With the exception of a couple jokes that fell flat, the movie was refreshing and quirky. The material was integrated into the adventure story well, and the characters where all terrific. This isn't be everyones cup of tea, but I recon, in a few years this film will share the same fate as FearandLoathing. Initially dismissed by critics who are disorientated from living in a media whirlwind, but picked up and enjoyed movie lovers who don't need to use a blockbuster as a point of reference

I thought the man who stares at goats is a different type of movie, which is really refreshing. I don't wonna see all the time typical genre-movies. So I'm happy that you can't say after the first 5 minutes, ohh it's a comedy, or it's political or whatever. It's a good movie if you let yourself go and maybe be slightly stoned.

100% with you on this one, I think it's a refreshing laid-back movie with good jokes every now and then, doesn't commit to one genre, never pushes the concept too far and keeps it realistic as well as imaginative, and even though it never really goes anywhere,it's a nice journey that mixes well with some weed.

To me this movie is the perfect definition of a relaxed afternoon at home with your friends.

@PollockQT, I actually liked it better than 2012, I think I saw them on the same day even. Is a High School version of Apocalipse Now. Minus the violence and greater drug trip of the later one. I liked how it touched on the issues of the Gulf War, the LSD induced ending is satirically beautiful, as McGregor's character helps free the Iraqui POWs being used as as subjects for the experiments. Oh, yeah him flying through the wall is priceless, I k=laughted so hard at at that scene.

McGregor was horribly miscast as he struggled with his "American" accent. Are American Hollywood actors so scarce that they need to have a Brti act as an American? Clooney was brilliant and Bridges was pretty good. No need to pay Spacey his kind of money for such a small part, unless he did it for scale, which I doubt. I liked the film. Made me laugh and was good to see an attempt at writing instead of just typing.

There is an anime movie out there that dose the same thing with Russia during WWII. 1/3 of the move was "real" Russian veterans and historians talk about a physic solder project, and people connected to it. 2/3 of it was animated story following their only remaining physic solder as she is hunted down by the SS and then travels to the world of the dead to gather her dead comrades to fight off a long dead enemy of Russia so that the Germans don't win a important battle.

Men Who Stare at Goats was probably a very good movie in the screenwriter's original form. It's just when studios buy the script, the Jr Execs need to go in there and butcher everything to justify their big paychecks. Back in 2000, I knew a guy who fervently believed that in 2012, there was going to be a polar axis shift and that life as we know it would end. He not only wrote books about it, he had bought property in the middle of no-where and was stockpiling everything under the sun. At the time, he seemed so fringe. It's amazing to me that his theories became so mainstream as to be turned into a Hollywood movie.
