  • gandalf kicks absolute ass

  • when was the last time dumbledore smote anything's ruin upon a mountainside?

  • The Balrog just wanted to join the fellowship, but Gandalf didn't want to loose the spotlight. That's why, at the end he was all like "You wanna still my thunder? Here, have the lightning too!"

  • ohgod i love gandalf so much

  • They hired the Lord of Horses to be put in a footage in this epic movie, but didn't pay him in the end ... talk of animal rights abuse.

  • anyone know the name of the song at the end when their riding?

  • 2 people who watched this video are Balrogs.

  • I just wonder - why does he talk with Christopher Lee voice at the beggining? I know that evereryone are supposed to think that this is Saruman, but why the hell Gandalf would talk with Sarumans voice?

  • @tajniak4 Maybe a transitional change from Saruman the White into Gandalf the White? Not sure. Good question though!

  • @tajniak4 If I were to wager a guess, it's because the body he is given, and the role he has assumed, is that of the of the head of the White Council. As he was one of the Maiar, his body and even name on Third Earth were dependent on the task he was assigned by the Valar. You'll notice he introduces himself as Saruman at first, and takes a moment before he appears to remember his old name.

And, of course, it gives fantastic dramatic effect. =P

  • does anyone know what part of the soundtrack this is?

  • Gandalf is from the race of Ainur, he's Maia of Manwë and Varda.

  • There is a similar forest near Sausage Manor - a world of stout boughs and mushroom induced illusions...

  • "Charming! Quite Charming forest!" I love how his voice went up two octave!

  • why did i not see any of this on my dvd unless this is a deleted scene

  • Gimli is hilarious in this scene!

  • Shadowfax! Epic!

  • Everyday was as long as lifeage on earth how can that be possile.

  • how can reincarnation, orcs, balrogs, and all the other stuff be possible .... its just a line in a movie, your reading too much into it

  • The subtitles are in French to anyone who doesn't know.

  • "This new Gandalf is more grumpier than the old one" Classic line.....

  • i want a ferrari horse :(

  • I think Patrick Stewart would have done very well as Gandalf...as well as McKellen...

  • True. There's always a perfected role which would be good with another actor in the role.

Heck, Sean Connery was supposed to be Gandalf but since he couldn't understand the books, he declined which is a shame

  • LOL at Gimli. :P

Yay! Gandalf the White! Ian Mckellen rules! There can be no other Gandalf like Sir Ian. :D

  • Gandalf the White upgrades:

    Magick pwr +10

    Strenght +5

    Charisma +5

    Can now mount Shadowfax

    Spell coolingtime halved

    Gandi is badass!

  • Yee be smitten by thy word of thy power.

  • Gandalf...vs....Dumbledore...vs...Yoda...Vs. Proffessor Xavier...vs.The Sandman....the most epic battle of all time

  • That would be so awesome they should make that into a fkin move

  • gandalf would win

  • until at last i threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountain side.

I love that bit so much

  • lol gandalf looks so cool wen he is a white!

  • Ian McKellen did such a great job of portraying Gandalf! I love the way he talks!

  • "and then i threw down mine enemey and smote his ruin upon the mountainside."

Sucks to be a balrog of Morgoth when Gandalf rides thru your neighborhood.

  • gandalf leveled up.

    lol.

  • DING!

  • he took a level of awesome. can you notice?

  • Level 3

    Magic + 3

    Strength +1

  • I really have to watch these movies again..

    ...

In fact, why not start now?

    *Pops Lotr1 into his 360*

  • Christopher Lee actually did an audition for gandalf but he was casted for saruman ^^ and if you hear closely youc can hear the voice of saruman in gandalfs voice in the beginning

  • yeah I know. I couldnt see Christopher Lee playing Gandalf. He always plays villains.

  • A battle of two titans. I'd say it'd be a safe wager that that the last thing that balrog was expecting that day was to come up against one of his own kind (Maia).

  • Is Gandalf actually a Maia? Because I red the silmarillion and it was said that he was send from over the sea or something... but nothing more was know about him

  • He is indeed, and also one of the Istari. There were five of them: Saruman, Radagast, Alatar, Palando, and, of course, Gandalf that were sent from Valinor to keep an eye out on Sauron.

