  • holy crap lol

  • Far below is the place you'll go, ho!

    *cackles* This my fave line!

  • got to love ministry before they found hate lol i love ministry before and after they f found hate still getting used to the new stuff

  • great song

  • I was brought up listening to "NWO"-era Ministry, so when I first heard this, and other songs from the early days, I had the hardest time in the world believing it was the same band, same singer!

  • This song actually speaks to me. Love it.

  • @1991burzumaske and actually, where does he ever say that Twitch was to get a record deal? I find that hard to believe, first i heard of such, to be honest. I know he's embarrassed about With Sympathy, but Twitch - no way. I don't recall him ever saying such.

  • @1991burzumaske This and Same Old Madness sound nothing like most of the songs on With Sympathy. He was doing this darker synth based stuff, long before a record deal because he liked it. Sure the more fruity tunes, no doubt it was for the record deal, but these darker stuff like Everyday is Halloween, you can tell he really enjoyed doing such tunes.

  • Isn't Al hispanic? He looks nothing like a hispanic person.

  • @cainmartel Yeah, he's from Cuba. He does actually look Hispanic. You just likely stereotypically assume there is a certain look to "hispanics" e.g. very dark brown skin etc Likely anyway. Lots of people do it.Hispanic also includes the Spanish, btw. As in the people from Spain,. You know, those white people, speaking Spanish. You know that European language like English ;D Hah. Hispanics/Latinos are mutts, basically, especially after the spanish raped the land and people etc. I'm a mutt myself.

  • @MrMono

Unless of course you're one of those Jewish, German, Irish, Italian and Chinese immigrants to South America then there's a chance you're just a White person speaking Spanish/Portuguese. Or you're a mutt that just keeps mixing with whites you forgot you're a mutt. Or a white who keeps mixing with mutts you forgot you have white ancestors. Isn't Latin America an interesting part of the world?

  • @WeAreTheRiot Indeed indeed. that said there are a lot of Cubans who look "white", mostly due to the fact that the Spanish are "white". Italians look like Hispanics as well, at least southern Italians. Sicily and all that jazz etc etc Portuguese as well. Heck, even certain people from the middle east look Hispanic. It is that whole Mediterranean connection that was spread throughout southern Europe and the Latin Americas. Lookie at map, on wikipedia: Mediterranean_race

  • @MrMono and let us not overlook the fact that those hispanics of African descent.... it really is a mutt fest galore.

  • @MrMono Sorry to change the subject but, Al has put out an awesome Country music album "Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters", please check it out!!! And for those who can't believe that this is the same Ministry of late, you need to research: Acid Horse, Lard, Revolting Cocks, Pailhead, Skinny Puppy (Rabies). (PTP) , 1,000 Homo DJ's, Many of these projects were done at the same time! I'm glad to see that younger people are catching on to this type of music! Al is the fucking man!

  • @MrMono Sorry to cause offense, I simply thought that, being from Cuba, he would resemble a Cuban.

  • hermosa cancion!!

  • idk about RIo Grande, that was pretty weak, imo this and Last Sucker were Ministrys worst albums, otherwise Als done a great job.

and also this isnt truly early Ministry, i laugh at people who say that this is how they first sounded, Al changed this sound up for commercial time, my cousin saw him when he first started out b4 this, these songs were originally gothic rock songs, you can here the leftovers from that time on "Early Trax" the songs are "Im Falling" and "Overkill".

  • Way into every Ministry era (especially The Mind and prior)- this song is great, but anyody else hear some 'Corey Hart 'I Wear My Sunglasses At Night' aroma lurkin just beneath the surface? - Edgar Cayce

  • way better than their new shit

  • This is pretty cool. Synth pop,but a bit gothic. Still,I can hardly believe this is the same guy who recorded Psalm69

  • best 80's era synth pop?

    Maybe....

Hard to believe this is the same Ministry with the album called "The Land Of Rape And Honey".

  • why was he trying to act british when he's cuban?

  • Cant we all just keep it short and sweet? I'm too drunk to read alot!

