  • Baltimore, MD loves the Grateful Dead....

  • whether they were on or off, one thing the boys always were was Tasteful. that's ultimately what i need in music.

  • I have heard all sorts of Franklins ('75/'76,'77,'79 versions where Brent would be going crazy with experimental jams, and ones all throughout the '80s and early '90s) and I have to say that I think this one takes the cake. The only bad thing about it is the lack of a Help/Slip to go with it, but that wouldn't really fit Garcia's early Tiger sound anyway

  • No wonder the "Dead Heads" were so rabid. This is incredible live stuff. I got chills all over my body and felt renewed.

  • God save the child that rings that bell

It may have one good ring, baby, you can't tell

One watch by night, one watch by day

If you get confused listen to the music play.

  • I have seen all these Grateful Dead videos on youtube about 300,000 times but I can never stop watching them because there's nothing like seeing the Dead play.

  • @DrVonNostrand

    Stick to dermatology.

  • god i love that little smile jerry gets about 1:48

  • so moist

  • anybody elses face melt?

  • listening to this music is like ahhhh therapy, most of the time I feel stressed. I wish I could backwards in history maybe twenty years or so. the world sure isnt getting any kinder or maybe I am just waking up and its always been this way.

  • lol, forgot to say, I'm 58, born in '53

  • yeah, fuck me, been a while since I was here, but um, i so love me some dead, nothin comes into this mix, can't be nothin else, got to see tha dead, round about 95 or 96, in nawlins, and it was so awesome, there can be only one dead, right, lol...../wynn

  • About 10 blocks from here, I am lying in a crib and enjoying being 5 months old...

  • @Dirbyduckettmusic i think it was keith..not sure though

  • @Dirbyduckettmusic ..brent was on keyboard

  • At 1:45 you can see Jerry smile and you know he is having a ball!

  • they're magicians...

  • How could this NOT cheer you up?

  • What a jam-only the Grateful Dead-Jerry always played like he was performing for god=Somebody once said Jerry could play a sad song and it would have a touch of happiness or a happy song with a hint of sadness-Not sure what it was but it was magic......Las Vegas 94 I will never forget after they had left the stage the fans that were down in the festival seating still dancing and chanting for like an hour after the show ended-there was one dude holding up a large sign that said "SMILE" Perfect!!!

  • Cheers my friends from San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina!! Life is Greatful Dead in EEUU and Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota in Argentina... Love forever!

  • ...officially now my new favorite band 8D

  • GOOD STUFF!!!!

  • I WAS HERE IN RADIO CITY

THE BEST PLACE FOR A SHOW

  • Jerry's solos are hypnotic man...

  • my favorite thing about the dead is really evident in this clip, just a bunch of regular guys who loved to play music together, the rest is just nonsense.

  • Dammit! Why was I born after they broke up?!

    I wish I was there...

  • God I was in a bad mood.... about 3 minutes ago. ALL is good after one note. ;-)

  • @TacomaPaul Me too, sudden ridiculous happiness!

  • WTF does Slayer have to do with this? That's two different types of music. The Dead were the greatest and Slayer sucks. Longtime Deadhead, 30 yrs, miss Jerry, miss the band, miss it all.

  • could listen to this song a million times and not get sick of it!

  • Why these guys never toured with Slayer I'll never comprehend. Long Live the DEAD.

  • Good lord, Phil's bass playing is mind blowing! He, (not to mention pretty much the entire band), is such an innovator on his instrument.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Great sound quality for an older vid. Thanks for sharing!

  • damn it i miss those days............................ your right the Great Dead never needed a list to prove their value to the history of music. Screw VH1

  • Simply perfect..............

  • I'm thinking that as they slowly lower me into the ground, you can hear this playing through my caskets' walls.....long live the Dead............

  • May the four winds blow you home again, Jerry. Come back to us!

  • I climbed that tower a few times when listening to this, Come back Gerry!!

  • well according to vh1 beyonce and eminem belong on the top 100 artist of all time but the gratefull dead arent what a bunch of tools like there the most influential band besides the beatles

  • @phiscobiscuits15 Hmmm... Did Beyonce or Eminem ever sell out Madison Sq garden 3 nights in a row?? prob not. HOW ABOUT 10 NIGHTS IN A ROW!!! The only band to EVER do that and ever will are the GRATEFUL DEAD!! SCREW VH-1 and MTV. They are responsible for teh demise of the true "ARTIST"!

  • @DixieJukin the true artist will never die, they just wont be advertised on vh1 or mtv..

  • Heh. In the top 40 that week: Pat Benetar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Leo Sayer - More Than I Can Say, Air Supply - All Out Love, and at #1 Barbra Streisand - Woman In Love. Just for some perspective! Roll away the dew....

  • youtube.com/watch?v=imoaIaUE9io

  • This is one upbeat song Miss you JERRY

  • I thought this song was about jerry washing windows as a young guy

  • I'm one of the biggest Zeppelin fans around, but this is what pure American rock and roll is/would have/will always sound like.

  • Aww Jerry!!!

  • If you are a deadhead you may find it interesting to google "Franklin's Bells", a very interesting apparatus invented by Benjamin Franklin and possibly an inspiration for this particular song.

  • ALWAYS MAKES ME MOVE!

  • there are a few other songs from this night on YouTube, the boys were on this night, damn so good. Would have loved to be a tthis show.

  • Being a deadhead isn't just liking the music it's living the life of the dead and their music speaks to you.

  • SWEEEEEETTTTT!!!!

Jerry is in such fine fettle, fast-fingered, full force, flowing form, and that's only his pickin'! voluminous vocal virtuosity . . . sorry, don't know what got into me, but this vid sure made me happy. Thanks so much.

