  • Your video is a favorite on Manila

  • This vid went viral on Ghana

  • nice vid

  • who holds the best distance among them?..

  • @luigixlr8

Gerd Kanter holds the world record at 74.sumthing metres

  • @gnocco86 tnx...

  • @gnocco86 Nope.... its Jürgen Schult with 74 meters in 1986. @luigixlr8

  • 70footer, you have the best videos. i dont have much of a coach so i just study your vidoes.

    THANK YOU

  • So what do you do for a living?

"Oh I throw a disc along a field and hear the crowd cheering."

  • The similarities are amazing in technique. The earlier bodies appear to be somewhat augmented compared to the present day throwers. Better diet, no doubt.

  • how does delis throw so far? it looks like he's not even trying. love wilkins explosive speed. and alekna has incredible shoulder flexibility for this.

  • i like Delis his form is so smooth it looks like he's dancing

  • which acdc song is this?

  • @DuoOverload

    Night Prowler

  • Throwing events like discus and shot are great because, they are the only manly sport that allows you to spin around like a ballerina without criticism:)

  • @princesssoops23 height doesn't madder cause in my school we have a 6 2 senior from France he's our foreign extange student and he whips ass in shot put. And for discus if your tall then you can have more moment and tht means a longer distance....

  • Wow... I can only throw 116...

  • there all ripped and have cool names, of course they're gonna throw it far

  • @lovinthecountry1 haha yes yes

  • nice vid i love discus im hoping to go to the olympics for it when im older

    i am 12 i throw 45 - 50 metres with the 1 kg in a full turn

  • @gameproductionzz I think you mean feet. It's okay a lot of people get it confused when they first start.

  • I dont wanna dissapoint ya all, but these techniques aren't perfect, it's just brute strenght and inhuman speed.

  • In some respects that is true, but at my last tournament, there was a standing thrower, who was 6'6", vs a spinner at 5'10". The stander won because he was taller and stronger.

What it does mean for the spinner is that he has better potential, because he only needed a bit more muscle to be a lot better than him.

Size makes a difference, but not a huge one

  • @AILD2themax Actually, size does make a huge difference. Discus is all about the whip you can get in your arm. Longer arms=more whip. Generally, bigger people have longer arms, and can create more whip if they are stronger.

  • @DaringDerryn

although a smaller thrower would learn the technique better and would make some good competiton to a bigger thrower always if the biggest thrower would suck at the technique. Still size makes big difference...

  • gerd kanter gots the best techniqe for me!!!

  • @JurgenAlboWarrior

your all talking about how much size matters, but its also possible to be to big.

if you are too big you will be like a flagpole in the ring, and then the wingspan is no longer such a big deal because you cannot use your legs. And also because of that there will be to much leverage that you wont be able to controle.

And 60-70% of the force aplyed to the discus comes from the legs!! Thats a fact

  • @TeamDiscus

Yep I totally agree with your views, especially those about legs. I surely wasn't talking about 2.20 m 150 kg guys. I was talking about moderatly big throwers, like smth about 1.90-1.95 m and 110-115 kg who can fully control their body and are highly fast. The technique and the legs are surely important but if you are to short you might also think to start smth else, as other athletes such as sprinters, or jumpers these days are to tall. What do you think?

  • Comment removed

  • @JurgenAlboWarrior sorry for the late reply.

I have thought so, its a difficult question as whether an athlete may be too tall. But the risk of being too tall is greatest when you have something that can limit one's performance such as a throwing cirkle (such as Discus, Hammer and a shot put cirkle.)

But for example a sprinter or, long jumper there is not such big risk being too tall. The risk of people leaving the throwing events because they think theyre to short has propobly always been a

  • @TeamDiscus I don't think an athlete could be to tall for discus , hammer or shot. If anything it would be an advantage. Higher release height. Longer arms really help in the discus and hammer. You have to be like 8 feet tall to be to tall and if you are that tall you should probably play basketball. You have to jump to make a dunk.

  • I only break 100's. I'm a junior in high school and this is my first year. I improved since the beginning. I powered from 70 feet to 110 feet. Now I'm training my power position. Hopefully I will at least break 120 cause this girl will give me a bj if I do o___O

  • awesome techniques, so much training!

    age - 16

    weight - 75kg

    throwing - 1kg/61m, 2kg/40m

  • @alZiiHardstylez i train 3 times each week ^^ watch my vid then you see my lenght :P

  • WOW this is an awesome video :D

  • Most people in high school cannot throw a disc. Only a few people can throw distances that will get you into college or nationals. You have to seek out the best coaches to get this good.

