I did something simular. Using 1/4 inch screw that fits tripod mount in the cam.
My bike is a dual sport so it has a motocross bar across the handle bars.
From the hardware store I purchased a lawn mower grip, (red) fits perfect no cutting or tapping and matches my red bike. From there I got pipe hanger clamp that has 1/4 inch screw hole where an all thread rod or bolt can screw into the top. I need a shorter bolt and tighten the clamp. I can leave the mount assemboled and just unscrew the cam
