@Yankeeprepper Have you experimented with different types of ammo and found one that shoots the best from this rifle? I was impressed with the accuracy. My Ruger would shoot one ragged hole from that distance but seeing that the ar 7 came from a buttstock, such a short barrel, and assembled in 30 sec without tools, that 2.5-3 inch group was amazing, especially with ASSHATS right behind you yapping away; thank you for your time and effort spent on this top-notch review.
@rebelprepper It's a fun rifle and has a serious cool factor to it. If you backpack or go camping it is especially handy. You barely know it's in your pack.
Amen to the Ruger 10/22 thats what i have and use at the moment as my SHTF battle rifle, But the great advantage of the .22 long rifle, you can carry about 3-5 thousand rounds no problem.
I've had mine for more than a decade, bought it new for about $160. Shoots great, never had a failure as of yet, usually shoot it between 50-100 yards. Bought it based on my dad's recommendation, being ex-military and seeing/using this weapon. No regrets with this purchase. Liked the video, I think you acturately went over the rifle.
It's probably been asked already, but have you found a practical way to mount a sling on the ar-7 yet? I was thinking about tying para cord to it, or gluing loops for MASH hooks to the side of the stock.
Good review. This will be my next .22. I have 2 Ruger 10/22's and I just purchased a Henry .22 lever action rifle which I find myself liking better than the Rugers. Holds more ammo (than Ruger's factory magazine), and it will shoot subsonic and calibri rounds without jamming. Henry makes a great product.
I'd seen these before but never looked at them seriously. After watching this video I decided to buy one and test it out. I love it and take it with me everywhere. Now I've bought a second one so I have one in the trunk of each car.
Liked the double validation I got in the first minute of this video. I just picked up a Henry AR7 and a 10/22 last week. Paid $145 for the AR7, and $189 for the 10/22, both new. From what I've heard Henry has made space for another magazine in the stock, so you can store one in the action, and 2 spares, but mine is an older one with just one spare.
nice i liked the remington 597 and have had my hands on a few 10/22 that i liked too also have a few bolt action single shot but i have got to get me a few or atleast one of them AR 7s whould great fo canoeing and fishing trips and it only liiked like a stock to me untill you opened it and i was like wow thats sweet too bad they dont make biger guns like that thanks for all the good info!
Mine goes everywhere with me. The peep sight makes it super easy to shoot. I've consistently hit a water bottle at 100 yds (once I figured out how high to hold over) with just the iron sights. It's even survived being run over by a truck with nothing more than a tiny crack inside the stock. Great gun.
I am surprised to see how many people have commented on a self defence aspect, of a rifle you described as a "survival" sandwich machine. My question would be: How many people are going to run towards you with their .45 and red in their eyes after you put a .22 in their knee cap or neck? In my view, you don't always need to kill people to defend yourself, an effective warning should suffice, when in a situation where any injury could be catastrophic for the wounded.
@Inodie1 The "22" guys out there drive me nuts. I can make a simple vid about what I prefer as a pack rifle for vaarmits and someone has got to back up their "little peter" claims about the awesome defensive aspects of the 22. There is a reason why you won't see the 22 in combat anywhere in the world. Because it's a 22. You can throw rocks to a guess, but there are better picks.
@Yankeeprepper I just want to pint out to you that the m16 series every Nato country and their respective rifles are chambered in 22 or .223/5.56.
You pop off ten rounds of hot 22lr from a rifle length barrel into someone it is lethal and can put someone down. Hinkley did all the damage he did to Regan, Brady and a Secret Service agent with a 22LR revolver. The main attraction to this rifle is it is light and compact.
@usarmycaptainamerica The 22 and the 223 may share the same diameter but you should try and placing a 223 bullet on to a 22 shell case. The 22LR and the 223 are not the same obviosly and the 223 is a sucky combat round anyway. The Ar-7 makes the ultimate SHTF 22 CAL rifle in my opinion, not the ultimate combat weapon. If you prefer something else, make a video and put it on your channel.
@Inodie1 5 second search on google - Wilkipedia: "Subsonic rounds have a muzzle velocity less than the speed of sound (approximately 1,080 ft/s (330 m/s)). These rounds are sometimes equipped with extra heavy bullets of 46–61-grain (3.0–4.0 g) to improve the terminal ballistics of the slower projectile. Conversely, these rounds may contain little more than a primer and an extra-light bullet."
How does the AR 7 tolerate being dirty? In an SHTF event, if the rifle got dirty while assembled and carried, could you still trust it to fire? Appreciate all your videos. If your up in Manitoba some time, dinner is on me. Cheers!
I have had mine for about 15 years as well. Great little rifle except for the butt plate. I have to tape it in place to keep from losing it. I called Henry Arms and they replaced it but it still requires taping to hold it in place.
@newbeprepper ammo shelf life has many variables. Consider temp, humidity etc. If stored cool and dry, ammo will last decades. Vacuum sealing ammo is a great idea.
@141kessler The m6 doesn't pack down to a butt, doesn't float, weighs almost 5 pounds with no ammo (compared to 3 pounds with ammo in the AR7. I will have a rifle and most likely a 357 with me in a SHTF. I want a lightweight relieable packable 22 that can fit in a side pocket until I need it.
@ro9beam2002 I have the sporter but I don't think it matters that much. I don't like the look of the tactical, it looks cheap to me But I am sure it all operates the same.