  • man do I love these stories! :D there is no book that'll ever interest me than Tolkiens books! thx for the info!

  • Man if he said "I am sauromon" I would have thrown my other axe at him staraight away i f i was gimili.THUNK Aragon:Gimili what the hell was that?Gimili:What he said he was saramon

  • I love this scene! Gandalf so owns!!!!

  • what is the song at the end?

  • It's there in the movie, you may have to buy the soundtrack.

  • Olórin

    epic person

    the wisest of the maiar

  • How do you get the accent marks over letters? I know that that may seem like a dumb question, but *noone* has ever been able to tell me. lol 8)

  • im using a foreign keyboard mate

mine has the ´ right og my "p" key

just press it followed by a vowel

  • I love this movie....

  • Did anyone else catch the biblical references in these tales? Watch the final battle when he's coming down the mountain on the white horse. That's very much like Christ in Revelations.

  • What? No response after your childish rants on me?

    That's EXACTLY what I thought!

    grow up.

  • Oh God, I'm being repremanded severely by the F.N. LOTR Fan Club over a simple conceptual idea I had about Gandalf! Lol!

By the way, F.N. stands for Fanatic Nutball!!

  • shadowfangs...

  • Would have been a great Dumbledore

  • True, but all the time I would have been thinking "oh look! Gandalf!!". So probably a good idea to use the actor(s) that got the part in the end...

  • I wonder how much XP Gandalf the grey got for nailing the Balrog... enough to get level up! I suppose...

  • lol shut up

  • lol... I suggest you look into the mechanisms of literature... its meanings, themes and wider purpose. Have a good day. Time will tell! ;)

  • haha i absolutely appreciate all the important "mechanisms of literature," don't worry about that! are you suggesting your silly comment portrays a keen understanding of literature? seems more like an understanding of fantasy gaming, which is completely cool btw

  • GANDALF!!!!!

  • And everyone cheers!

  • 2:41 legolas is like " idont give a shit if you are white or grey you are gandalf anyway" LOL

  • got two words, AWSOME SCENE gandalf was so tall- Mithrandir

  • shadowfangs is such an amazing horse...

  • it's shadowfax, not shadowfangs.

  • I think a movie about him would be a good idea. It could start out from the time of his birth to his young adult life and how he went through trials and tribulations, and maybe he could have loved a girl and planned to marry her instead of becoming a wizard, but lost her in some way, which made him choose the path of becoming a wizard.

That is how I would look at the past of Gandalf, anyway. Maybe I'll try to make a sims 2 video this....

  • ... unless you are joking, you would never have said those words if you knew anything at all about LOTR.

  • Excuse me, but do you have a problem with me?

There's nothing wrong with what I said!

I was responding to jfbruglio and I thought a movie all about Gandalf would be a good idea. Second of all, don't take that attitude with me again over a movie and just because I was speaking hypithetically about something, okay?

  • What he wanted to say was that although your movie idea can be nice, you won't be able to fit it into Tolkien's world because the origins of wizards there is a bit different, they are not humans who become wizards but they are spirits sent by Valar.

    Wiki:

    Wizard_(Middle-earth)

    Otherwise, good luck with video.

  • I could care less what he meant! I don't need to be corrected by a bunch of fanatics over a simple and conceptual idea I had about Gandalf. You guys take this too seriously and the movie itself is supposed to be fun for everyone, not a flecking dictatorship where people get judged for ideas about the movie itself!

    So there!

  • LOL!!!!!!!!! idiot.

  • Ha ha,

  • Gandalf is one of my favrote characters. Too bad they won't make a movie entirely about him and how he became the greatest wizard in LOTR.

  • I never thought about that. What a good idea. Like "Lord of the Rings: Origins; Gandalf"

  • im the gandalf

  • gandalf looks like an angel

  • Someone once described him as a "lesser angel" sent back to the earth.

  • gimli is hilarious..."charming i mean quiet charming forest...lmao"

  • I take it this is from an extended edition dvd? My dvd version is missing most of this footage, whyyyy? What else am I missing??

  • Many things. You should get the EE.

  • Gandalf's Level Up.

  • GREAT!

  • err how is gandalf the white also saruman, as saruman was supposed to be?

  • he died and came back!!! err did you not watch the movie?

