This is how you can tell a paid city deparment from others they tend to not have the right PPE to fight a grass fire and don't get the correct resoures.
Wow!! Lake Station should call the INDR Fire Headquarters and get some serious training in how to attack the different wildlands within the state! I don't think I would be attacking the head of the fire with a flapper especially with 10 foot flame lengths.
@N44949 Actually command was smart about this. Nothing was in danger other than brush so he let the bulk of it burn off wile firefighters stopped some of the spread. There really wasn't a need for a brush truck, besides the whole area was really muddy. Would have gotten stuck no doubt
@homeyroberts The fire was quite a distance to run a hose down to the fire, the firefighters were wearing packs with water in them and others had pump cans with water in them. The things they were using are actually called beaters.
@MIoldtimer Well, you would have to use a half-ton instead of a dually. Though it seems the trend is toward designing heavy brush trucks which doesn't make sense. But that fire, though heavy, looks to be slow moving.
please tell me u had gear on when u was standing in the brush with it working to u and u fot to love the good ol mud flaps on a mop stick

The flapped

a few guys with pump cans can do a decent job also just stay behind the fire and work into it, not much to get excited about

I bet if they brought out a 6x6 that would not get stuck out there. It is nearly impossible to get them stuck in just mud.

@mabas21 THAT is why you have brush trucks.

@dixievfd55 Like Ed said, the field was all mud. Why chance getting a brush truck stuck?

cpDq231 1 year ago
@cpDq231 I would guess kids, the fire was in the middle of an empty field that was muddy and pretty soaked at the ground level