  • Classic is what i meant. Sorry

  • cCassic. Thank you

  • fucking hate it.

  • 65 idiots

  • I like it : DDD

  • far below is the place artista records will go

  • This song is... creepy.

  • I love this first album from them....not sure why Al didn't like it.

  • Finally I should add I respect some Metal, just not 90% of the fanbase. Most of the music is hard to take seriously, but the roots with Sabbath, Zeppelin, D. Purple etc are good and and I've no real objection to NWoBHM like Priest, Maiden, Motorhead. I dislike Metal and Punk coming into contact, meaning thrash/extreme/d-beat can eat me. I like some Alt-Metal, Sludge and early Industrial Metal such as Ministry's '87-'92 output (and fuggin GODFLESH),so there you go.

  • I only No W before, when I heard this I thought it was a different singer from England, ha ha. Wish there would have been more like this.

  • this is one of those songs where the studio version is either bad or ok, and the live version is freaking awesome, this being one of those songs. not saying it's bad. it's just not that great, but its ok.

  • @SuperDiamondDogs early Ministry is Al's best work to my ears. "Twitch Live" is amazing. Wish he had kept working in that vein.

  • Labels are for canned goods.

  • This is the greatest music video of all time.

  • I'm gunna laugh like a mother fucker.

  • I love this song !

  • Great synthpop somg!!

  • Stare ale jare!

  • guys wer so much better wen they first started

  • Was amazing to see how they progressed over the years..I love old ministry as much as I do the newer stuff

  • I love "happy" Ministry too!

  • @clandestiny01 wtf this is not nearly even close to "happy" this is FUCKED UP. Al just walked in on his girl and another dude AGAIN!. wtf maybe im drunk but for reals bro listen to his fucking story.

  • @BATMANZLEGACY Relax and don't take things too seriously. I labeled it as "happy" because it has a more commercial and upbeat sound and even a less "tough" image compared to what we are used to hear and see from Ministry. I still like it. Don't take it too literally...or maybe you're just drunk.

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • The only album I like of theirs is this one. The rest is not for me. He should be thanking the record co. for giving him one good album that actually made money and got airplay.

  • @hayleygreenberg "He should be thanking the record co. for giving him one good album that actually made money and got airplay." yeah Psalm 69 was awesome.....what that was the only album that went platinum lol

  • Ah ministry, wasn't even born when this came out. I had been shat out by their last gig though.

  • I used to be Al's neighbour! It was amazing seeing him recording the Revolting Cock's album back in 2003 in his garage. I remember him driniking bunchs of red wine. Good old memories!

  • i would have to say that "Rio Grande Blood" is the best album of all Ministry music. I prefer the metal Ministry than the pop Ministry

  • I love ALL Ministry material! Its the 80 style..., like NIN, Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, The Cure...

  • He looks like the guy from "Breaking Bad', ,,,,Bitch!!!

  • Does anyone know what kind of earrings he has? :o

  • @deathrock616 I believe that earring is a razorblade. The double edged thin kind. I remember those from the 80's. (Of course the edges were not sharp )

  • Comment removed

  • He supposedly hated this album. But I think it is absolutely brilliant. I just don't think he realised how talented he was.

  • @Konuku Oh uncle al knew. it was that he sold out ,he was young and the music co wanted to make him their corporate puppet. it was alot of money up front. never having this caliber of sucess before he took it and arista wanted complete artistic control over the entire process leaving him jaded pissed and well used .

  • This was on VH1 Classic the other night at like 5:00 AM. Took me by surprise to see a good video on TV for a change. Great track.

  • That other guy sure has a sweet turtleneck though.

  • Johnny Depp?

  • It would be awesome if they revisited the old "Pre-Land of Rape" tunes, but in the heavy industrial style... if ya think about it, the lyrics would still work....angry.

  • Man Al sure looked a lot better back then than he does now. Still love his music though.

  • HaHa I Love this early Ministry!

  • Al says in one of his interviews that the record company "homogenized" what Ministry was. The record company wanted to make an album they thought would sell more records...