  • yes............. im not an idiot, all i wanted to know is how he is saruman aswell as gandalf ye fool

  • Listen carefully to what he says Im Saruman... Or rather Sauman as he should have been

  • yh i heard that, i just dont understand it :p

  • Saruman should have been wise, virtuous, brave, and entirely committed to overthrowing Sauron. That was his task. When he fell into evil and, in the book, rejected his title of 'The White' in favour of 'The Many Colours', he had failed in his purpose as head of the order, and so was replaced by Gandalf. Thus Gandalf became the White Wizard in his place.

  • Basically Saruman failed the order of the Istari as the white wizard, and Gandalf was sent back to replace him :)

  • Saruman is the one with the cloak of many colors, he is not saruman the white...gandalf is the the only istari with a reference to white as his color.

  • well saruman is also called the white wizard and here he says "i am saruman as he should have been"

  • Gandalf to Gimli. "Merry and Pippin are quite safe. In fact they are far safer than you are about to me."--Funny

  • Reminds me very much of my Grandfather... love this film. My warm and loving regards,

  • Gandalf's Level Up

  • naa the dude that played gandi i forgot his name did a perfect job..

he s gonna be in the hobbit movie too

  • Scratch that, Gandalf is the most amazing character in any story! I wa not paying attention to what I typed. I meant it as Gandalf is my favorite.

  • what do you mean i love this book its great

  • I love the books to, but here he only calls the shadowvacht(in dutch its called like that)

But then there are supposed to be 3 horses to come, not only gandalfs one.

Since aragorn and legolas's horses runned away.

  • kid can't speak english

  • I don't mean to offend anyone, or get into a long and weary argument but you can't call someone a "nerd" for knowing their own language and being able to use it appropriately.

  • I myself slightly prefer saruman to gandalf, and no, Gandlaf is not second only to sauron. thoudh he saruman and the white council are all very close to it

  • Gandalf is awesome. This scene is brilliant.

  • Gandalf is so cool. It upsets me in the extended edition of RoTK when the witch king breaks his staff. The way I understand it Gandalf is far more powerful than him even in his earthly form. Second only to Sauron

  • Holy shit! Gandalf uses an encumbering spell on Aragorn!

  • I love this scene

  • lol i dont understand why in minas thirith he doesnt use the power he uses in other scenes

  • Lol 4:18 reminds me of one of the seven dwarves whistling for some reason.

  • cool video! very much enjoyable!

  • Drammatic i know... :). but, if you think about it for a while... i'm sure you will understand the themes within this clip. Be well and happy. great post.... kindest regards,

  • thats at 4:58 btw

  • WTF.. when he hails the horse by its name 'Shadowfax' the french subtitle says 'Gripoil' :|

  • Morrowind LVL UP

  • 1.44-2.48 EPIC

  • Wish they woulda extended the extended version... 5 minutes isn't NEARLY enough as i would of liked out of a chapter long scene :(

  • Gandalf..? It can not be...

  • How wonderful... like a wise loving Grandfather. Great post. Kindest regards,

  • Yeah, I know, sorry about that.

But isn't comparing Jesus with this "Gandalf" a little bit too "hard", too?

As far as I am concerned, Jesus was not a warrior; Jesus didn't serve a dynasty; He was not a well looked after old man. Nor did he dwell among the soldiers.

I think such far-fetched comparisons are a bit dangerous; look, if Gandalf has his counterpart in the real world (let's say Jesus); then as a matter of fact, Sauron too. The Russian, the Arabs, Jews, ...? Just give it a thought.

  • I was actually referencing your ongoing posts about elven washing powder. I'm not sure where you got Jesus out of that, but alright.

  • i agree you must not compare the two its dangerous even tolkien said he wasnt based off jesus he was more like a powerful prophet if anything hes like samuel sent to help lead men

  • I pretty much agree with you in that it's wrong to liken the characters directly. However, I don't see anything wrong in drawing parallels with individual scenes and things that people did or taught in the Bible. That's different. Even then though, you have to be careful...and always point out that the parallel is of your making and not necessarily the writer;s.

  • I get what your saying the greatest parralell ive seen through gandalf is that he is most like samuel a great priest of god whom he listens to only

  • I'm sorry, but you're trying way too hard.

  • He was the Grey...Now he's the White...Wanna know why?

