You say that there is no private sector left, but the reality is that it's the public sector that's much smaller, because the previous Tory government sold off many of the state-owned entities in order to keep the public finances afloat. The option of selling off national assets to balance the budget was clearly no longer available after the mid-1990s.

But Labour set the backdrop for huge personal debt, they could have regulated the system to prevent the borrowing binge. As for selling off utilities etc - again you're going back 25 years and conveniently ignoring 13 years of Labour 1997-2010 when the public sector was massively increased in terms of numbers of state employees, & huge public sector pay rises - all built on debt.

As an American, I can see where she was going with this. Across the world there is debt problems, you know who is to blame, the people that are taking out the loans and credit cards. people want to blame the governments and banks for all this, yes some of the problems started there but all it is is people overextending themselves. The debt problem has been caused by the banks. The property price rises were not due to extraordinary increased demand, they were due to an extraordinary amount of money being made available to people who used it to bid up prices. If credit had been restricted prices could not have risen to such heights.... How we get out of it...that's another story....probably its best just to let it collapse and to avoid throwing good money after bad...finis.

Across the world there is debt problems, you know who is to blame, the people that are taking out the loans and credit cards. people want to blame the governments and banks for all this, yes some of the problems started there but all it is is people overextending themselves. Maybe the citizens should take responsibility for their own actions, and pay off their debt, or not put themselves in so much debt.

The debt problem has been caused by the banks. The property price rises were not due to extraordinary increased demand, they were due to an extraordinary amount of money being made available to people who used it to bid up prices. If credit had been restricted prices could not have risen to such heights.... How we get out of it...that's another story....probably its best just to let it collapse and to avoid throwing good money after bad...finis.
