dubai mall is a ripp off, i have no idea when you said that the same price as usa, not even closed, i took one day to compare prices with UK and portugal and USA, and the price of nerly everything was around 50% to 60% more, so i have no idea what did you buy there to say its the same price, shops in dubai mall are for 2500,000 aed per year rent, thats the reason they overpriced everything.

@Loathomar While what you said was spot on it is very very misleading. I strongly suggest you read about how the UAE operates which emirate gets most the oil. UAE consists of 7 emirates they are all ruled by a federal government in Abu Dhabi but each and everyone of them gets to keep whatever trade and economic gains they make. 85% of the oil rev goes to Abu Dhabi dubai and the rest of the emirates get scraps that would barely build a tiny town not a huge city like dubai.

@Munty102 Most, if not all, of the major construction projects where either partly or whole funded by the government. The built the city mostly in the last 10 years and it is a complete flop. The Burj Khalifa tower is a good example, after almost a year only 8% of the apartments are filled, and that is after dropping the price by 40%. But really, there is the important fact that 71% of the emirate's total population are expatriate. The emirate is far more Asian then Arab.

It is an interesting idea, fund the building of a city with oil, drop taxes to 0% to bring in foreign companies. Then bring in foreign workers to work at the foreign companies. Then say "Look at what Arabs can do", which is really only use oil to help build a city for non-Arabs who don't pay taxes. The emirate has only a 26% Arabic population.

I didn't know much about Dhabi before today, it was interesting to find this out.