    He buys:

GANDALF'S ULTIMATE WASHING-POWDER OF THE ELVEN

  • Just one thing...

Gimli's pants are fairly too...u know...Fifty years under Moria...But there's still a way out of this predicament. Have a look at Legolas' Hair-Whitening Shampoo (Deluxe Edition).

Take care, Sauron ! Uncle Gandalf's coming with his

    GANDALF'S ULTIMATE WASHING-POWDER OF THE ELVEN !

Next time,we'll teach Saruman why he should not put the white cloaks and the coloured ones in the same basket. Aragorn will also discover why he direly needs a 5-isildurs razor...

  • Hey, don't you think this is just a poor TV commercial for a new washing powder?

"Look, I've been riding for three years in the mud, and my cloak is still immaculate!"

"And you can use Gandalf's Ultimate Washing-Powder of the Elven with your donkey, too".

No, no, that's postively NOT ON.

  • Gandalf is great.

  • Gandalf manages to utter the most Metal line in the history of cinema: "I threw down my enemy, and smote his ruin upon the mountainside."

    \m/

  • The Dark Lord has Nine. But we have One, mightier than they: the White Rider. He has has passed through the fire and the abyss, and they shall fear him.

  • Did Gandalf forget his name because as he said "every day was like a earth's lifetime" when he was dead?

  • I think he forgot his name because his old identity was wiped clean by the enlightenment. Spending all that "non-time" in the Void beyond thought and time made him "reborn" as the White.

  • Yeah but if his mind had been "wiped clean" he would not have reminded himself that "the gray" was what they called him.

  • each day was as long as a life age of the earth, thats what time was to him , after fighting the balrog his spirit went to valinor ( heaven ) and was sent back as head of the istari order, the order of the wizards. so to him it seems like he was gone longer like hundreds of years and his name in valinor is not gandalf but is somthing like olrion. so its not hard to understand how he would forget his earth name

  • i was crying when gandalf fell and i fainted when gandalf came bak

  • perhaps only through journeying through to the other side may we as well shine.

  • It is absolutely true. What we find is that we have always been shining. Matter is really nothing but the energy of consciousness.

  • so what happened, gandalf died, then he went to "heaven" or what its called in middle-earth, and then the valaa sent him back as a stronger wizard?

  • Gandalf died as Gandalf the Grey. But because he died willingly sacrificing himself for the sake of the others, he was sent back by Ilúvatar, as a significantly more powerful figure.

    Hope that helped.

  • Actually Gandalf was a Maiar (Olorin), so I would doubt whether he DIED.

  • I think that his physical form 'died', but you're right about his spirit not dying. He was in the form of an old man on Middle-earth because the Valar (i think) wanted to limit his powers in the physical world. So, physically, he died, but Eru Ilúvatar sent him back in a new physical form.

  • GANDALF RULES!!!!

  • Lucky for Gandalf that Aragorn's sword wasn't Anduril at this point, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to burn it out of his hand. In the books, the blade turned hot but Aragorn didn't drop it.

  • it's not shadowfax it's scadufax

  • It's Shadowfax

  • *Sceadufaex, in reconstructed West-Saxon - the ae should be ligatured, the Old English letter known as aesc='ash', but I lack the skill with a computer-keyboard. 'Faex' means hair or mane; it survives in the personal name 'Farfax'.

  • Sorry typo: FaIrfax.

  • In the book, it says Shadowfax.

  • Perfectly correct & proper, but the conceit of the book is that it is a translation. In this 'translation' the language of the Rohirrim(Riders of Rohan, the Riddermark) is rendered as a form of Old English, specifically the Mercian(=Mark) dialect.

  • Oh ok. Fare enough. Thanks for that.

  • shadowfax lord of all horses

  • Gandalf is awesome, so pure! He represents all that is good

  • death and resurrection. remind you of someone else? :)

  • Our Lord Jesus Christ. Tolkien was Catholic, so it makes sense that he would use Jesus as part of the foundation of Gandalf's character.

  • If I am not mistaken he is the one that introduced C.S. Lewis to christianity.

  • Yeah, Round-Up. Supposed to kill weeds and grass, but the bloody things always come back one day or another.

  • i love that balrog scene....and how gandalf bows to shadowfax showing respect to the lord of all horses!

  • I love this part. Thanks for posting.