Al was not very happy with this album after recording. Does anyone know if there is a remix for this album?

  • @TheDerekVinyard There are the Demos on Youtube.

  • ministry then and now, only difference is harder music and better audio software. everyday is still one of my fave ministry songs

  • People who hate early Ministry hate awesome

  • i do not understand why many ministry fans hate this.

  • @vaisseauxsanguins They are Metal-devoted lunkheads who can only accept a band like Ministry in the context of their stupid Metal circle. I'm sure it's the same when fans of Metal-era The Cult discover the band in their early post-punk incarnation. Metal fans are so ridiculously closed off and bitchy toward different styles and especially New Wave-associated music. They act like Metal is so much more "legit", even though no one takes Metal nearly as seriously as they do.

  • I get a hearty laugh out of these folks trying to diminish and belittle stuff like this, Depeche Mode, synthpop and it's fans, given the way so many people look down at THEM and THEIR music. Heavy metal is one of the least critically respected Rock genres and has among the highest rates of fans who outgrow it. I guess part of their hostility at other genres has to do with this fact...lol, that and their testosterone.

  • @xreddragonx so you bash a whole fan base because they dislike Ministry when he was at his worst? i have no problem admitting i own nearly ever Depeche Mode album from Some Great Reward- Sounds of the Universe as well as saying i own nearly every Motorhead album as well.

"Heavy metal is one of the least critically respected Rock genres and has among the highest rates of fans who outgrow it" where the hell did you get that from?

  • @hellchild65 "here the hell did you get that from?" From reality, maybe? How hilarious for you to question me on Metal's lack of critical respect when even Metalheads THEMSELVES acknowledge this. They do. They know exactly why it takes so long for most of the icons of their genre to be inducted into the R'n'R Hall of fame, they KNOW that VERY few Metal albums make all-time best of lists. They KNOW that their music isn't respected, but still like to be hypocrites and ridicule genres like NW.

  • And, lest people think I failed to notice, I LOVE how hellchild preached to me not to dismiss genres with the argument of how he doesn't "make up shit to belittle rap" (as if rap has anything to do with this topic), yet he was okay with starting off his post doing EXACTLY that to New Wave: making up complete bullshit to belittle it. I hope hellchild is hiding under a rock right now, because that's exactly where he belongs.

  • @xreddragonx lol, Gary Numan is electronic, early stuff is punk and modern stuff, since the mid 90's is darkwave... it seems like you have beef with metal for some idiotic reason. i put rap into there because i named an example of hating on a whole genre/fanbase for a simple stupid reason, which obviously, went over your head. seeing as i didnt say all of new wave is bad, as there were a few good groups, you took that out of context as me bashing all NW groups.

  • @hellchild65 Haha dude Numan being New Wave has never been up for debate. He's one of few artists nearly everyone agrees fits the otherwise highly debated label. Tubeway Army period is New Wave + post-punk, and his 80s solo work New wave and synthpop, and then "darkwave"/ industrial in the 90s. It seems you think New Wave is a simple term with a simple sound, or that is only applies to "pop" that you dislike. If you havent researched it, don't speak about it. I hate that kind of ignorance.

  • @xreddragonx who cares what albums made "best of lists" a number of those albums on there are overrated as hell and most people classify Post Punk as NW yeah....but ive also heard people classify artists like NIN and Manson as Metal, which is completely wrong. and seeing as most of those groups you mentioned came about around the same time as PP or were simply rock groups, electronic, or punk groups themselves, not new wave as you state i find it hard to believe you know what your talking about.

  • @hellchild65 NIN is not metal and is rarely identified as sycg, but I hate to break it to you that Manson USAlternative Metal and Industrial Metal. This is a weak comparison to New Wave and Postpunk either way, since first off "Postpunk" was an anglocentric term that was rarely, if ever used in America. New Wave was a umbrella label which covered most so-called postpunk, except for stuff more punk sounding.

