The more I watch your series the more I admire your casual but most effective teaching method. I thought I had lost the links but now I found it and mark them all with 5 stars.
I hope you'll have DVDs or other training products to help players to improve their games.
i dont know why people are getting so exited with this serve but it just takes only a bit of practice, took me lyk minutes to figure out this serve. it took me longer to be able to control the lethal tomahawk
Whenever I try doing this serve, the ball ends up just bouncing to the right of the other side of the table. I'm using a cheap sportscraft racket right now. Should I use a different one for better spins?
It can be 'cause you are hitting the side of the ball not the bottom. Try to hit it "flatter" the bottom of the ball and with a linear followtrough or a bit upwards motion.
Thx, I's funny actually.... originally it had much better background sound before, however I had to change 'cause copyright issues... :S. I was lucky that I found something quite suitable sound at youtube's library...
@Cathaydude dude at the age of ten tht might look lyk a good serve but 4 years later yr gonna know tht the serve isnt very effective, well it can be effective at times but u can only use it once in a while. once yr tall enough to flick then its not so effective anymore, unless u use the sidespin-backspin serve.
@Cathaydude oh backspin? many beginners tend to serve with a chopping-like action, do you know kenta matsudaira? he's got a forehand serve which has a chopping action, its known as the tomahawk serve. its a good idea for beginners to develop a serve lyk his
@Cathaydude yea its a good serve for beginners to develop from, then try to do both side-spin and backspin serves from the chopping action. u might as well want to mix the spin so it becomes a side-spin-backspin serve. basically you should have 3-4 different serves from a similar action
i currently am using a cheap sportcraft xs and am looking for a better paddle. could anyone suggest any intermediate butterfly paddles that i could use that are between $20-$80? right now i am considering the Butterfly Arbalest, Butterfly Baselard, Butterfly Flail, Butterfly Ranseur, Butterfly Spatha, or Butterfly Trebuchet. can someone suggest a decent butterfly paddle? please respond.
if you can affor 80$ than I suggest go to a forum or any club and buy used equipment (a very common All+ or OFF- blade with commonly used rubbers) 'cause even a 6 month used competitive equipment is much better than a premade 60-80$ racket...
i.e: a primorac OFF- with sriver FX would cost about 120-140$ a new one, but a used one you can get around 80$...
@MrLUKZTER1995 I recomend the Killerspin jet 600 for an awesome tacky rubber for max spin, plus in your prics range. i have this paddle and it is the best ive used.
Cool. This serve is good.I usually do the Pendulum Serve.Gonna try this with my new DHS 4002 Hurricane III+G888.What is better?DHS Hurricane III or Butterfly Tenergy 05?Thanks
i did but it didnt reach the net Ma lin's one was like much more back spin the gap between the 1st bounce n 2nd bounce behind the net is longer. What should i do :(
Viszpi, Whenever i try to do that serve i always hit the ball to high, giving my opponent a chance to slam. Please tell me how i can make the ball go lower when i serve it like that. Thanks very much!
a little risky to compare your serves with Ma Lin's...but you did a nice job, this is a great video to learn the basics of table tennis serves...
if you let me, i'll give you a short tip: in another video, show also where the ball must hit the racket to add more or less spin (back, side or both spins), 'cause that makes a huge difference, you have to know it 'cause it seems you have great technique...
@darkblue84 Please do make a vid about that! Also, whenever i try to do that serve i always hit the ball to high, giving my opponent a chance to slam. Please tell me how i can make the ball go lower when i serve it like that. Thanks very much!
@alandmaulod Hi!! look, it's a little hard to explain that in a comment list jajajaj...but follow step by step the advices of viszpi....first of all, you have to get used to your equipment...a lot!! and then loose your racket, 'cause if you grabb it to hard, there's no way to do a short and low serve...
also, try to hit the ball the lowest high you can....never higher than the elbow 'cause if you do that there's almost imposibble to do a low serve. but, that brings us a problem....
the lower you hit the ball, there is more chances to make a long serve, so the objective of the serve is to make one with 2 bounces on the oponnent's side, one near the net and the other just in the bottom line to trick your oponnent and make him think there comes a long serve. He should try to make a top or loop and in the last moment he'll enter the table to pass the ball with a drop shot (who almost never keeps short) and then you can attack the third ball first...
@darkblue84 Wow.... Thanks so much!!! You really made my day! =D
By the way, im still a 12 year old child and i look at these serves to learn how to beat my dad(he's kinda good). I've played table tennis for about a year and a half, and i've had the same bat for one year. Is that enough getting used to the equipment? Once again, thanks for giving me all the information!!! =D
Try hitting only the "bottom" of the ball with racket aiming horizontally, that should make only backspin. The reason of getting sidespin can be caused by wrong rakcet angle, wrong hitting point at the ball, or wrong followtrough way (wrist and arm movement). I hope it helps...
The fact that you are using a shakehand grip makes learning a Ma Lin serve pointless. You're in fact just copying his Ghost serve. That service can be done in any grip. Ma Lin's serves are specifically trained for the Chinese Penholder. He also rarely uses Tenergy :P
The Tenergy is probably an added bonus to serving with that much spin.
@LookB3hindU He uses Chinese rubber from DHS Skyline 2 (Black in color) in competitions on front and Butterfly Bryce or Sriver on the back as we saw. He uses Yasaka blade: YEO or soft carbon. DHS is even more spinner than Butterfly.
@samsonwtl I was referring to the video guy not Ma Lin. DHS Skyline I believe has the same spin as Tenergy. It's got a harder feel than Tenergy though from what I've felt and heard from others blades. I heard that sometimes he'll use the Sriver FX topsheet with a bryce sponge or vice versa with the Bryce Speed top sheet and the sriver sponge. It's what Wang Hao also does.
in my work there is a boss that I can not win in ping pong. I need a technique to win. I'm just an amateur, and just play for fun. BUT I NEED TO WIIIIIN, TO CELEBRATE IN HIS FACE.
@TMTurbomasteRTM You can serve with both red and black hehe:D the rubber are same just different colour, or some say that the black site are a little more sticky.
You know what I hate about this serve? The ball too high, whenever I play with my friend, they keeping shooting me! :(