@eyewarnedyou Sorry I hit "remove" to your question, the new YT format still has me making mistakes, I thought I was hitting the "reply". I have never thrown ammo away, ever. The worst that can happen is it won't fire. 22 ammo is notoriously famous for not having a long shelf shelf. I would good out and test some.
Yankeeprepper, what is your opinion of the Henry Arms AR-7 survival rifle. I was looking at purchasing one and have been doing my research. From what I see it has a 3 magazine storage capacity (one in the action and 2 storage places.) since it comes with 2 I have been wondering whether to buy an extra mag or use the extra place for ammo and/or cleaning supplies.
love your stuff, worth watching. A very useful mod to the AR-7 is the addition of an ammo storage tube. locate an area inside the stock next to the receiverand drill a hole thru the plastic. make it a tight fit to a length of aluminum tubing that is a ID diameter to allow .22 cal rnds and a length that will allow the butt stock to close. Mine holds 18 rnds of long rifle. The end of the tube is secured with a cork stopper. Having extra rnds along with the rifle makes a smart SHTF modification!
what about something like a m @ p 22 or a colt m4 22.., you know all the new mil spec ar's in dedicated 22., will that work ok with like a little 4 power optic., not for battle., but hunting small game and such where main gun ammo shouldnt be used
@Yankeeprepper I also found an AR7 on gunbroker made by AR industries. The comment said the production years were between 1998 and 2004 (I think). Do you know anything more about the reliability of this platform? Thanks.
Is that a Bills Gun Shop?! I live just a few blocks from there! It's incredibly expensive to rent guns there though! Payed 103$ for me and 2 friends to share one lane, rent a 1911 and one 50 round box of ammo! I wish we had some cheaper outdoor ranges in the Metro Area.
just want you to know, I saw this rifle in person for the first time a week ago in the shooting range, the guy let me try it and go on about the advantages of it, exactly what you say. To light for me, but he showed me, 30 yrds ( max. in that range ) almost as good as me with the scoped 10/22 provided by the range I used. He said with more practice he will get better, he got it like a month and loves it so much.
I have been trying to remember the name/maker of that survival rifle for years! Haven't seen one in forever. Thank you! I have to say I'm surprised that there was more than one hole in the target at that range... I've seen how well you shoot! lol... Awesome shooting, awesome little SHTF, food on the table, rifle.
The AR-7 (Armalite-Costa Mesa, Henry Arms or Survival Arms) is a great weapon. By no means a target rifle, but it fits its intended purpose. Now I have one, but when packing I carry a Springfield Armory M-6 scout. Also developed for the U.S.A.F pilots it is heavier, but far better built and more versitile. Mine is in .22 Hornet/.410 and I feel it is great for small game on the .410 and the .22 Hornet is good enough to take down a Texas white tail. Ruger MK-II on the hip for .22 lr needs.
when some thugs broke in to my home and stole guns from me they moved this gun to get to the other ones !! i guess they didn't know it was a gun , i do have to push the mag up to make it cycle ='( other than that it works fine
Thank you for your service. Love ya. NOW for the AR7. I found one local, $200. When I asked which brand he stated it was an "AR Industries" ? Not one one of the makers you mentioned. Do you know what the heck he is talking about? Trying to get the proper one. Thank you
@waterfoodshelter Whoa. I know alot about this rifle, both history and performance. And I have never heard of AR industies making an AR 7. The maker should be stamped on the outside of the rifle receiver. I would love to know what you find out.
I love .22 rifle rounds up to coyotes and to avoid the noise problem, instead of worry about sub sonic, just tape a plastic bottle to the end for those silent times..it works. without worry of jamming. In all honsety, the AR-7 used a .22 hornet when used in service. Much more power. But this gun is well worth burying in a few places.always have a .22 and 500 or so rounds laying around . weight alone makes it worth it.
Thanks for the video, great info, makes you think about what works best for individual needs.I have heard that the Charter Arms version of the AR-7 is very unreliable. Do you have any info on the Marlin Papoose?
Thanks for posting. Good review. Charter Arms AR-7's suffered from lack of a feed ramp inside the barrel chamber. they fixed this problem eventually. One way is to use a rat tail file and GENTLY improve the feed inside the old barrel. Another problem is the magazine. The best are the original 8 round steel mags. Ramline 25 round mags are horrible. A recommendation is to order a spare barrel and pistol grip from an AR-15. You'll figure out why later. .22lr is the best survival round.
@LAZERBEEMofTRUTH I don't make a habit out of saying things that aren't true, I haven't done. I will be leaving my Ruger at home and taking the one in the video.
@Bullydogairsoft I would not go with an SKS unless I was on a very tight budget. But if I had to make a choice from the two, I would get the shotgun. Like I said.
@Yankeeprepper Firstly, which Pathfinder is that. I have the Barometer, Altimeter, and Compass one. Secondly, my local gun store has the AR-7 on it's shelf. Never gotten around to checking it out though. Thanks for the video.
@FriendofCat So go with it dude. It's not what I would do and it's not what the miltary does either. I would not recommend a 22 conversion and ar15 for many reasons. That is why this is what I put up the AR7 in a video for the SHTF.
I've never seen an ar7 up here forsale yet. Must be hard to find now. I was watching this video thinking to myself " I wounder if they make a converion kit for the ruger 10/22 and if not how could I make one myself.
I'm thinking of adding a firearm to my bugout bag and I live in california, I was wondering in your opinion, what the best one is retail that I can get for 200 or less for long term small game hunting and warding unwanted guests during hard times.
