  • Bill Maher is not an atheist. He's an agnostic.

Not that that's relevant in this case. He does not say anything about atheism or agnosticism in this clip. For all we know, he could believe in some sort of god or diety. Believing in a god and being religious are very different things. The latter not only believes in a god, he even thinks he knows the will of this god. Anyone who makes such a claim is a lying piece of scum and nobody should believe anything he or she says, ever.

  • Gooooo! Bill don't listen to all the rude douches and I'm not saying all Christians just douches

  • It takes true faith to believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn. Because not only do you have to believe it exists, you have to believe it's pink despite the fact that it's invisible.

  • So Bill hopes Obama is lying about te christian faith?Well,I hope he's lying in regards to his stance on 9/11---

  • Bill is delusional if he thinks this. Bill's got some extreme views and it makes me a little uneasy sometimes.

  • @teahouse100 Extreme? Actually, believing in an all powerful sky daddy that can hear everbody mumor at the same time is extreme. I think Obama's more of a cultural christian than an actual zombie sky worshipper.

  • @agent1180

I'm just saying Bill is typically offensive without proving a point. People have different world views, that's the beauty in being unique. Bill has a very narrow definition of what constitutes a "real" belief.

About 90 % of the world maintains a belief in a God, and according to Bill they all suffer from a "disorder".

I think Bill is plugging for the pharmaceutical companies because that is a lot of drugs.

  • @teahouse100 It's actually lower than 90%. It's no longer 90% in the U.S. and it's less than 50% in most of Eastern Europe. Either way, might doesn't make right and Bill is totally correct about this. The majority of Americans once believed in slavery (which is accepted in the bible) for years. Were they right because a majority believed? "Really" believing in utter nonsense should be mocked. I find it offensive that the religious knock on my door Saturday morings urging me to join their cult.

  • @agent1180

I'm sorry but slavery isn't a "belief" - its a labour practice that was used during biblical times. It was Christian initiatives that emancipated the slaves in the first place. American Christians (incl. William Wilberforce) and missionaries abroad in Britain spearheaded the political/social campaign that abolished slavery. They also fought for better worker rights and animal rights (founding the RSPC and the first animal shelters).

  • @agent1180

Eastern Europe including what? Not Poland. Not Russia. Both are very religious despite being ruled by anti-religion communist regimes in recent history.

What about China? The world's largest population, a rising super power, and an official "atheist" state - but where Christianity is spreading at unprecedented rates.

America's Christian culture is in slow decline - but culture in general is degenerating in America thanks to t.v., fast food, and rabid materialism.

  • @teahouse100 Sweden and all the other eastern euro nations.Throw in Australia who have an atheist Prime Minister. For a modern nation, we're trying to be more like middle eastern nations and turn the clock back to the bronze age.China is an atheist state which means if 10 people convert to christianity that would be an unprecendeted rate. When the few Chinese find out that religion brings nothing but guilt, mental slavery and the rationalization of nonsense, they'll be dumping it with the quickness

  • @agent1180

    @agent1180

You're right, Scandinavian countries like Sweden are quite secular and have been this way since the 90's.

But along with religion, the majority of Swedes also reject the institution of marriage (typically reinforced by religious values). Most children are born out of wedlock and the idea of the family doesn't really exist there anymore. Cohabitant parents don't really stay together and tend to have multiple partners.

  • @agent1180 Adding on to what teahouse is saying. [Denmark MOST especially] Those are your "utopia" "ideal" socialist, atheist, extremely liberal countries. You like those? Legalized there, JUST along with homosexual marriage: incest, bestiality, possession of child pornography. The courts are so liberal that pedophiles get no punishment. I'm not trying to fight, just trying to make the point that atheism/liberalism does NOT go hand in hand with progress. Unless you think Communism is progress...

  • @THEGLASSOFMILK2 Gay marriage should be legal. Child molestation IS NOT LEGAL. Pedophiles do get punishment and none of that nonsense has nothing to do with atheism. Those countries are morally superior to religious nations like any country in the middle east where men can marry kids, rape is accepted, beating women is encouraged, killing people for not believing in you fairytale is accepted. NOTHING in religion is about progress. It's about dragging people back into the dark ages.

  • @agent1180 No, incest, bestiality and --possession-- of child porn are. That is NOT what I would call moral superiority. And I agree about Islam nations.