  • @ffdad4 Thank you buddy thats what i was thinking in my meet Junior boys discs(1k) when the guy under me was 35m and i was at 63.23m

  • who is at 4.40

  • @andrew9592 Mac Wilkins

  • I bet most of the people talking shit in here couldn't break 90'.

  • @MrHav1k 8th grade, first year, best throw in disc in a meet is 98.4' :D, not that i was talking crap or anything, but im trying to improve my technique hopefully i can break 100' by the end of this season 2 meets left then county, anybody have tips?

  • what weights would they be throwing?...

  • @BigJuan2008 no, that sucks balls... if you want somebody to tell you your good go talk to your mommy.

  • Comment removed

  • @BigJuan2008 All you were doing was seeking praise to boost your ego, if your coach already told you it was good then there was no point in asking

  • @BigJuan2008 As a throwers coach I would say your good for your age.

  • @BigJuan2008 i have thrown about 160' feet at the end of the season, so it just depends where you are in the season, and how big of a guy you are

  • @AILD2themax Size means nothing, if anything it's technique, speed and arm span.

  • @alZiiHardstylez that isn't true caus i have a very good technique when you compered to my opponent, but because i'm small i don't throw more then some people

  • @bazip1995 well, maybe you should train some more. ;)

  • well id hate to get in a bar fight with any of these guys (yikes)

  • this is the best discus video on youtube... i wake up every morning at 4:30 watch this video 73 times, eat 18 raw eggs and 6 gallons of chocolate milk and then do dry turns in the basement till 11... this video works for me

  • delis makes it look so easy... cant wait till my meet omorrow, i throw about 140

  • i got a 245 pound dick whats 45 inches in your asses

  • what up with the song when the black guy goes up at 00:34

  • Comment removed

  • Its Night Prowler by ACDC

  • @gameproductionzz are you high? I'm a D1 thrower at Bucknell you ass clown. I got 7th in the nation for hammer throw? uhhh?

  • @Onlyfirstplace well im 1st in my nation for discus , shotput

  • @gameproductionzz australia :

  • @gameproductionzz Man i believe you aren't throw 50m.You are 12 and not even these athletes in the video were throwing 50m when they were 12.If u throw so far put a video to see you :)

  • @gameproductionzz most throwers throw 50m when theyare in the secondor the trird grade of high school

  • @Thrower98GR okay , Im in year 7 . I will put a video up this week or so

  • @gameproductionzz alright asshole but r u a D1 athlete at one of the best academic schools in the country?

  • @Onlyfirstplace yes i am . SO shut your fuk up

  • @gameproductionzz where are u from?

  • @osborn8948148 o yeah well i weigh 275 pounds with 25% body fat bisnatch.

  • thats pretty good lol im like 223 right now--- i wrestle 215 and im like 18%

  • @Metalr0ck3r HA i really am that big but i was just joking around isn't 25% body fat like obese, which is what i am haha

  • no that isnt that bad lol. like when i was 22% the trainor said for a kid my size its actually ok so it would be for u to lol

  • haha im still fat, but im cool wit it

  • im 15 and onl;y 5 10 and i threw 55m or 180 ft

  • The more I hopped on my initial turn, the further mine went. I was under some false impression that I lost my spring and power by leaving the ground. BS.

  • My idol is Virgilijus Alekna!

Any girl with 16 years old that throws discus or shot put?

I'm from Portugal and i'm a thrower, I just want to compair marks with someone from other country, to see what is happening in atlhetics of our age in other country.

  • @Hernanda7 well im 15 and from the US and my best throw has been a 107'11 but ive only been throwing 2 years. i got second place in that meet so that isnt anywhere near the best around

  • 107'11 ft?

Here in Portugal we use meters (m).

  • oh sorry lol

    then its about 32.92m

  • Ahah, no problem :)

    Ok, thank you **

  • I coach 2 girls from australia that are 15, and they throw the 1kg disc 40-44m

  • Cool.

    How long they practise athletics?

  • i have a question, your first step, should it be a hop? from what i can tell wilkins, delis, and kanter all hop a little in their first step by my coaches tell me not too

  • hey the hop u should defintely do but if u already know slow down the first spin hop across the ring that will make ur body twist like a spring to make u throw farther

  • its more of a sweep with the right leg and the right leg should be slightly bent

  • @dcbcboxer no it's not a hop. just learn from the scratch..don't worry about spinning until later on which is 1 or 2 week.