Both my Ruger Mark 1 and 10/22 can be a bit finicky with ammo. I went with the Remington Golden Bullet 22LR at Walmart. ($20/500) and they love them. I buy 1000 at a time for later on....lol.
@Yankeeprepper: Yea I checked all over, had alot of negative feedback for some reason...spent about a month researching all the plausible pack rifles....I'm a little disappointed that they supposedly work so well lol because I probably would have picked up the AR7. The Papoose is utterly awesome but the AR7 would have fit my purpose better. Great vid btw
I've done a little bit of research on it and I know what the problem is it's in the string system it won't chamber the next round I can drop a round in and it will fire but it won't chamber the next one. What I found was the spring system will cost me more then what I'm in the gun it's self for so I just made the call and am moving on to the 10/22 with it I know what I'm getting. I got the ar7 at a gun show for dirt cheap so you really do get what you pay for
I have the misfortune of owning a charter arms ar7 survival rifle and it's been nothing but problems. Now it's nothing more then scrape metal to me. I've upgraded to the 10/22 but I'm very bummed because the 2 1/2lbs and what you get from this .22 is great I just found a lemon anyways thanks for the vid
@Jeffstrow hey Jeff, you might want to hop on to the MANY forums and websites that are fan based concerning the AR7. THe AR7 has a huge following and there are lots of tips and quick fixs for those Charter Arms AR7, lots of cool add ons as well. Check it out before you give up on it. You may be able to make it right for yourself.
@Yankeeprepper is a 22 magnum, vastly superior to a 22 long rifle? or not enough difference to justify the mags ammo cost, I was thinking the mag was very powerfull
@federalwarhawk .22 magnum is a great round but is a overpowered for most game I'd hunt with a rimfire. I hunt for food, shoot pests for fun, and the Mag is fine for the second, but not the best for the first. Great on larger animals like groundhogs and got a longer range, but the price of ammo is something to consider. Plus, it's not versitile like a .22 LR, which will shoot LRs or CB caps if you want to go quiet.
Just picked one up at Fleet Farm brand new for under $200. Can't go wrong with that. This is one great, compact, and reliable survival rifle, especially for the price.
I bought one of these a few months ago and I am having trouble firing hollow point bullets. Have you had any jamming issues with yours ? Mine jams when you pull the receiver back and release, it's almost like the muzzle is not lined up properly.
@3939steve Mine operates the way you seen it on the video. I occasionally get a jam, but nothing cronic. It sounds like you have a feed problem for sure. filing the bullet ramp can sometimes solve this, BUT!...you can mess up the accuracy real bad if you take to much off. It's so new though, I would keep putting rounds through it and see if it breaks in. The springs are very stout on these rifles and you have to use good ammo as well.
The Charter Arms version needs a little "TLC" when putting it together in order to work properly : The bolt needs to be pulled back as the barrel ring is tightened, and regular round-nose ammo (not HP) works best (it has the proper ogive for the ramp).
Nice video. This AR-7 would be a nice tool for my cubbies to learn on. I am an older vet with I-Love-Me-Wall expert quals. Problem is I see 20/20 down range & reading glasses. This causes a blurr in my sights. Reccomendations? Thanks
@Yankeeprepper ....LOL....I ain't that blind and hit an old mailbox at 50 yards with my old remington 870 using slugs. Problem is it takes me a while to line it up. Oh well I am getting older but crazy like a fox ;)
who the hell is thumbing down all the comments.Btw good video.Damn i should get one lol! itd be reallly good to get the barrel threaded for a silencer.Get a spring with less push on it so you can cycle them subsonic rounds :]
Yank as for subsonic I hav a Walther Hunter .22 pellet rifle that does pretty good, but for a regular .22 your rifle is an excellent choice. Ive always liked the fact it can stow away in a backpack. Hav u ever fired a fn fal? I hav a belgium made 1 in 7.62 nato. Its what I use to hunt deer when I hav to reach out and touch something past 100 yards.
@yankeeprepper good vid. I've always thawt this was an excellent survival rifle. As for quiet though I have a Walthe Hunter pellet rifle in .22 and it droped a germanshepherd size mutt that was wild n very unfriendly.
I've owned my AR-7 for 30 years, and it's a real shooter. It is picky about which 22 ammo you use (find a brand that works and stick with it), and if you are shooting it a lot, the barrel may start to unscrew. Stick with the 7 or 8 round magazines too, the larger cap ones are problematic. As a survival/backpack rifle it can't be beat because of the size/weight.
Alot of people always talk about a 22s lack of stopping power, compared to large centerfire guns. but if you hit a person with a couple of 22 rounds, I guarantee they will drop, and a 22 lack of recoil and ease of handling make for better accuracy, when you are under extreme stress. A hit with a 22, is better than alot of misses with a 45.
Cool little gun. I've wanted a semi-auto .22 for a while, and I keep bouncing around between an AR-7, Mossberg 702, and a Ruger 1022. Think I might be leaning towards the AR-7 again. After watching a lot of youtube reviews of this gun, I have come to the conclusion that the people who complain about this gun do not know how to keep a rifle functioning.
hello yankeepreper i found a way to keep your powder dry that is your 22 call ammo out of the humid air and safe.
you know those stainless steel water bottles in most store now, i put my 22 call ammo inside, like a mini ammo can, mine holds 525 rounds. it keeps them all in a tight footprint and you don't have them falling out of boxes.
very convenient as i go to the range frequently to practice marksmanship.
As a note to the below comment, I'd like to say that the only problems I ever encountered with the AR-7 were when aftermarket, non-factory mags were used.