  • @agent1180 and it does have to do with atheism. Atheism is core with socialist-liberal countries. Odd, I know.

  • @THEGLASSOFMILK2

atheism or non belief can certainly an go a long towards progress...people need to live in the NOW and start making decisions off what works best for humanity in this day and age and quit making decisions based off scriptures wrtitten thousands of years ago .theres a reason people in the middle east people are walking around w/ an iPhone in their hand while also ironically dressed like genies, beating women around, and fighting endlessly w/ each other . beacause of RELIGION

  • He believes in the religion of global warming.... the idea that a greenhouse gas (and a relativitely mundane one at that) that makes up %1 of the earth's atmosphere can be responsible for any significant change in climate is the most retarded thing anyone can believe in! But maybe Al Gore's rich cronies who want to tax us for living and breathing can solve our problems...

  • @defgill and you are a right wing fundie prick that knows fuck all about science so we should listen to you and not the scientific consensus?

    Oh yeah, that makes sense?

  • @Rockster969 or maybe we should listen to the liberal media that can make you believe anything as long as they repeat it enough times. Idiot.

  • that's a good point. Religious people do have neurological disorders; they do black out with respect to religious questions that cannot withstand reason's assault

  • This fucking idiot doesn't know how to spell "atheist." LOL!

  • @PhysicalsimForever If you were a true atheist you would not even bother to attack the religious for thier beliefs because according to atheists it is a proven fact that God simply doesn't exist.

So why the need to attack the believers in the first place if you are that secure in your own faith?

  • @oldgordo61 "So why the need to attack the believers in the first place..."

A good question. For the same reason we fought against slavery or women's rights. We're still battling for same sex marriage, stem cell research and the legalization of marijuana. We see something that is wrong and we rage against it. The god of the desert is destroying our world and we're not gonna sit around and wait for another plane to fly into us.

    religion = root of problem

  • @TylerOmega It is religious fanaticism resulting from all too real prideful human beings.

It is pride not the faith itselt that is root of the problem, be it islam, judaism, hindism or christianity. Religion is just one of all too many excuses people will use to justify killing/hurting other human beings.Remove religion alltogether and all the ills of the world will still remain.

    Trust me.

  • Atheism is a Religion, because you believe, you have faith there is no God without proof. When you die, it is only then you see the truth.

Go back to the definition of faith. Faith is believing in something without proof. Religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Atheism is defined as the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Therefore Atheism is a religion.

    .

    Allen West 2012

  • @Twilightifyable I totally agree atheism is a religion that opposes faith in a creator. I cannot empiricaly prove to you or anyone else certainly not the atheists themselves that God is real and niether can atheists prove that there is no God.

The only way to know for a 100% certainty is when we all reach the end of this life on this planet.

  • @Twilightifyable I can see atheism being faith for the reasons you give. But it is not religion.

  • @oldgordo61 Because of the policies that "believer's" fantasies bring to public laws that effect EVERYONE. Teaching "Intelligent Design", denying rights to gays, denial of women's rights, the idiocy of "abstinence only" (which CLEARLY doesn't work, even for "believers"), the Manifest Destiny guiding our international policy are but a few. In the past, Christianity has been used to rationalize slavery, native american genocide and apartheid. A "true atheist" simply can't stick their head in sand.

  • Bill is not an athiest. He's agnostic.

  • What a moron! Bill you are the definition of neurological disorder! Morally bankrupt!

  • You need a lot more friends like these.

  • @PhysicalsimForever if you want ammunition watch christopher hitchens and richard dawkins they are a great couple of guys that are trying to get the pope arrested check them out you will enjoy it

  • Seriously, the biblebangers have no clue that the devil lurks in their pews! ;) It's hard not to laugh...or gag...

  • I love how "cranesnplanes55" doesn't know how to spell "atheist." Sounds like someone hasn't even bothered to consider new ideas. Before you rip on something, at least learn to spell it beforehand. It gives you more credibility. This is the reason why so many people are turned off by religion, including myself.

  • I went to a church once and some stuff they said made me laugh so hard they kicked me out.

  • It's spelled "atheist".

  • Bill Maher rocks.... it's true, no aetheist has a chance at the white house, not for a while anyway.

  • @JRussellDay Bill Maher has little undestanding of spirituality and all the good that the vast majority of christian and non-christian denominations do for its followers and the communities they serve.