  • @xreddragonx The US had a different, but still perfectly valid perspective of the New Wave and Punk phenomenon. The only problem is came as a result of the MTV explosion, when NW was used for far too long and eventually misapplied to pop artists with no real New Wave stylistic background, or to the music of acts who had long abandoned their New Wave origins (Simple Minds, Thompson Twins). And if you think I'm the confused one here, I once again recommend you to do research.

  • Those are some nasty typos there. "Sycg" should say such and "USAlternative" should say "is Alternative". Like I said, I get riled up at this topic.

  • @xreddragonx "new wave" was crap like Human League and Soft Cell when i was growing up, at least thats what we called it at my HS in the mid-late 80's so thats what im going by seeing as no ones ever called, idk PIL or Blondie or Patti Smith "new wave" by any means

  • @hellchild65 Mid-80s? Where did you go to school exactly? First off, Human League's first two albums are considered as innovative and influential on electronic/synthpop as Gary Numan and both artists were highly respected. Look up tracks like "Being Boiled", this was before the broads came along and the band was in experimental mode. Soft Cell was also far more than "Tainted Love" but I doubt you're aware of their other material.

  • ^Actually, I should say that neither Gary Numan and Human League were necessarily respected by critics of the time (neither was most electro/synth based music), but they are now respected as early pioneers of electronic pop development...next to Ultravox, The Normal, Suicide, Devo and Cabaret Voltaire. And yes ALL these acts and this whole music shift was part of New Wave.

  • Maybe I should have explained it with more patience, but genre ignorance is a sore spot for me. Trust me on this though, New Wave is not synthpop. It emerged in1975 out of Glam and Garage as the artier side of punk. David Bowie, Roxy Music, Sparks and Brian Eno are the often cited prototypes, and Guitar-pop such as Blondie (and other CBGB bands), Elvis Costello, Squeeze, B-52s, XTC, Cars, Split Enz were the first to be dubbed New Wave. Seriously, there is NO New Wave without these acts.

  • @xreddragonx there is a reason most people dislike New Wave, cuz vast majority of it is a rip off of actually talented artists like Gary Numan and Post Punk acts. Im not a Metalhead, not by any means even tho i own a number of Metal albums, but please be real, we had numerous good artists in the past fromt hat genre. I dont like most rap but i dont make up bs just to belittle the genre when i know there are actually talented artists out there that talk about more then "bling, ho's, lookin fly"

  • @hellchild65 Nice wishful thinking, it is not "most people" who dislike New Wave but most (99%) Metalheads and a good chunk of Hardcore punks. And just as YOU prove, 100% of anti-New Wavers are completely misinformed about the genre. Gary Numan is New Wave, one of the innovators of the genre, so how can NW suck for "ripping him off"? Half of "Postpunk acts" are also categorized New Wave, so if you're gonna hate NW, you have to hate a good chunk of post-punk, so nice try there kid.

  • @xreddragonx That's funny, about New Wave ripping off Post-punk. Pretty sure acts such as Blondie, Television, Devo, Patti Smith,Talking Heads, B-52s, The Cars, XTC, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, Suicide and Pere Ubu could NOT have ripped off a movement that kicked off in 1978. Nor rip off Gary Numan. In some cases they actually INFLUENCED Post-punks, but since your criticism is probably just a mindless utterance of another uninformed anti-New Waver's words, I can't expect you know that.

  • Hahahahah what?

  • I love showing this to hardcore ministry fans who hate depeche mode and seeing them be like "are you sure that's them" since they give me so much shit for liking synth pop

  • @d3p3ch3mod3 really? i know most Ministry fans hate this (i do) but in all honesty, aside from a few at Ministrys shows (but those few are the same as the primate knuckle draggin metalheads who just like metal), i never met a Ministry fan who said DM sucked when they entered the conversation tbh lol, in fact, it was a Ministry fan who got me into DM back in the early 90's....

  • This is where Dr. Gay ripped off Al Jourgenson. those shit-hop poser fags don't deserve to be in the rock n roll hall of fame. Al does.

  • you did it again hoe!

  • It must suck to not enjoy good music because it's not the "style" you listen to.

