  • Great song, but Bonnie Raitt's version trumps all. Ray Charles' is pretty great, too.

  • Written by Kin Vassy.

First released by Lee Greenwood in 1971. Also released by Ray Charles, Dion Warwick, David Cassidy, Ronnie Stoots in 1972. It was on Bobby's Motown Album titled Bobby Darin and was released in August of 1972.

  • It's his advanced heart condition that affected his voice this way. I have seen it before. Believe me, the man was in pain

  • yes this doesn't sound like Bobby Darin at all. A poor imitation I believe.

  • Kin Vassy wrote this incredible song. That's the reason I even listened to it for the first time years ago!

  • I love how different his voice sounds on this recording. I love all Bobby Darin, I would love to buy a recording of this but am having a very hard time finding it. Does anyone know if it is still in circulation? any tips would be much appreciated, thanks!

  • Regarding whose version is "the best", has everyone checked out David Cassidy's? I can't imagine any one else having the same vocal power, but I'm willing to hear suggestions and will certainly check them out.

  • The intensity of Darin´s performing reminds me on John Lennon and other great performers. Darin for me was one of the best in this world.

  • this is not bobby darin, trust me i'm a record collector

  • @TheNeonTide This is Bobby Darin, trust me, I am a Bobby Darin expert and own the original album that this comes from "Bobby Darin" (1972).

  • @darinworld NOT DARIN!!!

  • No one does this better than Jane Olivor.

  • why cant i find bonnie raitts wonderful version....sarah

  • Dionne Warwick also recorded this tune on her Warner Bros. debut LP in '72 also..this must've been a popular song circulating in the early '70s throughout record companies for their artists to record...Dionne's version is more piano and violin based...

  • Nice version, still pales in comparison to Bonnie Raitt. Great vocal and great arrangement.

  • thanks for posting this, is this a live version or alternate cut? i ask because i believe the version of Darin's i've heard is different.. i know he adds a 'mama' to the break, and doesn't do quite as many 'without you's at the end. thanks for being back, darinworld!

  • Oh and it was released in 1972 on his last album before his death....

  • Yeah It is written by K. Vassy The Arrangement was by M. O'Martian and is published through Quill Music....I have this Motown Album and I wish they would release it on cd....the whole album is good!!!

  • bobby's version is good but david cassidy's still kicks ass

  • Cool picture of Bobby playing baseball!

  • Wherefrom can I be sure that it is really from Bobby Darin?

  • Well, I am a Bobby Darin expert- so take it from me!

  • It's on the 'Bobby Darin' album released on the Motown label.

  • Kin Vassey wrote this song.

  • I don't want to be a cynic but this doesn't sound at all like BD.

  • It's not on YouTube but in 1976 a really great version of this song was done by cabaret singer Jane Olivor. Her rich voice strikes an emotional chord that neither Bobby Darin nor David Cassidy can touch. Sorry guys, but even with over-production (in David's case) this is a song that the listener should FEEL and you just don't deliver..

  • There's also a great version of this by Dionne Warwick on her album DIONNE. One of the best non-Bacharach songs she ever recorded.

  • Amazing!

    Thanks for posting =D

  • Admittedly it's not Bobby's strongest song, but then, I'm not a ballad guy. On the other hand, a perfect Darin try at something different. And as for David Cassidy ... nice 70s dude, but he couldn't hold a candle to BD.

  • Sorry I think David Cassidy's version is way better :-) But interesting to hear this one. Thanks for posting.

  • A quick search says it was written by Kin Vassy. It was also recorded in '74,I believe, by David Cassidy. It is on Youtube. Also done by Bonnie Raitt. Thanks for posting anything by BD. Love him, love his music, love his message. I will never get enough.

    Carol
