average Joe just start binging on twinkies out of frustration. A diet never made one superior to anybody else. Remember that banana lovers!

  • Shawn, I love how you break it down for us; no stress! That's my motto :) Once again you hit the nail on the head. Thank you for looking out of us "non-nerd" peeps :) Going to bed now....distressing my body. Night!

  • Glad your back!!! :]

  • Truth. Thx, tons. We all needed to hear this.

  • Sean I think a big issue is that ppl don't know how to cook, or at least it seems like a lot of ppl feel that cooking food is too time consuming. There almost seems to be a pseudo sense of pride now-a-days when some claims, "Oh I can't cook." & what happens when a person can't/has no time to cook... they grab pre-packaged convenience food. This lack of real food knowledge, imo, is directly related to the poor choices the uneducated making when purchasing food.

  • the audio is too low. Where is your mic?

  • 30 bannanas a day people - LOL!

  • @studentoflife01 Lol yeah just looked at their website, pretty much: if you are still hungry; eat more fruit, if you crave meat; eat more fruit, if you crave cooked food; eat more fruit, if you crave nuts; eat more fruit. Crazy, those guys really don't look healthy either, all emaciated n' shit.

  • Amazing message to normal folk trying to get healthier AND to the "guru's" leading this health movement. Great video Sean.

  • Eating healthy is easy, when it's only healthy food around. Like once, who knows how many years ago. But we are now living under CONSTANT mental attack from advertisement industry, media, supermarkets, fast food places, cinemas, etc all encouraging us to eat junk. Thats why we must repeatedly remind us, what real food is. That increases stress levels naturally.

  • Sean, thanks for posting this. I've been coming to the realization that this is becoming a problem for me. You said you've read and studied Dr. Mercola's work but he seems like the exact type of person that you are talking about in this video. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm still trying to find the right balance between not stressing while living to be healthy.

  • Thanks for this vid man. I was becoming one of those confused people who have not a clue what to do and how to do it. Looking forward to the upcoming vids!

  • AMen my brother! real talk here. thats why i try and give it straight on my channel.

  • its so true!

  • Timely, very timely.

I think basically what it is, is that people need to just get the BASICS of good nutrition and health down pat. A lot of people don't even know the basics.

Once you GET the basics down, there's no need for the stress and constant guessing and second-guessing. You can continue to learn, and refine your approach to fit yourself, but this obsessive worrying about every little thing, as you astutely point out, leads to stress- and defeats the whole health-improving purpose!

  • @ShawDAMAN and when I say "basics.." I mean things like NOT eating pop tarts for breakfast and subway for lunch.... >_>

  • By taking up arms against fatty/unhealthy foods, and more importantly showing us how to eat the RIGHT foods, making the RIGHT choices, you are helping cure America's obesity problem one viewer at a time.

    Thank you.

  • Well said man..

  • Wow... This was the most down to earth, real video ever and it really resonated with me, thank you so much for this!!

  • Now that's what I'm talking about Shawn. Great vid.

  • Ahh! I cannot wait to be a health coach and help people figure out what type of diet is best for them without stressing out about what they heard on TV or read on the internet! There is a lot of conflict and it is un-necessary. Most people who live to be 100 did not do any special diet. Its all about your personal lifestyle and health. I am excited to start school and get certified!

  • Keep up the great work Sean! You're doing a great job. Ever since I started watching and reading your stuff, it has helped me cut through a lot of the BS and just simplify things down to the fundamentals. Who said this stuff had to be difficult?! ;-)

  • You are my soul sister...

  • wow .... peoplee dnt know real food....thts soooo messsed up....comon ...shheheesh...

  • Thanks for keeping it real. I'm studying nutrition and health science and even some of my professors are preaching the strict robot diets at the college level. Much respect Sean.

  • LOVE you Sean!! That is right on time... I was finding myself this morning like, oh snap I forgot to add cinnamon to my protein shake, and oops I had a bite of my son's salad with ranch on it, and oh I can't forget to get my tsp of coconut oil ... phewww! Glad to hear you still eat cheesecake! LOL!

  • Real food is found in nature:

fruits, berries, vegetables, sea vegetables, meat, organs, insects, herbs, nuts, seeds.

    THESE ARE REAL FOOD!!!!

  • +1 very well said Shaun

  • So you sell protandim hey? Is it really any good?

  • @TheMorningCoffee Yep. Been blogging about it for the last week. Check them out!

  • Everyone remeber to give a thumbs up! :~) Thank you Sean!

  • This is all unfortunately human nature. think about it, all the needless arguing people do: Ford vs. Chevy, Xbox vs. PS, Rainbow vacuum vs Kirby, and don't even get me started on religions!

  • This video reminds me of why this is the very first channel I ever subscribed to. We're all in this for better health and happiness.

  • @ejc5105 Thanks for being a long-time subscriber!

  • Great point.. one thing all these camps have in common is real food at least. I like where ur takin the channel.

I like the cheesecake comment too ;D

    ;Ghost

  • Damn buffering >:(

  • Diggin the vid bro.

    Truth.Pure truth.

  • @Shatterproof15 Thanks!

  • Pastor Sean, Croxton you are a great shepherd to many that look for guidence and understanding you genuinely care for the people and want to see them live a better and more healthy life, that is what a pastor does, cares and looks after the health and well being of the people He or she serves I am glade to call you Pastor keep up the good work.

  • LOL Yes! Finally someone speaks the truth about food. Good job man! I was waiting for someone on YouTube to do it.

  • great vid!

  • he saids its whack! man you did go old school!! lol

  • Spot on! Thanks for this video. I missed these one on ones.

  • i love it sean!! that was great, i lost 110 pounds your coconut oil video started me, and people ask me about how i did it and i cant tell them anymore. because i have watched so many vids by the tribes that i really got so screwed up that i cannot give anybody an answer. i feel bad giving them the truth because i don't want to mess them up. because these people said this or they said that . you called it sean right on

  • The central issue tends to be just a lack of pure knowledge. Where the heck are people getting some of this stuff from? How do they know it? Much of the obsession and nitpicking doesn't even make a big difference, hence JERF. The best thing I ever did for my health was take a step back and ask myself what I had the scientific evidence to believe about health and what was actually going to make a big difference in my overall wellness. Then I was able to make rational choices without stress.

  • I recently made that exact change to my lifestyle. Just eating real food. And it's great. I feel and look better than I ever have in my entire life.

  • Awesome vid Sean! I know exactly who you're talking about....the ones on facebook telling us to eat gelatin marshmallows or drink a glass of milk with pickling salt 27 minutes & 48 seconds before going to bed. Not to mention all those scientific terms they use that I can't even pronounce. I simply scroll past their posts and look for yours since your advice is so much easier for me to understand and follow. JERF!

  • I agree with you Sean. There was a point in time where I actually started to get a little food crazy and probably created more stress that way than if I were just to relax, be wise, but still enjoy some "bad" foods. One thing that has sucked for me, and probably other people, is that when you know FOR SURE certain foods will give you acne flare ups, headaches, etc.. for example, but it's something you love. Dairy products, unless very small amounts, are absolutely out of the question for me.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for the one on "one" video, Sean. :)

  • #JERF! just eat real food !

  • Well said Sean. I see more people than every trying and stressing over food. I eat good sometimes but I also eat what I want that isn't great but I don't stress. Thanks for the vid!

  • well said bro ...coudnt agree with you more :)