  • Can't say I appreciate this music, but I can't get enough of the industrial metal Ministry.

  • the real question is "why is he singing with an english accent?"

  • @emmers57 must've listened to too much depeche mode

  • @emmers57

Haha I've always wondered the same thing. That's funny. Still pretty bitchin' though.

  • no devotion....smile!cool change al.....

  • hold on is this ministry the metal band ? industrial metal band i mean ?

  • @bulletformygizmo yeah, just about every album they make they change a bit. They went from more synthy (Which i prefer more) to industrial, to metal (which others prefer). Its kinda interesting and rad that they change up their sound so much

  • @bulletformygizmo Yea but they were a synth-pop band in the beginning.

  • @bulletformygizmo

    Yea dude

Wasnt till the late 80s it was metalish

  • al looks like Jim Carrey in this

  • my fave ministry song is work for love, then everyday is halloween, and the last one is effigy.

  • My favorite Ministry song besides He's Angry.

  • I really the transition AJ made WITH SYMPATHY is one of my favs...

  • F''n Awesome song,what a change!! WOW

  • To my ears, Ministry has had 3 eras - the 'new wave/synthpop era' covering "With Sympathy" and "Twitch"

THEN the true Industrial era. covering "Land of Rape and Honey", "Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" and "Psalm 69" (plus all that great RevCo side stuff) -

THEN they went full on metal with Filth Pig on... (still a bit of the industrial in there, but not much) I'm not a big metal fan so they lost me after that.

Note: Seen them in each era, they were always pretty good live.

  • I saw this concert to premote this album...he was very preppy with ray-bans and that doesnt fit his Herion Grunge look...to bad rob Zombie made all the money with that look...never the less this whole album is awesome some very unique songs and very catchy for danceable music...

  • Makes me laugh to think of people that thinks that ministry is just that, that they started to play that way and all came from nothing. It's embarassing to see how people can say that they like certain band and they don't even know what genre they started to play...

  • Fuck Ministry is confusing I heard the album The Land of Rape and Honey, and loved it! so after I heard that, i went and downloaded the two albums that came out before it. And they were full of this, I wasn't even sure if it was the same band! I'm not saying this is bad (although it's not the sort of thing I would generally listen to), I'm just saying stick to one style.

  • Is this MINISTRY?? You know. The band that created So What, No W or Stigmata???

  • @JokerJohnJoker Yep.

  • same thing happened to me

  • beautiful very beautiful new wave new romantics sound

  • Old or New Ministry still kicks ass \m/ \m/

  • THE GAP SHOCK

  • Love this song its always stuck in my head

  • oh my...

  • @skouf007 jajajajajajajaja thats right!

  • FABIO! FABIO! FABIO!

  • Essa música é demais!

    I love old Ministry!

    Nice music!

  • I love this stuff! Better than that later screaming he did (but that's my opinion). Remember kids, everyone takes you more seriously when you sing in a fake British accent.

  • Al looks like Billy Joe Armstrong xD

  • Ministry still fuckin great. Pioneers in my book.

  • Al was pretty goddamn hot during his synthpop years!

  • Ministry rules from 1983 on...doesn't matter the genre.

  • I wish they stayed with this genre.

  • Wow, that is different...

  • He looks like Jim Carrey lol

  • This is way different than what they did in the 90's. Still interesting.

  • I saw them play this live when i was 13 in Champaign Illinois the whole band was wearing some strange Boy George looking white outfits. Everything since then has made up for it.

  • I loved this in 83 and I love it more now!

  • This is so amazingly good it gives me chills... ♥

I am so thankful to have this on vinyl!!! ;)

    Oh, the nostalgia............ ♥

  • i own this cd... best 5 bucks i ever spent!!!!

  • the synth in this song is awesome! xD

  • WTF! I love Ministry! I guess they were peaking a little bit early.

  • their old shit was so much better

  • The record company he had at first wanted him to make music like some Depeche Mode sound-alike. He made one album like this, then said F**k off to them, broke the contract and started doing the music he wanted to do. Good move AFAIC, and still this sounds more genuine than other bands at the time. But, why the English accent?

