@Pride1of1london He's talking about the Major scale which is also known as the Ionian mode. The modes go Ionian (Do Re Me Fa So La Ti Do), Dorian (Re Me Fa So La Ti Do Re), Phrygian (starts on Me), Lydian (Fa), Mixolydian (So), Aeolian (La), Lorian (Ti). By knowing this you can branch them together to know every single note in any key and where it is on the guitar which is how Joe shreads.