  • I would if it is a running hop

  • Awesome....a real inspiration.

    Thanks for posting.

  • If theres on thing to take from this video look and Kanter's throw he fuckin explodes that explosion accounts for at least forty feet.

  • all of them are really explosive. you have to throw over 200 feet

  • This one really helps out a lot! I'm a sophmore this year and plateaued at about 140 can anyone look at my video and tell me what the hec i need to change?? 70 footers videos are always great

  • it truly helps~~~~ i went from mid 80s to a hunerd in basically next throw but dont forget plzzzz some1 GIVE ME A POINTER PLZPLZPLZPLZPLZZZZZ

  • man thats a reaallllly describing video im in ninth grade also osborn and throw a standerd weight discus around 100 even on a good throw and was wondering if theres anything that i truly need to pay attention to when doing the full spin throw weather it be something obvious im missing or something small and also for any1 reading this iv noticed something that u really need to watch when ur throwing a full spin is that on the last throw squat just a slight bit and then use that power and snap---

  • thx this video is actualy showin me wats rong wit my technique n y i hav nt done well this season

  • Beautiful!!! Thank' s.

  • Hey throwers im a grade nine discus thrower and i have hit a plataue at 54m and i was wondering if u guys have any tips for me to throw farther

  • how heavy is the discus you use?

well I would recommend working on keeping the arm as far back as possible, then when you're at your power position rotate your right foot (if u're righty) and make your body use that turning force and apply it to the discus, I wouldn't recommend to much strength training, just wait a couple years for that. Hope this helped :)

  • I LOVE THE DISCUS!! If you enjoy it as much as I do check out my blog called DISCUS GURU. Search it on Google. You won't be disappointed.

  • damn delis is smooth

  • he's like 6"3 with a 7 foot armspan. The man is a hero:L he just seems so coordanted and calm in the circle.

  • if he's 6'3" his wingspan isnt going to be 7ft. if it was he would look like a gorilla

  • honestly mate, it sounds fucked up but its completely true. I'm 6"2 and i have a 6"5 armspan, and in fairness it doesn't compete at all with what i'm saying. But to be amazing you really need to be massive.

  • I'm 6'3 and guess my arm span is about appropriate for 6'9 best I can guess. Dress shirts have 39 in sleeve

  • Yeah I am the only guy 6'3 with a 7 ft. wingspan. LOL If my sleeves were only 1/2 in. longer all my shirts would have to be tailored. I already stretch the limits of 85% big & tall shops 39 in sleeve length. & I'm only 6'3 but I sure liked back when I threw the discus.

  • im 6"3 with a 6"9 wing span but im a sophmore

  • Gerd Kanter is the best in my eyes.

  • i like mac wilikins the most then kanter

  • ACDC - Night Prowler

  • What is this music, please?

  • does n e 1 no how many metres the circle,,where they throw the disuc..

cause i want to practise these throws but i dont have n e athletic field so i was thinking of making the circle

  • 2.5 meters

  • its 8 feet diametre i think

  • Luis Delis is the best of the group in terms of form.

  • He was great !

  • for me Virgilijus is the best in world forever and jurgen shult

  • there pretty awesome discus throwers but for me my two favorite would be mac wilkins and al oerter

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a sophomore and my best throw is 153'. anyone have suggestions on how to work on trajectory????

  • I'm a junior in high school throwing 144' , the thing that i have really been working on lately is getting the left arm open immediately on the first spin, in order to have it in the correct place later to utilize it for a better block. This helped me recently throw a very big PR.

You can see Mac Wilkins doing this EXTREMELY well.

  • he bends it a little bit too much i think...obviously he made it work though

  • you want the left arm in line with the left hip so at the front you keep that torque and the stretch reflex causes a huge acceleration trust me. My PR jumped thirty feet with that tip right there.

  • Schult threw so damn well at the major events its amazing

  • I love these throws. Man, I need to figure out how to pop up at the end. Those throws are beautiful.

    Delis Rocks Everyone

  • Just watching this video in slow motion helps a ton. It's amazing to watch how perfect the forms are. Shit.

  • Does anyone know how i can get the skin to grow back on my pointer finger, lol. It's been gone for about a month now..

  • not throw for a while and let it heal

  • i don't use my pointer fingure :S i use my middle fingure i find gets more spin

  • delis had so much force that the discus pulls him at least half a foot

  • I like this video a lot... Its not like other videos that tell you how to throw it shows you... which is much better

  • What is the name of this song?

