This song is from the soul of a man missing a woman. Ole Skool was about the lyrics. It was easy to identify with what they were singing about. The power to soothe was in the understanding just where they were coming from and just where they were trying to take you! Hang on, its been too long...No vulgar lyrics, no disrespectful names, just soulful moans and groans because it has been too long!
Pure classic. We're missing soul in the music nowadays. If you youngsters don't know where it's at it's right here. Get you some get right and lend your ear to what it's like to hear music that has a pulse.
the shit! They don't make music like this no more. Taking me back to them days when kicking it was worth kicking it you didn't have to worry about player hatin nigga at a party
I was only 14 and I was in somebody basement in sw philly, and me and some hot sweaty sexy young lady was in the corner trying to see who could grind who harder to this jawn..... damn!
Groups like New Birth, Earth, Wind & Fire and so many of that era kept it real, not to mention all the solo artists. That instruments and vocals were so intune with each other. Had spirituality and messages that weren't preachy or forced. Music today is missing that deepness that these performers put into their music...

@cengelbert1 She would have been a great competitor on America's next top model. They make the contestants wear unusual costumes like that. I can hardly see the picture, but I know she would have been a good competitor... she got the album cover! Good for you!
Thank you very much for posting this classic cut!!! This brings back good memories;I'm definitely a 70's child!!! They don't make good music like this anymore.
I am so very excited to be going to the 70's Soul Jam on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Beacon Theatre in New York, New York!!! Blue Magic, the Dramatics, the Manhattans, New Birth and the Stylistics are performing!!! New Birth was such a gifted and talented group, I am a glow with anticipation! I am sure NEW BIRTH will rock it for sure...
How was the show? I see "philly" in your name. I graduated high school in Philly in 1975. Those groups were/are some of my favorites. Stylistics "Round 2" is a lifetime top 10 for me.
@ramaroodle I apologize for taking so long to respond to your question. I wasn't ignoring you, I was terribly preoccupied. My screen name, 2phillysangel is representative of Philadelphia, PA (where I thoroughly enjoyed my youth"! I was only eight yrs. old in 1975, however, I was elatecd to see New Birth perform. My husban'ds name is Phillip, and he really digs Phil Perry (Make up for lost time...)
this was one of the best Albums of the 70's every cut on this joint was smoking and the baddest one in my opinion was a jam call Pains of Love. It was never release by itself but that jam was a classic.
This is one of the baddest songs and bands around... then and now. They should be a house-hold name. Earth Wind and Fire had a glossy, uptown sound while New Birth was raw, soul funk. Love both bands.
I was a child barely 7 years old when this song came out. Today I am 43 yrs on my way to being 44 if the Lord says the same. This is the music I know and love thanks to my parents and living across the street from the juke joint.
When they came to PGH. several yrs. back it was on and cracking! They sound soooooooo good and it was a great outdoor concert. i wasn't sure what to expect but was, pleasingly surprised.
Just stilling here listening to the best old music that I can find, once you start it's so hard to stop and I will not stop on this song, It brings back so many memories, loving it all. Blue lights in the basement house parties DC style.
uhm uhm uhm. My childhood. I remember CLEARLY when this came out. WOW. It's like a time machine. Young people dont know what they missed. Im soo glad I lived in this era.
Takes me back to Shape Bel. One of the many multi family cooks outs we military families got to together to enjoy! And of course seeing my parents slow drag to this at home at one of their many house parties!
I am a 26 year old that loves old skool music, I have been trying to find this song for months I didnt know who sang the song though! This song makes me all warm and lovey dovey inside, I start thinking about my fiancee and how this song relates to us, you for me and me for you its been too long!!!!
Soul music is the best kind of music. It really gets deep down inside of you like no other music can. I am not saying other styles of music is not good, but this music here becomes a part of you inside. Just a fact !
How many of the original members survived the plane crash in the 1970's? Any one know or remember/ I saw them in Raleigh N.C. along with Kool and the Gang on stage at the Memorial Center across from Shaw University in 1973. Talking about a hard core show damnnnnnnn
this was one of the coldest slow song to come in the 70' that no matter what can of problems that you and your girl was having when you hear this song are play it you just wanted to get back and enjoy each other (DAM GOOD SLOW DANCE SONG) GOOD TIMES
hot summer nights, listening to this song in the 70's either on a 45 or an LP on 33 on the big brown stereo with speakers on both sides and the colorful rings in the middle...good music, good times, good memories!
I was only 14yrs old when this came out but I could feel what this was all about. This was strong medicine LOL ! This group was Way ahead of their time just plain old F-U-N-K-Y !
My mother used to play the HELL out of this song when I was a kid...now I'm about to do the same on my mp3 player lol. Back then it was her old record player..times have changed but the quality of this song hasn't
