I've tried to play ss2 on my PC which is mentally old(2008 i bring some hardware for PC) and yea i had some problems with inventory and i couldn't hack doors and gameplay was weird ...
@norchaaa get the latest ss2 mod manager.... in the tools option of the manager there is an option to fix the inventory bug... had the same problem.... but now it works extremely well... :D
just came back here because I have been playing deus ex human revolution. Anyone else think the ambient noise of the woman screaming in detroit sound the same as the one running from the hybrid?
I played SS2 with the original graphics and with the mods, and it doesn't really make the game better. I still like the mods though, and play with them, it makes it look a lot better. The music in this game is so good. GT's!
My game crashes with mods and i dont know why :(. I like it but i would like to use that high res and high poly mod but it crashes. I used SS2Tool but nothing helps. I can start the game but as soon as i exit 1st room it crashes.Can anyone help ?

Official patch 2.03. 3. fix for work on Win XP. 4. fix for work on multi-core CPU. 5. texture memory fix to get rid of "Direct 3D device" error. 6. fix for "EAX sound output" error. 7. fix for "not enought free memory on HDD". 8. video-fix for not working videos in the game. 9. fix for "game crashes on deck 3".
p.s. Try to google "Dark Fate Team SS2 complex patch" or smtn like that.

Personally, I think the old graphics made the game a lot more frightening, due to the fact that it gives the game a bizarre (almost diturbing) surreal quality.

@1GameAsylum yes it would freak the fuck out of you, remember resident evil 1? yea that used to make people not able to go sleep at night. Look at it like this if you know or have played amnesia the dark descent or the penumbra series then you know how scary they are, well that how people felt about system shock or the early resident evil's. (btw graphics like system shocks were not ground breaking but they were convincing, and in the early 90's doom and wolfenstein were super relistic lol)
The Rebirth models just suck. They don't follow the original designs in any way, and look very... doll-like and unfitting. They don't show it here, but especially the Mid-Wife cyborgs are just hilarious with the mod.
What they need to mod is the shitty rpg-wannabee mechanics. My guy's been in the military for 3 years and still can't equip a fucking assault rifle? The guy in SS1 was just some random hacker and even HE could use any weapon he found on the ground. I guess it doesn't really matter since every gun breaks in two fucking shots.
Also that hacking/repair/upgrade minigame is the worst thing ever.
@ActionCarl Actually on the official Irrational Games websites it says the developers were thinking of putting an audio log that said that The Many put a special corrosive gas on the ship that degraded weapons! The developers say that they could have got rid of 80% of the complaints on that weapons system if they did that. I can't post the link because the comment can't be posted if I do that.

I think System shock 2 could benefit from increasing the texture res (not making new ones just bumping the engine up a little bit) and adding some sort of dynamic lighting. when you actually start to replace things in game exist you begin to ruin what makes the game a classic.

You're right, it doesn't look any different. Because it's not supposed to. Those mods are just there to make the textures a little sharper so you can see what's in front of you more clearly.
I've always enjoyed the game...but I don't think it really matters about the graphics. I downloaded the updated graphics and it's still as scary as it was before.
You can actually do even more to update the graphics for old games there are programs that allow you to import new textures into the game without changing anything else. People have done this with other games like Halo CE.

@Deathshuck Exactly, the things you can't see in a horror movie are far scarier then those you do see. The same way that hearing a sound come from behind you, seeing the silhouette of something means you don't need much detail to bring about a strong emotion.
The rebirth mod makes the hybrids look... Pretty stupid actually. They simply don't look as scary as they used to. Now they just look like generic horror movie monsters.
Does the MOD improve the sound some? I noticed new sounds in the Rebirth mod that did not exist in the original footage. I played it with Rebirth, so I wouldn't know the difference. However, I'm going to say, zombie heads were MUCH cooler in the original...
@VirtualSamadhi Rebirth pretty much ruins the atmosphere of the original. Everything just looks so... Generic with it. I recommend SHTUP though, as it just sharpens the original textures.
In my humble opinion, System Shock 2 is PERFECT the way it already is. I appreciate what the mod creators are trying to do, perhaps make the game more appealing to the newest generation of gamers, but honestly, if anyone gets this running, plays for a while and decides to quit because "LOL GRAPHIX SUX!1!1" they are unworthy of experiencing this masterpiece. And possibly also unworthy of their own organs.

