I'm having trouble seeing what strings you're playing. Wish this tutorial was in at least 360p, preferably 480 or HD. Can't complain, though. It's free after all.
video quality is bad.... Your a good teacher though, couldn't see which strings you were picking for each note but it's all good cause i mastered this lesson by ear like all the previous videos....... time to learn the next one :)

Sweeet tutoriall man, i like how you start to get faster in each video as it progresses, anyhows ive got to here for today so ima throw in the towell till tomorrow so i can practise these parts.. cheers maate!
I have worked my way through all the lessons and learned the piece. Thank you very much for posting them Mike. I found it diligently and comprehensively explained. My only criticism would be the bad tuning of your guitar which I have listened to for many hours now but have borne stoically in gratitude for this posting.
hey Mike, your voice sounds a bit different in this one... Anyway, great tutorial :) I have valiently survived this far through the piece. Will hopefully see it through to the end.
Hello, thank you so very much! I love your easy to follow lessons. I've been trying to play with Mason Williams on u-tube to get up to speed and I'm almost there. On the Smother's Brother's one he ends with an A chord and then works his way up the neck. Could you please teach me that ending? I can't figure it out by watching. I've been wanting to learn this song for years. Thanks again....Alane
download his tabs, watch the videos, he teaches you like 99% of the parts, but listen to the actual mp3 of mason williams playing it and just piece it together. i've got a full version memorized now... from his stuff, just.. with a little work on my part
I remebered when I first started playing I was told to hold my thumb on the back of the neck.. I wish I wouldn't have listened to that. Now I'm trying to break myself of that habbit.. But old habbits kinda hard to break
I just posted CG. To get MW's driving force and his minor squeaks I tune down one whole step from A=440. and used new strings. If you can bar you can learn the unsimplified version. You eventually need to learn to bar chord anyway. These are great beginners lessons. Very well done.
started this in march and cannot believe I am here already, I didn't rush it and got each part well and truly under control before continuing, thanks Mike you are a legend in your own lifetime!
Lesson six, started in March and I cannot believe I am here at last, I didnt't rush and made sure that all the other lessons were well and truly under my fingers before I went on. Thanks Mike you are a legend in your own lifetime!!!
i never thought i would be able to play such a complex song, yet your lessons have allowed me to learn it with reletive ease. thank you. i feel like a pro
I remember when this song was released in 1969. It was in the top ten along with "honky tonk women" and the Beatles Abbey Road stuff. We marveled at this song and thought "we could never possibly learn that song"---but you have proved us wrong! THANK YOU!!!
this lesson is way way way way less cool than the other ones i just can't see the timeing what so ever on it! please please redo like the other ones they were so easy and straightforward to learn! thanks!
Hi Mark, I can see how easily you paly the piece. But some part is really fast for a beginner like me. I am struggling at some point and i wonder if you would so kind as to provide me with the tab to help me.
Well Mike, I have been able to successfully play the entire song up to the point where you begin to change pitch and play that lovely section with the strange C or F at the start. If you could explain that part in a slightly slower and less confusing way, then I would be very much obliged. Thanks again, and keep doing what you do!
It helped me to get the tabs and also to download two or three other people playing it. I was able to hear and see how it progressed and that made it easier for me to learn.
Tell that to Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Brent Mason, James Burton, Jerry Donahue, Steve Wariner, Arlen Roth, Johnny Hiland, Danny Gatton, and ... well, just about every great guitarist that really matters. I've always wondered who the great "authority" was that said using the thumb is incorrect. He must have been THE guitar god or something. And by the way ... what did you say your name was?
Yeah, it is uncomfortable for me too. I have just always wondered why it is considered incorrect form. It's like you said, if it works for a person then they need to do it that way. I thought this piece would be too hard for me to learn, but I was able to pick it up in four of five hours. The one confusing thing has been finding two people that play it the same. Emmanuel, Atkins, Mason, and the guy doing these lessons all play it different. Even the tabs are different. And my name's David too.
Mike..please can you show us the finger picking/plucking patterns of the bar chords G-C-F-B flat...instead of just a quick strum..which is spoiling the whole piece. Thanks.
If you guys can't figure out what he's doing in the video, why don't you check out the tab that he has and stop complaining about him playing too fast?
After the pull-of in the first A-minus, do you play another loose B-string or is the pull-of note what's starts the arpeggio? can't really see in the vid
Thanks am having lots of fun with it. Have been playing for >30 years done some finger picking (windy and warm etc) so learned it fairly quick couple hours yesterday couple hours today I think I have it. Now I need to practice over and over so I can play it smoothly wo stopping and thinking, this will take a while but will be lots of fun. Thanks again!
you've missed some notes or not - doesn't really matter because you have the 'body' of
the piece for us all and it's up to every guitarist to play it in the way that is satisfying for them. Sometimes I actually like to hear people who improvise and add something of their own color to a work. It's
great reading some of the comments by the younger guitarists and it's great that your helping us all!
my guitar journey seems always a struggle, but my stubborness and the sweet sounds of melody keeps chipping its way at my heart and hands. Mike your video lesson presentations plus tab is allowing to go musically where I only dreamed. Many Thanx

great job mike! you've helped me so much! there were so many parts that just weren't right in some of the tablatures that i found and watching these videos has helped me figure my way through the song. thanks a lot!
I love this part of the song. Awesome videos Mike, they've been very helpful. Usually I would learn from tabs, but it's kind of hard doing it with this song I reckon. So thanks a lot! :)

