I've seen the Nutcracker ever since I was 5 years old. It just never gets old. When the christmas tree begins to grow I still get the chills.

@Quackers123456789 I saw that,the SF production has hardly any dancing until the mice come in-its tedious.I think that the Royal Ballet do a great job,I think the viewers of the Ovation channel thought so too as they voted this one to be the best.

@animemusicmonklover in this version he is her godfather, whose nephew is the nutcracker, so he puts the spell on her to shrink her down to toy size etc....because he believes she is good enough etc to love his nephew and to help break the spell of the rat king...so he probably does love her, but in a platonic, fatherly way!

Unfortunately they removed the London-performance from earlier years that had perfect musical drive and choreography of Act 1 Scene 4.

The scene from 2:46 til 6:05 to me is the musical and choreographical Nutcracker-highlight. Before and after that sequence the musical building up and choreogr. is rather lengthy and corny or should I say e.t.a-hoffmannesque and Tschaikowsky was right in not being completely content with this. But 'Nutcracker' is one of his best operas if not the best.