I picked up a Charter Arms version of one of these in 1985 when they were only $75.00. I never had any problems with feed or function and was amazed that it was so accurate with a screw-on barrel.
Thanks for sharing, Yank. This little rifle deserves more praise than it has received. It is incredibly versatile.
I'm not really a gun guy, but I like your videos so I watched this one. I've got two guns just for home protection and focus my preps around medical and caloric needs for me and my family. My friends are the gun nuts and they've got my back in that respect. These idiots who give you trouble have no b/u and will kneel before their executors with urine in their pants before they have a chance to fight, because they have no friends to watch out for them.
Thanks and I appreciate your words. There are times when you really feel that you are "tossing your pearls before swine" , and to a certain extent I am while posting on YOUTUBE. But when I hear from viewers like you I also know that I am with my peers as well. in the real world I can choose who I am sharing company with and I do, not so much on YOUTUBE.
Looks like a great rifle! I've never seen one before. I agree with you about the Ruger 10/22 its an awsome rifle. I have 2 and I'll buy more of them if I find them at a good price. I figure I could use them as a trading item if TSHTF and I need something I hadn't stored myself or thought I'd need or want. Great vid man, good shootin'!
Anyone comparing a 45acp pistol to a 22 carbine is out of their mind in the first place. as you mentioned in your caliber of choice video "BALLISTICS IS EVERYTHING". then say what you want about how well YOU can shoot. not a man who owns a gun would trust a 45acp round to a hundred yards, much less 230. fuckin nuts. just nuts.
If I could somehow supernaturally strain out the 'rocks" I would. I would rather have 40 good subscribers than 100 wannabes. It's pollution. I don't hang around with them in the real world and I don't want them near me here either. The people that think "guns" give them special powers because they read about it in a magazine or going to be victims when the SHTF.
my neighbor owned one! he used it all the time, i mean ALL THE TIMETO! he was always in the woods or fishing, i dont think he ever really bought meat, except for what he paid for good 22 shells and that little rifle!
I think this is more about small game, a SHTF sammich and evading detection. .45 can do 100 yrds w good energy, seen it, butt you will hear that, and it wouldn't leave much squirrel and expensive and heavy ammo
Yeah sure you can there ACE. I tell you what, why don't you show us. Make a video showing yourself making 3 inch or less group shot with a your 45 pistol at 75 feet. No use wasting your time here with all of us guys that don't believe you and think you are full of shit.
I got to say to just based on YOUR comment that you "would rather have a 45 bscause you can hit a guy better at long range with it" , Now, I don't know how much combat experience you have had with a pistol, but I wonder how many guys are gonna let you "bench rest" your 45 while you are shooting at them? Does that happen alot where you are from?
Just to let you know I fire my .45 at 100 yards all the time offhand and hit 12" gongs. check out hickok45s page and watch him hit targets at 230 yards offhand with small pistols.
You know what really bothers me about YOUTUBE Matt? Lot's of talk. Lots of guys on Youtube buy a gun and read a gun magazine think they know everything. I love to shoot and shoot alot. Been shooting a long time.
Now, I know you are probably not one of those guys I mentioned early. But if you are going to make a comment about shooting a 45 vs a 22, be ready to back it up. I don't care about Hickock, I don't comment on or watch his channel, i don't care about reviews. Back it up.
I guess your jealous that hickok45 can out shoot you with a pistol at long range. A .22 is the worst choice for self defense end of the world protection. Total garbage. I said I rather have a pistol.
I tried posting an intro video from my cell phone that will take and send 30 secs of video just to say howdy to anyone wondering who i am but for some reason keep getting a no vid file response back. does anyone know what thats about? i thought maybe the vid was to short but there are vids here of 10secs so i doubt thats the case?
@ Mr. Y.P. I'm starting to prep and been getting great ideas from ur vids. I'm not much for posting vids. I'm a single gal 29 and have 2 cats. I want to prep for myself and any friends and family. hard to do. since i'll most likely be by myself, I'm looking for a protection rifle, hand gun that are legal in wisconsin.
If I had a limit of 300 bucks to get a rifle AND a pistol for SHTF prep. I would get a used SKS and a CZ 52. You could get both of them and probably still have money left over for a little ammo. THese are both low budget weapons with good performace. The CZ 52 is one of the best deals out there. Do your own research into these weapons of course. But that's what I would do.
I've always been interested in those survival rifle designs, though unfortunately don't get to go out and use it in the environment it was intended for. Is it a good plinker rifle?
Short answer: 300. Well right now im working on registering my vehicle in a different county cuz it didnt pass emitions in my county. so if i can do that i should have about 300 to spend in the future if not i wont have anything cuz ill be paying for a new car loan i can stretch this car anouther yr before having to do that.
300 will buy you alot of very good weapons. What do you need it to do? I believe you should start with a good rifle first. But it's really up to you and your circumstances.
@ harley Is that what that was all about? idk never been in a gun range. I stick to the video games but want to venture further then just that i want to have it in my hands and feel the force (non jedi). I used to shoot a b.b. gun back in my early 20's when i'd party with my bro we would go to the basement and shoot out empty beer bottles or some nasty corona and THAT was fun! So Mr. Y.P. where do i start i'm so hyped!
Sweet little rifle! Will have to find one for my SHTF gear!! Thanks!!!

