We don't go over there and kill innocents, we don't fire unless fired upon. We provide help and train their armies and police forces so they can police their own. @USN276 yeah definitely. I don't know much about the actual Navy, just the Marine route. You'll goto Navy bootcamp for 2 months which isn't all that bad. Next you'll goto Corpsman "A" school where you'll learn EMT and some hospital related skills. Afterwards, you'll either get sent overseas, to a Navy command, or the Marines. I was sent to Lejeune. Here, you'll start with PSI duty, which in like on the job training. Then Field Med, where you learn to be a Marine in a sense.

@USN276 Once you get to your actual unit, you'll fall under the Navy side, but do everything with your Marines. I went with the infantry and fell into a squad. If they have medical problems, it'll be up to you to take them to your BAS or handle it on your level. You'll recieve alot of training from your medical officer and your IDC (independent duty corpsman; pretty much a Physcian's Assisitant). I think I blabbered enough lol It's been a crazy 4 1/2 years, met guys I'll never forget.

@USN276 unless you get it guaranteed at MEPS (your recruiter will take you) in a contract, there's no telling where you will go. In Corps school, they give you a choice. I said west coast. My original orders were 3rd MLG in Japan, then it got changed at the last second to 2nd MAR DIV east. Your first 4 years are pretty much wherever the Navy needs you. Afterwards, you get to choose out of a list of places. I wanted to stay with my Marines so I did. Hope this all helps.

I would whole-heartedly support our troops 100% IF it was truly a national defense--emphasis on DEFENSE--strategy. I am a Ron Paul supporter and I support giving veterans the care & benefits they need, and not cutting the military, but reverting to a diplomatic approach. Asking why, rather than shooting first and asking later. National defense is important, of course. But our current state of 'national offense' is unnecessary and only serves to make weapon manufacturers rich. My 2 cents +more.:)

When I came back from Russia we had a huge group of people lined up on both sides of the ramp coming out of the plane shaking our hands and everything, and I was pretty creeped out, but the amount of respect our military has is so vast i dont think the universe can fill it.

Amen!!Agreed Infinity percent. Every soldier I've talked to says the same thing..its odd as hell for them to have random people thank them, they appreciate the support but are wary on how to respond.
