  • Ellen had a real cool song called "Young Lust" back then...check it out.

  • KING OF THE BALLADS

  • Whoever posted this, thanks! I remember seeing this on its original airing, but my memory had wrongly attributed this to a different show.

  • shambles a bit.. but i remember seeing this the night it originally aired and buying the Live lp the next day

  • Foley had her successes -- and after her work with Meatloaf and Hunter, she is undeniably a great singer -- but, in relation to her talent, she is one of the unsung heroes of the New Wave. And her album Spirit of St. Louis, and song Sons of Europe, are forgotten gems.

  • Oops, the song was The Shuttered Palace. (And I had just finished listening to it. Sheeesh!)

  • The first Ian Hunter song I ever heard. Been a fan ever since.

  • God bless ya, Ronno.

  • love the clothes, the guitars!

  • I remember the first time I saw this on "Fridays"- with a few beers from my Dad's PBR stash. Great times!

  • This "critter" woman?

  • Ronson's so wicked.

  • I honestly think this performance right here is where Rock and Roll, as we used to know it, PEAKED. OMG, from then on: tattooed lil boyz playing synthesizers-(c)rap-"hair metal"- Garth Brooks...THANK YOU PikkaB

  • Greatest live album! Thanks for sharing!

  • are there any videos, withe ellen and the clash?

  • Hunter & Ronson made some cool things together , but thisis a bloody racket.

Even Ellen Foley couldn't save this from mediocracy.

    Nice to see though.

  • the entire band from the legendary Cleveland Agora concert except Hilly on drums--

    Ellen is soooooo cute/hot

  • Choon. nuff said.

  • wow...never thought there would be video of this...Ellen Foley and Mick...joy!

  • brings back old old memories:))) thanks for posting!

  • viewing this video was one of the three greatest moments of 1980. God Bless Ian, Mick, and Ellen (and the whole band!)

  • If Ian took off the shades and walked down the street,no one would know who he was, lol.

  • Looks like a remake of Paradise of the dashboard.

  • Hear is another one of my favorite Ian Hunter songs.

  • Lol! One the GREAT anti-disco songs! Ian Hunter and Ellen Foley: for my money, it doesn't get any better than that.

  • That was fantastic but Ian didnt act like he knew she was there! Hilarious!

  • Awesome. Simply awesome RnR!!!!!!

  • @crapple009 now this, this is rock n roll my friend.

  • @AHandsomeman It sure is and aren't we ever so lucky to have had it. Hunter/Ronson band rocks!!

  • Whatt're we gonna do, go home and watch reruns of the Muhhamed Ali - Marlene Dietrich fight?

  • Remember Elen on Night Court? Post Meat Loaf Paradise by the Dashboard Light!!!

  • WOW good call!

  • @whynot280 Exactly- she replaced Markie Post.

  • @crapple009

    wrong---Markie replaced her

  • @theuncletodd Many thanks for the correction- had always thought it was the other way around.

  • Que pena que Ellen Foley no tuviese el exito que se merecia.

  • this brings back good memories, ellen foley, mick ronson and ian hunter..it seems like yesterday

  • She was the original defense attorney on night court too.

I love the line about what do you want to do? Watch the rerun of the Mummad Ali Marlena Dietrich fight?

    ha ha

  • Ellen, THE voice of Paradise by the Dashboard Light

  • I've always liked this song. When I really wanted to be in a band, this was one of the songs I most wanted to cover.

  • I can't think of many male artists who made good use of the eighties zeitgeist, the spirit and vibes of the eighties. He makes it so appealing. I almost physically hurt with nostalgia.

  • oh yeah so what about that 80's zeitgeist anyways? sure beats the zeitgeist of my bathroom presently.

  • the best there could ever be . the original shit!

  • Oh, brings back memories. Tom Jackson, Tommy, Carol, Joanne, etc, different time....

Just to return to that time.....

  • Ian is cool as f***! The Hoople should have done more Stateside! Sometimes Americans don't really get English stuff, but cheers to those of you from America who do! That said, this tune is good, but production values spell 1980 a little too obviously!