  • @bengreens Your comment made me happy!

  • Roll Away The Dew... I just want to thank all of you for all your Wonderful videos...

  • In a rare interview, Jerry said: "I hope to learn the guitar before I die." This is some of the finest guitar playing that I witnessed live. Straight from God!

  • Roll a J, or two :)

  • if you get confused, listen to the music play.

  • prolly my favorite Dead song of all time, now all I need is a hit of liquid, a pack of cigs, and 3 cases of brew

  • @frez777 Yes, exactly

  • @frez777 oh, 4 those daze! in that order & all that brew will go down so easily, like nothing. reverse that order, & look out! & yah, maybe my fave too. It's tuff, i like so many.

  • @connor2112 BE CAREFUL... you might NEVER come back!! LMAO!!

  • roll away the dew, my friends.

  • My roommate in college would sing along "roll away...with you" what a goof.

  • whoa looks like the rhythm devils were gettin warmed up at the end there

  • ahh yeah

  • these are my favorite years, 80, 81 and 82...they just really seemed to enjoy themselves :)

  • Great Grateful Dead ! Music & words to travel conscious and free !

  • Fuck the haters. If more people listened to this music the world would be infinitely better.

  • @quobcake there should not be a hate comment on this whole board i hope

  • @kochs1000 I'll make one hate comment...I hate the music being made now. Man, what happened?

  • The Dead rows me home

  • Roll away Roll away the Doobie

  • Who remembers all the great bootleg casettes back in the late 70's & 80,s.? I lost mine somewhere along that long strange trip that life has been..PEACE

  • @cocoalump dot-archive-dot-org/details/GratefulDead

  • I can't believe something this beautiful was even captured on film. I wanna cry!

  • So I go to Florida to see Furthur twice... drive 13 hours home to my dinky old nowhere town and crash the fuck out. I wake up to find a message from one of my buds who came with that .... Furthur is coming to my dinky old nowhere town..... I don't deserve this!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE BOBBY & PHIL!!!!

  • ..yea..harvest a little wind..Jerry is having a blast!

  • 20 years my friend.............

  • can anyone tell me what the difference between a Phish show and a Grateful Dead show would be? Now, please don't give me any hateful responses because I legitimately want to know, because I never got the chance to go to a Dead show (born too late) and I'm fixing to go to my first Phish concert in June. I realize that the music and the jams would be different, but I guess what I really want to know is how the feeling and vibe is different between each type of show.

  • @rosenfeld77

    The Grateful Dead say more than words can tell...I'd rather be Dead than Phishing (~);}

  • @rosenfeld77 better if u just go and find out.........its just a different generation, but damn i would give ANYTHING to see the Grateful Dead with Jerry. Thats no knock on phish.....Well maybe it is

  • I think half of these views are from me.

  • Jerry smiling and a shimmering tiger... is anything more inspirational? "God save the child that rings that bell" Furthur kicked ass 3/25/11-3/27/11... thanks Phil & Bobby, much love

  • @mcdstuff FUTHURFEST IS GONNA BE IN MY HOMETOWN THIS YEAR! I DONT HAVE TO GO TO SHIT ITS COMING TO ME!!! OMFG CAPS!

  • LOVE

  • but what happened at the end of this song? i was not there..i find it a little bit strange..could someone tell me that, who was there

  • those were the days, was at that whole week of dead shows , lost my voice ,bring me back

  • i think its possible, they had certainly not taken so much as you did, and they have another part, they made music which on they have to concentrate and you only listened to it

  • I will never understand how they did shows tripping!! I was never able to take anything seriously while tripping. I was usually tripping so hard at shows, the sounds melted together, so I couldn't make out the words ( I think they couldn't either, so they went into space!!!

There will never be anything remotely close to a Dead Show...... Those were the days!

  • @bonghitlover

probaly if you do it so much you build up tolerence

  • what happened at the end of thw video?where has jerry looked at?

  • I use to have the blue prints for a working time machine but the dog ate it! We miss you Jerry, Pigpen and Brent! Thanks for the memories!!!!

  • Anyone know how to build a time machine?

  • Best. Show. Ever. One of the perks of being old :-)

  • Love Bob's bobbin heads at 5:00

  • @catcaller1 That was the best part of seeing Bobby for the first time...taking pictures and little video snips of what I'd seen of him and then seeing it all play out...he hasn't changed! It was really so darn cool! I felt like it was like watching Bob at any point in time just because of the distinctive head movements! Crazy, cool, and lots of fun! Made it all the more special. Got to get pictures with him and Mark Karan. One of my favorite moments.

    rk

  • @catcaller1

    L.O.L.

Bob would always do that because he couldn't use his head at the time he wants to move his hair out of the way from the mike, plus he wanted to make his cut clear, after his singing part. It's hysterical, especially with his eyes bugged-out, at the time he sings his part. He does it the whole time he sings.

  • exceptional!!! i remember being at radio city for this tour, as a much younger women,

i knew that this was the best band in the world at the time of this show, i wa lucky enough to see them at radio city many times in my early 20"s. there is nothing comparable to this. i have tickets for the further show at radio city this month, and although i will have a good time, it's never going to be like this was. all i can say is that the music will live on, deb

  • 18 people need to get their ears checked!

  • @mcdstuff saw Furthur there 2/2010 was awesome!!

  • C'mon kids-- A magical roaming child of destiny is coming in this unfertile time of sand and stone and will "Ring the Bell". It is a wild flower child that is blessed and we know it, and those aware are watching night and day because of what he means and what light he will surely bring.

  • Wishes for the safe return home are there to the child. But most important- when the sunrise does FINALLY come from the dark time-- the light and heat evaporates the morning dew, and it "Rolls Away" and we will celebrate BIG TIME.