@STfrontiersman I have not found 5 gallon buckets to be reliable caches. They let moisture in.

There is a reason why you won't see the 22 in combat anywhere in the world. Because it's a 22. You can throw rocks to a guess, but there are better picks.
Yankeeprepper 9 months ago
@Yankeeprepper I just want to pint out to you that the m16 series every Nato country and their respective rifles are chambered in 22 or .223/5.56.
You pop off ten rounds of hot 22lr from a rifle length barrel into someone it is lethal and can put someone down. Hinkley did all the damage he did to Regan, Brady and a Secret Service agent with a 22LR revolver. The main attraction to this rifle is it is light and compact.
usarmycaptainamerica 8 months ago
@usarmycaptainamerica The 22 and the 223 may share the same diameter but you should try and placing a 223 bullet on to a 22 shell case. The 22LR and the 223 are not the same obviosly and the 223 is a sucky combat round anyway. The Ar-7 makes the ultimate SHTF 22 CAL rifle in my opinion, not the ultimate combat weapon. If you prefer something else, make a video and put it on your channel.
Yankeeprepper 8 months ago
Newbie question. By subsonic rounds, do you mean .22shorts? Or perhaps .22 long rifle loaded with less powder?
Inodie1 9 months ago
@Inodie1 5 second search on google - Wilkipedia: "Subsonic rounds have a muzzle velocity less than the speed of sound (approximately 1,080 ft/s (330 m/s)). These rounds are sometimes equipped with extra heavy bullets of 46–61-grain (3.0–4.0 g) to improve the terminal ballistics of the slower projectile. Conversely, these rounds may contain little more than a primer and an extra-light bullet."
Yankeeprepper 9 months ago
How does the AR 7 tolerate being dirty? In an SHTF event, if the rifle got dirty while assembled and carried, could you still trust it to fire? Appreciate all your videos. If your up in Manitoba some time, dinner is on me. Cheers!