The day spirituality is done away all together in America will the day of reckoning in that country which was founded on christian principles stands for.

  • Obama goes to church. You don't sit in church if you are an atheist. I believe in God, and I can't even sit in church.

  • he has to go to church so he can get ellected though.

  • if you call someone dumb , how smart can you be, then you refuse to be dumb yourself , and that means you don't allow yourself to be dumb , so that means you don't allow yourself to learn anything ...cause then you would feel dumb ... so you are probably ...... dumb...sorry , just making you a bit smarter

  • Oh Bill... I love the guy but he's so wrong.

  • of course hes lying...

Obama's father was an outspoken athiest...

  • So is mine but that doesnt matter to me

  • no shit, fucking awesome!!!!!

  • The only true religion is the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

    AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!

  • @lindabee10 mmm noodles

  • @lindabee10 why lie? of course the only true religion is Christianity.

  • @TragiclyPro I agree that there is not enough physical evidence to support Evolution or any Religion that I know of. But to say that it just all came about in a soup and that living matter arose form non living matter over millions of years is dumb to say the least.

  • @JamesRideout123 y is dumb? and what is really dumb is to thinkthat a book full of stupid tales is have been inspired by an enthity who is watching from the sky.

  • @nikur cranesnplanes55 hopes that Obama is lying about being Christian just to get into the White House. Thats fine. But its funny how you can see how someone might lie about their faith for presidency yet if I asked him does he think Hitler also lied about being a Christian to get into office he would be the first to say no. You cannot talk out of both side sof your mouth. Either you believe one or believe the other.

  • @TragiclyPro lol!!!! comedy

  • @lindabee10 wrong! the church of the Fonz is the only true belief. May the Fonz be with you.

  • @HS225 let us ayeeee

  • @floghit ayeeee!

  • Ok.... Maher calls all people who belive in god have a brain disorder?? Christ, hasn't he looked at the evolutionary cycle, the Number,Natural Selection among humans or the Cell? All have scientific relativities to design to them, people!

  • I hope he is lying, too. But I don't really care that much as long as he makes decisions based on logic and not on faith.

  • Bill has a strong point here.

  • That guy looks a lot like Christian Bale, except good looking.

  • Progressive are thier own worse enemy

  • religion is its own worst enemy

  • religion is like a unicellular organism. it always splits. every single religion is devided into sub groups that are fighting eachother. just judaism alone spawned christianity AND islam and those two again split into russian orthodox, protestant, shiites, catholics, ...

but other than unicellular organisms which just get more and more with time, faiths fight eachother. thats what makes you so right.

  • What an empty life you have. If you're so certain of your beliefs - just enjoy them and keep them to yourself. Stop bringing a mass murdering jew into it.

  • Cranes, I believe it's "atheist", and Bill is nothing of the sort. He believes atheism is mirrored organized religion and does not endorse it at all.

  • danzango, you are dead wrong. He expressed something like that once or twice for expediency.

Bill regularly refers to himself as an atheist and he knows damn well that it's not in any way 'organized' or religious or fundamentalist or 'certain' or faith-based.

Atheism is ANYONE, agnostic or not, who doesn't (currently) have any reason to believe in a deity. Atheist doesn't mean you're certain that there's no god.

I'm not certain that telepathy doesn't exist but I still don't believe in it.

  • Actually, on his wikipedia page says he states in a quote that he is an apatheist.

  • Don't ever reference Wikipedia. I could go on there right now and say hes a black christian woman.

  • The sources are linked. I'd be an idiot not to check where it came from first to verify it's truth.

Also, you probably couldn't. It's most likely locked because many silly people don't like him.

  • He's never once said he was an atheist.

He simply doesn't believe in God or the other supernatural elements found in your typical organized religions. I've actually got the sense that he was deist as times, while most times he comes off as a skeptic agnostic or apatheist.

  • and the correct religion is.... shinto!

  • Ok, in his own words he was "religious".

  • Sigh. No. No he wasn't. You have to be part of a religion to be religious. Plz don't confuse spirituality with being religious.

  • Ok, in his own words he was "religious".

  • even if he was (in which case his scientific work would have been heavily constrained, as is the trend with religious scientists) that wouldn't make any religious claims more true.

  • I find his notions of religion far more satisfying, liberating and honest than most of the pap sold as religion.