By far the best survival horror game ever made and that can only be understood by playing it yourself. Bioshock is a disgrace for not only stealing it's thunder, but preventing the creation of a System Shock 3.
@Reptiloid87 Dude, the bad graphics were something that was distracting to me before I used these mods, (in fact the first time I saw a living human being I thought they were a mutant), but mods like this help people get more "Immersed" in the game. (Also the weapons degradation system was awesome, and allowed for some pretty tense moments when a gun jammed, weapons often seemed to degrade "too quickly".) But other than that, it is a perfect game.

@Reptiloid87 I played it literally over a fifty times over the years, last time 2 years ago or so. But honestly, I´d love to see a 1 on 1 remake with todays graphics. Not adding or modifying gameplay, just 1 on 1. The highest texture reso´s known to man, insane tesselation, bulletphysics only seen in games like Armed Assault, the works. @ruzzzler I wouldn't use the Rebirth mod as the models are absolutely horrible. They are detailed, but their expression is lost and they look deformed. The original has a more simple and sturdy look to it and the original textures for faces gave the hybrids more of an expression of terror in their eyes at what they have to experience.
@ruzzzler Of course I don't want to make it seem that remaking them isn't possible, I'm just saying if you're going to remake something, keep in mind the original idea of every element. Keep a good look at their expression as well as physic. A lot of the crew are very slender and clean (Star Trek would be a very good reference for real life models as they have the same uniform idea). Not to mention the original monster's expressions as well. The people aren't dead, they're self aware puppets.
I find it more scary with the original models, im like, WTF is that shit?!, i recommend playing only with the sounds Upgrade, i played it that way and i loved it.
Everyone keep saying this game is great, but play it again, from the start, and it'll shit down your throat. Infinitely spawning enemies, confusing maps and lack of direction. Basically you wonder around while a stream of enemies chase you around as you spend hours trying to get past the levels. The stats/perks system is useless and extremely flawed. This game SUCKSSSS.
@cheesyflames I've just started playing the game for the first time two days ago, and I have YET to find any flaws within the game design. Every other person that I've seen complain about the spawning enemies, "endless levels", and the stats system are people who do not have the mental capacity to think about how something should be done. This game, to me, involves a lot of exploring and looking around. Listen to the audio logs. They help plenty.

I dont know if its because my weak english or my bad computer skills.

@Zemon95 Did you set your affinity to a single core? Open up SS2 then open up your task manager, right click on ,the process and set it to only 1 core.
@cheesyflames Yes i have done that to. Even worse, now i have a problem with installing the game, when i play install it just freezelags for about 20-30 seconds then it closes down to my deskop.

Well during monster sighting or fight's the static in the backgroung is gone, but with the voice acting seems a little shaky still. But overall a good mod to have.

I just got this with the Rebirth mod, along with loads of other expansions/mods (which I havent tried, apart from rebirth obviously) and Im loving it. Im ashamed I haven't played this game sooner, oh well.. only 11 years late. lol It's a great great game I highly recommend it if you like Bioshock. In fact I'd say it's essential game to play for any self respecting gamer.
The Rebirth mod seems to make them look like stubby dwarfs (in other words HORRIBLE!) don't bother. High rez textures (fine) keep. Sounds makes it better in a claustrophobic environment (MUCH BETTER!) keep.
i busted this game out of a dusty drawer not long ago and played it on my 5 year old notebook... ran perfectly on the highest graphics setting--i had to smile :D --and was by far the best gaming experience ive ever had!