  • Are you fucking kidding me?

  • I STILL LOVE HIM STILL A GOOD SONG TO THIS DAY! LOVE HIM FOR ALL HE'S DONE 80'S 90'S 20'S HE STILL RULES!!!!

  • harmless pap.

  • i honestly can't believe this is ministry and al jourgensen singing! when i started listening to ministry it was when they first release psalm 69 in 1992. to be honest! this is the first time I hear the early stuff of Ministry. I'm more into his 2000s thrash metal musical and antibush lyrical. This songs sounds ok cause it reminds of my childhood.

  • didnt al call this 'an abortion of an album' ?

  • over the years I've grown to love the early "With Sympathy" era Ministry the most, out of everything Alain has done. My favorite albums were LORAH and Twitch for many, many years but now I would definitely say this is his best stuff. It's too bad he has such an adversity toward this music, I would love to hear it if he were to revisit this style of production. He was a true early electronic music pioneer.

  • Elaine!

  • it sucks and i love it!!!

  • Definitely, my kind of Hot 80's music.

  • This is Ministry? Wow.

  • I'm a massive Ministry fan and I think this album is much better than the straight forward industrial thrash metal stuff that Al has put more out recently.

How about getting back to your dark synth-pop roots for an album or two Al?

  • you can't escape the past, Alain, the hate against your early self will haunt you till you die. JUST ACCEPT IT. there is nothing wrong about it, God.. I guess you just lost balls, somebody had to tell you, you were gay or something, otherwise you couldn't bury yourself into crap you're in now. come round, Al!

  • Brilliant, I like all Ministry's albums!!! And the English accent was something the label made Al do because British synthpop was pretty popular :)

  • The only thing I hate about Ministry's early work is that stupid fake British accent. What were they thinking?

  • @DNOMYTE the label forced Al to do it

  • I like it, but what is with that over the top English accent? Lol.

  • He can hate his own work all he wants. This song was always one of my favorites from the first time I heard it - an absolutely awesome dark driving rock song, synth or no. Sorry - but I guess that's what makes the world go 'round.

  • Al should be suing dr gey, i mean dr dre.

  • Old Ministry, New Ministry, both are fucking good. I love Synthpop and Metal. There is nothing to be embarrassed about.

  • @curtis1567 i agree !!!!

  • I feel like walking up and slapping Al's momma, this track is so fucking good.

I know Al hates his old music, but it doesn't get better as far as New Wave back in the day goes. Al....I love this, so thanks!

  • Fu**in' brilliant track!!!

  • There is NOTHING embarrassing about this. I LOVE this song and Ministry.

  • @DasFremde Agreed. Not all good music needs to be heavy (sonically). This is a crackin tune

  • say it to his face

  • awesome love both sides of this band !!!!

  • There's nothing really wrong with this!? why be emberassed about it? it was a different era of music and he went on and made another. I like metal, i like the 80's music and also listen to 50's,60's,70's and 90's. Why stick with one generation? expand on music

  • @junkyturd That's an excellent point. And people need to remember that almost EVERY music artist experimented with synthesizers in the 80's. (except for AC/DC)

  • Comment removed

  • I don't give a rat's ass why Al J did this, or what he thinks about it now. This is one ass-kicking synth track. And that's what counts.

  • @GeorgeFromNY amen!

  • @GeorgeFromNY its cuz he got paid a lot of monny by the recald comperny to do wt thay wanted to do with that monny thay made all the alsome stuff with differnt recording compernes

  • @sicomatt123 What the hell did you say?

  • I really grow tired and fing hate all these critics on here who bash Al! go fuck yourselves then!

  • back then everybody wanted to be a underground pop band. I listen to both pop and heavy music.

  • Jesus built his Korg. 'Twas a love affair with Jesus and his synthpop.

  • he still had the angry approach to his music back then as he did later, thats why i lke this stuff!

  • @gayskunk he shouldn't be ashamed of it, it was well made music, i