Thank you YP! Good vid! I am gonna pull out my AR 7 from the bottom of the safe today. You have inspired me to put it in service again.

I have had mine for about 15 years as well. Great little rifle except for the butt plate. I have to tape it in place to keep from losing it. I called Henry Arms and they replaced it but it still requires taping to hold it in place.
DanielSnedden 10 months ago
what is the shelf life of 22 rounds and will a vaccume sealer help
newbeprepper 10 months ago
@newbeprepper ammo shelf life has many variables. Consider temp, humidity etc. If stored cool and dry, ammo will last decades. Vacuum sealing ammo is a great idea.
Yankeeprepper 10 months ago
@141kessler The m6 doesn't pack down to a butt, doesn't float, weighs almost 5 pounds with no ammo (compared to 3 pounds with ammo in the AR7. I will have a rifle and most likely a 357 with me in a SHTF. I want a lightweight relieable packable 22 that can fit in a side pocket until I need it.
Yankeeprepper 10 months ago
which version of the ruger 10/22 do you like? tactical, sporter, carbine..etc?
ro9beam2002 1 year ago
@ro9beam2002 I have the sporter but I don't think it matters that much. I don't like the look of the tactical, it looks cheap to me But I am sure it all operates the same.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
@eyewarnedyou Sorry I hit "remove" to your question, the new YT format still has me making mistakes, I thought I was hitting the "reply". I have never thrown ammo away, ever. The worst that can happen is it won't fire. 22 ammo is notoriously famous for not having a long shelf shelf. I would good out and test some.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
@eyewarnedyou You won't have the range, but it will take small game.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
@eyewarnedyou Sub sonic ammo is used for quiet operations. By loading less powder into the round you can decrease the noise level.