I am currently playing this game and I seriously tink its the best game ever made. It has so much depth and choice and atmosphere - I now know why people put this above bioshock. An incredible piece of work
if anyone is playing for the first time i recommend NOT playing with these graphic mods. the models with the rebirth mod are much less scary anyway! stick to the original.
I recently got SS2 running on Win7, with both the texture upgrade and the Rebirth mod. Also the patch that makes the game widescreen. Sweet! it took some work, but not nearly as much as it took for XP.
Perhaps it's just due to the quality of this compressed Youtube video but, the differences are not exactly what you'd call Night-and-day. In fact, they seem downright negligible.

@Skinnyoompalumpa I believe he was referring to the fact that most kids today have probably grown up with the more 'modern' looking graphics of today, and therefore probably don't appreciate the great older games that look very primitive by comparison. Thus, they miss out on fun games, just because they don't like the old-looking graphics.

@Reptiloid87 I played it literally over a fifty times over the years, last time 2 years ago or so. But honestly, I´d love to see a 1 on 1 remake with todays graphics. Not adding or modifying gameplay, just 1 on 1. The highest texture reso´s known to man, insane tesselation, bulletphysics only seen in games like Armed Assault, the works. Gives me a stiffy just thinking about it.

@Reptiloid87 Yeah, but you know that System Shack 2 actually has an error in the code that makes the polygon count lower than the devs intended, meaning the game was a bit ugly, even at the time.

@ruzzzler I wouldn't use the Rebirth mod as the models are absolutely horrible. They are detailed, but their expression is lost and they look deformed. The original has a more simple and sturdy look to it and the original textures for faces gave the hybrids more of an expression of terror in their eyes at what they have to experience.

@ruzzzler Of course I don't want to make it seem that remaking them isn't possible, I'm just saying if you're going to remake something, keep in mind the original idea of every element. Keep a good look at their expression as well as physic. A lot of the crew are very slender and clean (Star Trek would be a very good reference for real life models as they have the same uniform idea). Not to mention the original monster's expressions as well. The people aren't dead, they're self aware puppets.

Everyone keep saying this game is great, but play it again, from the start, and it'll shit down your throat. Infinitely spawning enemies, confusing maps and lack of direction. Basically you wonder around while a stream of enemies chase you around as you spend hours trying to get past the levels. The stats/perks system is useless and extremely flawed. This game SUCKSSSS.

@cheesyflames I've just started playing the game for the first time two days ago, and I have YET to find any flaws within the game design. Every other person that I've seen complain about the spawning enemies, "endless levels", and the stats system are people who do not have the mental capacity to think about how something should be done. This game, to me, involves a lot of exploring and looking around. Listen to the audio logs. They help plenty.

I love system shock, and i always wanted to try mods
But i always fail, even though i follow the instructions carefully on all fameous modding downloading site with modmananger and the other system shock tool.
I dont know if its because my weak english or my bad computer skills.
If somebody please could do a video / anything that made me understand how to step by step installing the mods that would mean the world to me, since system shock is one of the best games ever. Plz & thanks hopefully

@cheesyflames Yes i have done that to. Even worse, now i have a problem with installing the game, when i play install it just freezelags for about 20-30 seconds then it closes down to my deskop.

Well during monster sighting or fight's the static in the backgroung is gone, but with the voice acting seems a little shaky still. But overall a good mod to have.

I just got this with the Rebirth mod, along with loads of other expansions/mods (which I havent tried, apart from rebirth obviously) and Im loving it. Im ashamed I haven't played this game sooner, oh well.. only 11 years late. lol It's a great great game I highly recommend it if you like Bioshock. In fact I'd say it's essential game to play for any self respecting gamer.

The Rebirth mod seems to make them look like stubby dwarfs (in other words HORRIBLE!) don't bother. High rez textures (fine) keep. Sounds makes it better in a claustrophobic environment (MUCH BETTER!) keep.

i busted this game out of a dusty drawer not long ago and played it on my 5 year old notebook... ran perfectly on the highest graphics setting--i had to smile :D --and was by far the best gaming experience ive ever had!

I recently got SS2 running on Win7, with both the texture upgrade and the Rebirth mod. Also the patch that makes the game widescreen. Sweet! it took some work, but not nearly as much as it took for XP.

Thus, they miss out on fun games, just because they don't like the old-looking graphics.