I remember the first time I heard this song. I just joined the Air Force and was billeted with a room mate. After bedding down for the night, I heard this song playing. It took me a few minutes to realize my roomie was with a girl in the next bunk. I thought the song was making those realistic sounds. Of course I got up and slept on the couch in the Dayroom.
"Give me a little love, Give me a little love --awwww Lawd," Leslie had the REAL voice as did the rest of the group. Used to love this song as a young girl, used to get me going with the vocals, bass and everything else.
There's Where " Something For The People" get the beat for their song " My Love Is The Shhhhhh" Damn can't believe that I didn't pick up on that... SMDH!!!! But I still love this song...
Man! I'm sitting here with a lump on my throat hearing this jam. I go back to the summer of 1974 and the house parties in my neighborhood in East Los Angeles and my childhood sweetheart and me dancing to this. I miss all the friends and family I had back then and all my old crew. Life goes by so fast and here I sit in my 50's. I was only 15 when this jam came out lowriding with my homeboys.
@OldMrMemories I feel you man. I got a birthday next week turning on the big 60. But you know what? Life does go fast but our memories are fresh, just like yesterday. And this music we find again on Youtube or have cataloged at home, can take us back to those times and people we forgot to think about at this time in life. That's the beauty of music. There's a song for every week of your life. All you have to do is remember the times and the people. And It's yesterday man! It's fresh!!
@gtpmmk "There's a song for every week of your life". I've never heard anything put better friend. On Friday nights after a hard week i sit on my balcony and play all my CD's from my old record collection which I had transfered to MP3 and pour me a few Jack Daniels on the rocks and enjoy the music of my life so much. In my later years I have found that to be more enjoyable than going out to any bars or clubs. the music they play these days ain't worth it.
@OldMrMemories U sound just like my father..lol..On the weekends, He always sits in the basement at the bar playing (blastin) old school music and drinkin Crown Royal..LOL
But yea, i definitely agree that music nowadays is RIDICULOUS!! and I SO WISH WAS BORN EARLIER TO TRULY ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!! OLDIES BUT GOODIES! BUT I STILL BLAST OLD SCHOOL MUSIC! I MAY BE YOUNG, BUT IMA OLD SCHOOL HEAD!!! LOL GOTTA OLD SOUL!
THE MUSIC OUT NOW WILL NEVER COMPARE TO THIS BEAUTIFUL, MEANINGFUL MUSIC!!
@MrTtown53 lmbo the grandkids not allowed huh lol thats funny even though Im grown you sound like my parents...when their music is on no one but them is allowed 40 n over lol
@gtpmmk that was sooo beautifully said.. my parents is what put me on old school music like Smokey, EWF, Dells, Chi Lites, Etc..and I'm SO JEALOUS of You, my parents, and all other ppl who grew up with this type of music..lol..cuz music nowadays jus PATHETIC! This was REAL MUSIC!!
and ur so right about time flying...It seems like just yesterday i was 10 an now im goin on 24..its like where did the time go!
i can always relate good music like this to a certain time in my life...LOVE THIS MUSIC!
@OldMrMemories ....awww.... nice picture you painted. And me from the valley, lying to my parents, telling them we were going to the beach and ending up on Whittier cruising, partying and meeting boyz.....El Camino Real in San Jo....the lengths I went to, to meet "HIM"....Don't feel sad cuz the youngsters are doing all that now, we just came first....Sweet Memories............Susie
@MissSusieQue1 Hey Suzie, Nice memory. I guess we all use to lie to our parents back then. lol Only now that I'm older do I realize why they worried so much back then. I had some real close calls myself.
Miami, '74....every party, when they slowed it down, this got it started!! Long live REAL R&B music!!! Long live New Birth and every other R&B artists from back in the day who ever "bought it" onstage and in the studio. People under 40, what "ya'll gonna be listening to 30-40 yrs from now?????
We used to sing this song back in the days when we were mad @ our boy friends ...the original crew from SEA PARK APARTMENTS IN CONEY ISLAND ....(2980).1975-1979 LOVE YOU ALL ...
I remember being a little girl and my neighbor's boyfriend had got killed and she played this song non stop for weeks. Back to back. My mother and I could hear it through the walls. It got on our nerves, but we never said nothing to her about it.
Undastand Me, and ill undastand you!!!!!! This music dont get no realler, thats why old skool will NEVA die!!!! These songs have meaning that touch your soul!

It's fresh!!
gtpmmk 1 year ago
@gtpmmk "There's a song for every week of your life". I've never heard anything put better friend. On Friday nights after a hard week i sit on my balcony and play all my CD's from my old record collection which I had transfered to MP3 and pour me a few Jack Daniels on the rocks and enjoy the music of my life so much. In my later years I have found that to be more enjoyable than going out to any bars or clubs. the music they play these days ain't worth it.
Peace my friend
Tony

@MissSusieQue1 Hey Suzie, Nice memory. I guess we all use to lie to our parents back then. lol Only now that I'm older do I realize why they worried so much back then. I had some real close calls myself.

this song is nice! It was a song that came out in the early 90s that sampled the instrumental to this song....i cant think of the name of it.
But i swear, almost all (99%) music from 90s and up are sampled from music in 60s, 70s, and 80s...and some even the 50s...
MUSIC WAS REALLY MUSIC BACK IN THE 60s and 70s tho!!!
Nowadays MUSIC SUCK ASS!!!!
