  • first to dislike - awww yeaaaaah

  • Im kinda jealus about his job.

  • no dislikes? well that's rare xD

  • They never quite get the eyes right. It's a shame. Watching the real Andy Serkis, who bares a likeness to Gollum in the first place, is like a breath of fresh air into the lungs of Gollum's character.

I think Peter Jackson could have taken a page from Gore Verbinski's book - instead of replacing the actor completely, leave the eyes in like they did with Bill Nighy playing Davy Jones.

  • @Fagottron hehe, actually davy is all digital. yes, even the eyes. i know that you can see bill Nighy wearing makeup in the mocap shoots cause Gore wasnt sure about the eyes coming through. he changed his mind in the end though.

  • It's funny, the scene they show of this wasn't motion captured at all. All keyframed. Watch behind the scenes stuff on the extended DVD. They go into how this "split personality" scene was done and while it is very close to Serkis' performance, it's NOT motion captured.

  • CAESAR!!!

  • And to think that scrawny little guy went on to play King Kong, in King Kong.

  • i don't think i'd be able to work with Andy, i'd be ROFLing so hard

  • TF2PT,

2 months ago there was no Avatar ;)

But yes Avatar has the best now.

  • I don't think comparing this to avatar counts because this is traditiona key-framing animation and Avatar was all Motion Capture.

  • @rofldan

What was key framed? Looks like he's wearing a suite and controlling full body movements too.

Great Mocap actor can sometimes > keyframing, 2 bad its too expensive for anyone to buy which is why everyone pretends that pure keyframing is divine

  • Yeye and now avatar was made 8 years later...some upgrades is the technology has been made

  • Gollum is the best animated character in movies so far...

we wantsssss it we neeeedsss it....must .... have .... the preccsssssious! lol

  • @whitescape: not anymore, check out Avatar ;-)

  • @whitescape I believe Avatar has easily done a better job now that the tech is even better.

  • lol :D

  • @whitescape 1 word for you sir....

    avatar

  • Andy Serkis does a great job with mocap. He also did the performance for king kong.

  • gollum was all I liked in that movie

  • ...myyy....preciosssss

  • ahhh interesante!!!!

  • haha. for a moment i thought that was a piss-take :P Like 'Dead Ringers'

  • wtf's wrong wiht the sound?

  • i thought gollum was real....NOT !

  • Ok maybe it could have been blended better but the actual facial animations and deformations had nothing wrong!

  • Oh no...:-D I didnt mean it like that. Gollum was perfect! That was shy i said that i thought he was real. But i didn´t in fact... Sorry for my bad jokes.

  • @quaxswed You dont have any friends, nobody likes you...

  • ostras que pasada que bien lo hace. Casi se podrian haber ahorrado la parte de ordenador y haberle puesto directamente a el.

  • HAHAHA LOL

  • A renderfarm can be built cheaply if you shop correctly. I found that a rendering node with 4 intel cores could cost as little as $300 a piece in a rack setup.

  • lol i don't get it why didn't they just use the real gollum (gollum impersonator) because they look just the same :D

  • They based gollums appearance on Andy Serkis, as he also does the voice. But he most certainly doesn't have a body that described gollum lol.

  • @utarevoide its andy serkis the one who IS Gollum

  • @utarevoide They used him before he got "addicted" to the ring.

  • @utarevoide They did , he is in the movie when Gollum finds the ring in that lake.Same actor.

  • @AmurgAprins HEHE mmkay :)

  • @utarevoide I loled when i read your comment , they do look the same , hahahaha :)

  • @AmurgAprins lol, yep! :DDDDD

  • @utarevoide Because that would have required Andy Serkis to starve himself almost to death lol

  • LMAO they shoulde used that guy insted in the movie it woulda been golden. XDDDD

  • Wow :)

  • shadow479 : xD xD

  • Are they brothers ? LOOL just kidding

  • I think... i'm not a 100% sure but they do it with a software called motionbuilder, and the suit that the guy has on is called mocap, the software is like 3.400 bucks but the suit let me tell u is like a 100.000.

  • wtf?..I swear I thought Gollum/Smeagol was real...but, it was animation at all?...Damn!!!!

  • Maya is the best!!!

  • no 3ds max

  • motionbuilder

  • huh

  • max has some good stuff, like fume, but its really made to be the lower end program now with Autodesk's purchase of the program. All in all, its really just what you get accustomed to. A lot of gaming companies use max. Not quite sure why, but it definitely is more bang for the buck. maya unlimited is $5000!!

  • What about master yoda from star wars so this is how they made him?

  • how they connect 3d model with that human. i think that machine is too costly. it saves all the time for animation in computer

  • more than hundred thousand...hell yeah that is extremely high cost but you know you earn dozens more after that

  • wow, wonderful

  • I'm a New Zealander, and I can definitely say that I'm proud of Weta Digital.

  • Cool!

  • its very good .Which software they have used ???

  • They use the software Autodesk Maya to make Gollum.

  • And they also fine tuned him with ZBrush.

  • cool!

  • Cool!

  • oh ma l'attore è veramente uguale a gollum! ahah, grande.

  • Cool!

  • Cool!