  • she sings well

  • I saw this performance when it first aired, although I forget where. Maybe on "Fridays"? After all it's been 28 years.

  • @Pbirv

Yes, it was "Fridays." I was a regular "extra" on that show, and was in the audience on this one.

  • Apparantely he doesn't wanna dance.

Allright, man, don't worry about it. No need to shout at me. Holy shit, man...

    This is pretty cool, though.

  • This song was near and dear to my heart in my youth. Like Ian, I detested the dance club scene and dance music in general.

  • ian hunter is god Binni from iceland

  • I A N H U N T E R R O C K S ! ! ! ! !

  • This was the only song I'd ever play off of Up The Academy.

    I love this song!!

  • In case you don't know, the woman is Ellen Foley who did the female part in Paradise by the Dashboard Light with Meat Loaf and who was the first female prosecutor on the television sitcom Night Court.

How I still remember this stuff given the stuff to which I've subjected my brain is beyond me.

  • one of the few rock bands that rivaled the Stones in pure brute ugliness. No pretty boys.

    CELTIC #1

  • The Ramones were all ugly. Far uglier than Ian and his mates.

  • Ugly??? Never found Ian ugly...actually the curls and the mouth rather sent me. He had/has a great smile, especially for an Englishman. His mates... don't know what bands you have seen, but guess you don't know what Motorhead looks like... now THAT's UGLY

  • ...with Martin Briley on bass?

    "Salt In My Tears?"

  • Comment removed

  • The song: Pins and Needles, who is he singing about?

  • Not sure about "Pins and Needles"..... But "Silver Needles" was about Sid Vicious.

  • Pins And Needles, aka, Jackie DeShannon, The Ramones, and The Searchers..

  • For the record, that would be "Needles and Pins."

  • pretty good so many years in so different moods

  • Great Video - Hunter Rocks!!

  • Ian Hunter's on tour again! Check him out if he's coming to your town! I'm going to see him at the Key Club in Hollywood in two weeks!

  • This was Fridays I loved Ellen Foley fromMeat Loaf Stuff!!!

  • this song is about the legendary Studio 54...

  • Good clip and a nice perfomance by IAN HUNTER and friends.

  • Wow what a tremendous clip, thanks for sharing, Ian

Hunter is great! For what it's worth, Ellen Foley was

the original singer with Meatloaf on Paradise by the

Dashboard Light, she went on in the 80's on TV's

Night Court as Billie, before Markie Post.

  • Thanks for the trivia...I was wondering where I'd seen her before :)

  • Ellen Foley is one of the Goddesses of 1970's rock and roll. Hotter than Karla DeVito. The line about watching the Muhammad Ali vs. Marlene Dietrich fight still cracks me up.

  • I think this is a performance from the TV show 'Fridays' on May 7, 1980. I remember watching it and then running out to buy Ian Hunter Live/Welcome to the Club. Reminds me of a time when music was great.

  • just a little trivia...this song is supposedly about STUDIO 54...

  • Mick Ronson a guitar GOD!!! Ian Hunter is a talented dude. they rocked together.

  • brilliant absofeckinlutely brilliant

  • Ian Hunter is GOD!!!

  • dont believe me...watch strings

  • the greatest live performer ever to come out of great britain

  • ian if you are reading welcome to sunny blackpool

  • I used to do her fan club here in England from 1981 to 1984. What was I thinking?

  • Ellen Foley? I always liked her voice. What happend to her? How was she as a person? Thanks.

  • She was great on and off the stage. I went out with her for a while in 1985. She got married and raised a family. She continues to perform.

  • Ellen Foley looked good until she cut her hair for "Night Court" with made her look dorky. I got her album, and like her version of Jagger-Richards "Stupid girl"

I wish I had the vid to that song.

  • Her version of "Stupid Girl" rocks more than any other. Even the Stones'. I lost that album in a divorce. Hang on to it and treasure it. It absolutely rocked. I wish I could find it again. I envy you.

  • Great Mick Ronson in the background!

  • Mick was a god...the way he threw riffs in btw chords...
