you've just got to do some active learning.

download his tabs, watch the videos, he teaches you like 99% of the parts, but listen to the actual mp3 of mason williams playing it and just piece it together. i've got a full version memorized now... from his stuff, just.. with a little work on my part

I just posted CG. To get MW's driving force and his minor squeaks I tune down one whole step from A=440. and used new strings. If you can bar you can learn the unsimplified version. You eventually need to learn to bar chord anyway. These are great beginners lessons. Very well done.

Well Mike, I have been able to successfully play the entire song up to the point where you begin to change pitch and play that lovely section with the strange C or F at the start. Yeah, it is uncomfortable for me too. I have just always wondered why it is considered incorrect form. It's like you said, if it works for a person then they need to do it that way. I thought this piece would be too hard for me to learn, but I was able to pick it up in four of five hours. The one confusing thing has been finding two people that play it the same. Emmanuel, Atkins, Mason, and the guy doing these lessons all play it different. Even the tabs are different. And my name's David too.

Have been playing for >30 years done some finger picking (windy and warm etc) so learned it fairly quick couple hours yesterday couple hours today I think I have it.