  • Night Prowler- AC/DC- Highway to Hell

  • Night Prowler-AC/DC

  • I have a really poor spin so i use half but with full spin i know i can throw 130 plus

  • oh and if you wanna be even more jealous i also threw 45' 8" in the shot put. at my second meet of the year breaking my schools 31 year old record by 4 feet. So i dont care if you don't beleive me

  • Lol..whats pathetic is that you threw a 45'8'and beat your school's 31 year old record by 4 feet. Your school is a HORRIBLE throwing school if its record for 31 years was a 41'8. I could get a random guy from school and have him throw 45+

  • ha. I hav a vid of me throwing exactly 45'8.25

  • why do i get thumbs down. i thought it was a nice coincidence

  • Not gonna lie, 45'8 is not much of a record. I haven't even been to a meet this year where that would've won so don't be so cocky.

  • I don't! I have a 7th grader that has thrown 147!! That is with the half spin. He has the capability of throwing over 150 feet before the year is over!!!

  • im in 7th grade and i throw a 120' half spin

  • I'm in 15th grade and I throw 460' with 1/7th spin.

put up (a video) or shut up. no one believes you.

  • Dude I don't fuckin care if you believe me or not, your just a whiny ass bitch that is jelous. cause you throw like a girl

  • wow hockey

"your just a whiny ass bitch that is jelous. cause you throw like a girl "

    very mature

  • this video is amazing, really watch it when it goes to the frame by frame, thats what helped me

  • as a freshman i was hitting low 100's and from spin i was getting between 110-115. this year i throw from like 117-like 130. i;ve improved alot.

  • great vid i need to learn some kind of spin im a freshman and throw standing like 98"1'

  • Thats not bad, try a half spin technique (AKA South Afirca) to start out with, and from there try to work on your full spin, it'll help alot.

  • Thanks for ,a this film.

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I think this has to be the best throws video I've seen on Youtube so far. You really captured the greatness of these men. The slow-motion and still frames are very helpful to get an idea of how precise all of their positions are. Thanks again!

  • thanks for this beautiful video!!!

    by ferrons

  • what a magical video. makes me want to go throw some disc!

  • wasn't alekna's and delis the same?

  • SICK Video, THANKS, Paused right at the two main things I've been trying to coach for the past month.

  • Wilkin's in the blue shorts is my favorite video of all time. That's how you throw a discus my friends. Pure beauty.

  • true dat. but some of his videos on here show the disc coming out kinda funny/wabbly. he gets so much snap and separation he leaves his feet in the front. he's a true workhorse!

  • its came out weird cuz he kinda came over the end of the discus with his hand at the finish, but yes, it is an amazing video

  • hey, i throw lik delis! =DD

  • Cheers Man : )

  • Does any one no this song?

  • yeah mate, its ac/dc night prowler. next time you don't know the name just fone 2580 and it gives you the name;P

  • Man, Delis barely stayed in the circle. He was like ON the line.

  • Tdalae.... you have no idea what you are talking about man. Im 16 and i can watch someone else doing at techniques an get it rite off tha bat. Its not hard, just imitate it and see whichy one is for you then perfect it. Lol good try trying to sound profound and smart dumby!

  • You need good coaching to get a technique right, You are not going to just "imitate" someone and be a great thrower. I've seen people "imitate" a full spin before and they think they are doing it so awesome and great but the disc is completely out of control so i go stand out at the 100 ft mark cuz i know their throw is never gonna hit me if i'm that far away, lol.

  • i would definitely include Riedel if you do a second technique vid

  • lars riedel and jurgen schult have the same technique except lars doesnt reverse his feet but everything petaing from the beggining of the throw to the release is the same

  • schult doesn't reverse his feet. he just has to hop back to stay in the ring; he still throws with a hard block

  • Some young throwers think that watching several techniques will help them improve themselves but every single, tiny move by these super athletes was achieved by hours of technique training. Each athlete differentiates a bit the applied technique based on body type, speed, strength etc. Young athletes should be taken care of by their trainers in order to find the most suitable way of throwing and also in order to take advantage of the athlete's best elements.

  • you are right but the real problem is that most young throwers think you have to bench a lot and throw lots of throws to be good. its all about technique; thats why most top athletes are near into their 30s

  • Comment removed

  • thats not true cuz watichin these videos helped me improve my teknique and i wuz throwin 120 now im throwin 170

  • what was u doin wrong, cause im throwin around 135 and seem to be stuck there.
