Foley had her successes -- and after her work with Meatloaf and Hunter, she is undeniably a great singer -- but, in relation to her talent, she is one of the unsung heroes of the New Wave. And her album Spirit of St. Louis, and song Sons of Europe, are forgotten gems.
I honestly think this performance right here is where Rock and Roll, as we used to know it, PEAKED. OMG, from then on: tattooed lil boyz playing synthesizers-(c)rap-"hair metal"- Garth Brooks...THANK YOU PikkaB
I can't think of many male artists who made good use of the eighties zeitgeist, the spirit and vibes of the eighties. He makes it so appealing. I almost physically hurt with nostalgia.
Ian is cool as f***! The Hoople should have done more Stateside! Sometimes Americans don't really get English stuff, but cheers to those of you from America who do! That said, this tune is good, but production values spell 1980 a little too obviously!
In case you don't know, the woman is Ellen Foley who did the female part in Paradise by the Dashboard Light with Meat Loaf and who was the first female prosecutor on the television sitcom Night Court.
How I still remember this stuff given the stuff to which I've subjected my brain is beyond me.
Ugly??? Never found Ian ugly...actually the curls and the mouth rather sent me. He had/has a great smile, especially for an Englishman. His mates... don't know what bands you have seen, but guess you don't know what Motorhead looks like... now THAT's UGLY
Ellen Foley is one of the Goddesses of 1970's rock and roll. Hotter than Karla DeVito. The line about watching the Muhammad Ali vs. Marlene Dietrich fight still cracks me up.
I think this is a performance from the TV show 'Fridays' on May 7, 1980. I remember watching it and then running out to buy Ian Hunter Live/Welcome to the Club. Reminds me of a time when music was great.
Ellen Foley looked good until she cut her hair for "Night Court" with made her look dorky. I got her album, and like her version of Jagger-Richards "Stupid girl"
Her version of "Stupid Girl" rocks more than any other. Even the Stones'. I lost that album in a divorce. Hang on to it and treasure it. It absolutely rocked. I wish I could find it again. I envy you.
Ellen had a real cool song called "Young Lust" back then...check it out.

Hunter & Ronson made some cool things together , but thisis a bloody racket.

Nice to see though.

Hunter is great! For what it's worth, Ellen Foley was
the original singer with Meatloaf on Paradise by the
Dashboard Light, she went on in the 80's on TV's
Night Court as Billie, before Markie Post.
