Witnessing WMIOD> 986 ft Tall Trees accompanied by the creative energy flowing out of the 3 different mediums (fire dancing, live painting, Tribe) would be a truly spiritual and inspirational experience. I love how art inspires art
i love old STS9, and this video just proves it. now when i see them i just think, sweet necklace murph. i will be forever grateful if the crystals, instrumentation, and saxton are brought back
But I'd have to agree if you want to hear some beautiful old tribe go to internet archive and download their shows from '98-'05. Good shit, peace love & music.
This is amazing, I'd do anything to go back to the 4th of July in '03 and jam to this. Love tribe's old songs i.e. water song, circus, mischief, R&E, surreality, tap in, frequencies. Old school sector 9 is some incredible stuff, too bad I wasn't able to witness any of their early shows. People just need to accept that band's change over time, it's not like they're gonna play the same shit repeatedly, they grow and expand with time. Old tribe, new tribe, its all good.
thank you i preach this in every forum im in and im just glad that someone els gets it....... bands that dont evolve dont make it great comment sts9 4 life
don't know why all the talk/comparison of lotus and sts9. I love them both.. get totally different vibes going at each of their live shows.. love raging to both!!
blackcrowe and jb2397 should at least give old school s9 a try...thats the real deal no doubt....sure, ive grown to accept their new stuff, but its not my preference at all...id rather hear a satori, TWELVE, quests, reemergence, puma, quests, water song, etc over peaceblaster, and their new PA garbage (heavy, atlas, arp, umbra, etc)...to all the new fans, please please please listen to their older stuff...best years from 2002-2004 imo
when i heard lotus at rothbury, i thought hey were 10x better than new sts9. but when i think back to old sts9 shows, those are 10x better than lotus. tribe just isn't as funky anymore, and murph hardly ever throws out the slap bass funk like he did back in the day. seems like he's "dumbed it down" if you will. listen to their 1998/1999 shows on archive, you'll see what i'm talkin about
new tribe is good, energetic but a little industrial. old tribe is the shit, on a different level, they throw out some good older tunes on special occasions too so it still works out a little.
and lotus is alright, tribe is on a different planet compared to them though...
so fuckin tired of all you haters man. When ppl say why don't they play like this anymore, I wonder what the hell they mean. B/c they don't play believe anymore? Look they still play one song into another...for news years encore they played wmiod>circus>wmiod. Idk what the hell you noobs want out of em....guess what? Bands change, and in tribes case, for the better, so stuff it
If you wonder why a lot of people don't like there shows anymore its b/c you never saw them before.. back when they would play a whole set and you never knew were one started and the other began.. Now they just have 12 minutes of repetition, followed by 8 minutes of repetition, followed by 10 minutes of repetition and so on..
It seems to me in this video that they go from one song to the next...i can tell when one starts and one ends .....face it, new tribe is more intense, more exciting, and alot more fun to watch and experience then there older stuff...but hey to each their own
First song is We'll Meet in Our Dreams. As far as I know, it's not off of any album of theirs. Second song is Believe from the album Live At Home (taken from the STS9 website). Third song is 986 ft. tall trees, also not from any album.
The song is actually Believe, the track after Luma Sunrise off Live at Home. One of the few times I've heard anything from Live at Home played live haha. I wish they'd bring back some of that stuff because it's so experimental and has so many different sounds to it.
the band is still the band. they are just evolving and your stuck with one sound taste. .. the band is just as good if not 20x's greater now. appreciate thier sound for what it is. it will and always will be sector 9
Tribe definitely has a different direction and sound than they did way back when. It's a lot more in-your-face, and easier to dance to. Some people dig that; some prefer the exploratory, improvisational elemental they started out with. Personally I like the new sound, but I wish they could incorporate more improv every now and then. Like the 28 min Shock Doctrine from the 12/29/08 Tabernacle show was sick. I'd love to hear more ambient, spacy stuff like that especially between songs during shows
@jono128 that Shock Doctrine wasn't really 28 minutes if I remember correctly, it's just listed as such on their soundboards. It was Shock Doctrine straight into 20 minutes of ambient noises and stuff that they played during the set break..
@FLyAgaric421 Yeah I know it's not really Shock Doctrine. I wish they would do that more because they're sooo good at creating soundscapes that just take you to a whole other level. And then when they end up putting a beat to it, I start to melt. That's the sort of thing they would do at a PA set I saw in Boston about a year ago, actually one of the best Tribe shows I've seen.
back in 1999? wow man you've know em a really long time then..hard to believe but if so, must be really cool to see them grow from the type of music they played then, to the combination of styles they play now
One of their shows got rained out in Asheville, NC. I went up there w/o a ticket. Found out that the show had been canceled BUT .... STS9 had hooked up with some hip hop/spoken word kids and played a HOUSE PARTY for 300-400 of their closest friends. lol. It was unbelievable.
yeah the second set was really good, usually the pageant is an awesome place to see a show, close quarters, right next to the stage, the only time it gets bad is when like you said the floor is packed, other than that the show was really good
I was at that show (4-20 in st. louis). The second set was tight, but the venue is terrible. The floor was way to crowded with people who didn't appreciate the music, and the sound by the bars in the back was terrible
We'll Meet In Our Dreams hell yea what a great song

@FLyAgaric421 - as far as I can tell (and I've dug far and wide) a soundboard recording was not made of the 2003 High Sierra sets.