@dunklersoldat I prefer the AR 7 for a SHTF/survival rifle.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
Yankeeprepper, what is your opinion of the Henry Arms AR-7 survival rifle. I was looking at purchasing one and have been doing my research. From what I see it has a 3 magazine storage capacity (one in the action and 2 storage places.) since it comes with 2 I have been wondering whether to buy an extra mag or use the extra place for ammo and/or cleaning supplies.
bbyersonthesax 1 year ago
that thing has a very tight grouping and looks to be very compact but overall would you reccomend it for a shtf
uMebEach777 1 year ago
@uMebEach777 No I would not recommend this for the SHTF, I made the video and named it "the ultimate SHTF 22" because I like idle conversation.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
love your stuff, worth watching.

Iamcartmanxd 1 year ago
just want you to know, I saw this rifle in person for the first time a week ago in the shooting range, the guy let me try it and go on about the advantages of it, exactly what you say. To light for me, but he showed me, 30 yrds ( max. in that range ) almost as good as me with the scoped 10/22 provided by the range I used. He said with more practice he will get better, he got it like a month and loves it so much.
manunggal 1 year ago
I have been trying to remember the name/maker of that survival rifle for years! Haven't seen one in forever. Thank you! I have to say I'm surprised that there was more than one hole in the target at that range... I've seen how well you shoot! lol... Awesome shooting, awesome little SHTF, food on the table, rifle.
NeoPrepper 1 year ago
The AR-7 (Armalite-Costa Mesa, Henry Arms or Survival Arms) is a great weapon. By no means a target rifle, but it fits its intended purpose. Now I have one, but when packing I carry a Springfield Armory M-6 scout. Also developed for the U.S.A.F pilots it is heavier, but far better built and more versitile. Mine is in .22 Hornet/.410 and I feel it is great for small game on the .410 and the .22 Hornet is good enough to take down a Texas white tail. Ruger MK-II on the hip for .22 lr needs.

Thank you for your service. Love ya. NOW for the AR7. I found one local, $200. When I asked which brand he stated it was an "AR Industries" ? Not one one of the makers you mentioned. Do you know what the heck he is talking about? Trying to get the proper one. Thank you
waterfoodshelter 1 year ago
@waterfoodshelter Whoa. I know alot about this rifle, both history and performance. And I have never heard of AR industies making an AR 7. The maker should be stamped on the outside of the rifle receiver. I would love to know what you find out.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
I love .22 rifle rounds up to coyotes and to avoid the noise problem, instead of worry about sub sonic, just tape a plastic bottle to the end for those silent times..it works. without worry of jamming. In all honsety, the AR-7 used a .22 hornet when used in service. Much more power. But this gun is well worth burying in a few places.always have a .22 and 500 or so rounds laying around . weight alone makes it worth it.
Justaguyinnc 1 year ago
Thanks for the video, great info, makes you think about what works best for individual needs.I have heard that the Charter Arms version of the AR-7 is very unreliable. Do you have any info on the Marlin Papoose?
1278dave 1 year ago
Thanks for posting. Good review. Charter Arms AR-7's suffered from lack of a feed ramp inside the barrel chamber. they fixed this problem eventually. One way is to use a rat tail file and GENTLY improve the feed inside the old barrel. Another problem is the magazine. The best are the original 8 round steel mags. Ramline 25 round mags are horrible. A recommendation is to order a spare barrel and pistol grip from an AR-15. You'll figure out why later. .22lr is the best survival round.