It would be best to ignore such stupid comments. Well keep up the good work!
im bit sad that this part is alot harder to learn, specialy that part wich starts 3:14 or something. becose u dont spell that part by part as your earlier lessons :( sry my english
If you're busy and just don't have time we'd understand. However we at the very least need some sort of idea as to a date when the final part is coming. Is it less than a week? Less than a month? Give us something. Please.
PLease post the end of Classical gas...been stuck on part 6 for a month!! Can't wait to know the end and start playing it in front of everybody!!! thanks Mike you're the best teacher ever!!!
holy crap im like freakin' out right now because im almost playin' the song perfect. your an amazing teacher and i really appreciate what your doing. this song is so amazing and im glad im learning it so easy.
Mark, you rock. You have made a great song so easy to learn. I will be keeping an eye out for all your lessons and hope to purchase what you have available. Keep up the good work.
these are really great lessons but I am having trouble with the second part of this video I cant tell what strings your picking in that part you go through that part so fast I cant pick it up
hi mike you are my favorite teacher. i have never expected that learning to play the guitar with you is so much fun. i'm always excited to see what new lessons you could come up with. thank you so much.
you rock!!!! Lessons are simple, clear and accessible for beginners!! Almost done the song :) Do you know how the play it like the version of 'Tommy Emmanuel'?? I love that version!! If you like it, it'd be very cool if you'd show how to play part he does differently at the beggining. You might also want to check out the transition he makes after he played 'Windy and warm' and going into classical gas...it is really really nice!!! Lots of videos on youtube for that!
Awesome lesson! You are an amazing teacher, very succinct, yet generous and patient. I hope that you do make a few bucks from such an incredible pedagogic opus. Thanks
Hey Mike, Once again I have to say this idea of slowing down the song making it much easier to learn than reading tabs off the internet is fantastic. I was wondering though, if you could please play the song in full just so we can get an idea of the parts to come. Take your time, and no I am not trying to rush you.
Yay! I can play it! I have to say thankyou so much for putting the effort in with these videos, they are great and have got me crazed on my guitar again! My finger tips have had to harden all over again! Goodbye to long nails! At what guitar level would you place this piece if performed well?
Hey Mike, Let me add my 2 cents to say Thank-you. One of the few guitar pieces I have wanted to learn for a long time and you have made that possible. Best regards to you and yours with hope that life will yield to you more peace and solace through your friends and family. Cheers, Blues Doc
Thanks for posting these lessons, I've been so excited about learning this. So excited in fact that I've been playing till my fingers get sore...and then some!
Mike, I have struggled with my guitar for years wishing i could just play one song well. Tried all the books and was bored to tears. This is the first time I have been truly excited to practice.I am learning songs I like and I am making real progress with every session. Thank you Thank you
I think what you're doing is really great and I can't understand why some people are flat out trying to pressure you to hurry with the next lesson each time.....I mean after all, it's not costing them a dime.
Hey mike thanks alot, your website slowmo director has realy been a huge help! This is excellent, I know this might be pushing it but i am ready for the next lesson! KEEP IT COMMING!
every lesson is a joy to be able to get right Mike and so far so good, been looking forward to this,oh and if gchord is so durn good why does he need to watch your videos, cheers mate

If you're busy and just don't have time we'd understand. However we at the very least need some sort of idea as to a date when the final part is coming. Is it less than a week? Less than a month? Give us something. Please.

Your teaching method works really well...I feel like I'm ready to challenge Mason Williams to a dual. (at least 6/7 ready).
By the way, will you be playing the song from beginning to end so we can see how we're supposed to sound?
Thanks for your time....it's been a good ride.

noticed some of your videos are gone.... are you still going to be updating, more specifically are you going to finish the classical gas lessons?

you rock!!!!

Hi Mike: Thanks as before for a truly fantastic lesson. WIll you be posting the tef tabs on your website?
Waiting for the next lesson. Take your time - we'll all be here.

I think what you're doing is really great and I can't understand why some people are flat out trying to pressure you to hurry with the next lesson each time.....I mean after all, it's not costing them a dime.