@federalwarhawk But if you are defending yourself from a gopher it would be great. IMHO of course,
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
@federalwarhawk You need to talk to someone that thinks a 22 is an acceptable defensive weapon.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
@Yankeeprepper is a 22 magnum, vastly superior to a 22 long rifle? or not enough difference to justify the mags ammo cost, I was thinking the mag was very powerfull
because it was so much louder, than a 22 LR.
federalwarhawk 1 year ago
@federalwarhawk .22 magnum is a great round but is a overpowered for most game I'd hunt with a rimfire. I hunt for food, shoot pests for fun, and the Mag is fine for the second, but not the best for the first. Great on larger animals like groundhogs and got a longer range, but the price of ammo is something to consider. Plus, it's not versitile like a .22 LR, which will shoot LRs or CB caps if you want to go quiet.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
Just picked one up at Fleet Farm brand new for under $200. Can't go wrong with that. This is one great, compact, and reliable survival rifle, especially for the price.
BrandoLaBs 1 year ago
I bought one of these a few months ago and I am having trouble firing hollow point bullets. Have you had any jamming issues with yours ? Mine jams when you pull the receiver back and release, it's almost like the muzzle is not lined up properly.
3939steve 1 year ago
@3939steve Mine operates the way you seen it on the video. I occasionally get a jam, but nothing cronic. It sounds like you have a feed problem for sure. filing the bullet ramp can sometimes solve this, BUT!...you can mess up the accuracy real bad if you take to much off. It's so new though, I would keep putting rounds through it and see if it breaks in. The springs are very stout on these rifles and you have to use good ammo as well.
Yankeeprepper 1 year ago
The Charter Arms version needs a little "TLC" when putting it together in order to work properly : The bolt needs to be pulled back as the barrel ring is tightened, and regular round-nose ammo (not HP) works best (it has the proper ogive for the ramp).

Yank as for subsonic I hav a Walther Hunter .22 pellet rifle that does pretty good, but for a regular .22 your rifle is an excellent choice. Ive always liked the fact it can stow away in a backpack. ewfisher89 2 years ago
GordonWalton 2 years ago
Alot of people always talk about a 22s lack of stopping power, compared to large centerfire guns. but if you hit a person with a couple of 22 rounds, I guarantee they will drop, and a 22 lack of recoil and ease of handling make for better accuracy, when you are under extreme stress. A hit with a 22, is better than alot of misses with a 45.

Thanks Yank. I was wondering about this gun. One of the more popular survivalists out there "Cody Lundin" talks about this gun and other .22's.

Please, try some of those .22 "cb's" for us man the next time you hunt.
Mr Lundin talks about getting a group of rabbits in a glen and shooting several of them before they knew they were being hunted.

hello yankeepreper i found a way to keep your powder dry that is your 22 call ammo out of the humid air and safe.
you know those stainless steel water bottles in most store now, i put my 22 call ammo inside, like a mini ammo can, mine holds 525 rounds. it keeps them all in a tight footprint and you don't have them falling out of boxes.
very convenient as i go to the range frequently to practice marksmanship.

I guess your jealous that hickok45 can out shoot you with a pistol at long range. A .22 is the worst choice for self defense end of the world protection. Total garbage. I said I rather have a pistol.

LOL! That is what I thought....

tripmatt1,
I know nothing about firearms, but that does not stop you and others from making comments so why should i let it stop me.
I would recommend you re watch YP vid.
I just watched the hickok45 vid, the .44 Magnum, very good marksmanship. He it the target 50% of the time and took about 15 seconds between shots.
Can you work out why a rifle would be better?

Very nice. I'd love to get my hands on one. I keep an eye out for this one for sure.

It's great as a pack rifle for small game.
Not fun just to shoot. To awkward.

Range looks familiar to me.
I get angry and watchers and chatters with a lack of respect as well.
Thanks for the video. I like the 10/22 as well, but will start looking for an ar7.
