I've had mine done for 5 years. It didn't hurt at all. They don't heal completely. My piercer was shocked when I came in a year later and still had all 3 of my surface piercings and I told him they'd never been infected. I've never met anyone who's had them longer than 6 months or so. But if they last they look super good!!

well, surface piercing all have a veeery high probability that they will reject/pop out of your skin eventually. mostly it's just about taking care of them right, so it takes longer for them to do so =]

like try not bumping them strongly against stuff too often, salt water soaks and sutff like that, ESPECIALLY in the first 4-6 months.

you can get microdermals instead, there about permenant, and there rejection rate is 2%. I think it's more painful though and if you want it removed, they will have to cut through your skin. Surface only last around 3-1 year even if they dont get rejected.

Just try REALLY hard not to bump them once they're done. From what I understand, microdermal implants are a little better, but if you get the bars, I'd get the ones with 90 degree angles, about an inch long (the longer, the better), and make sure the tops of them are flat instead of balls or spikes, cuz they are less likely to catch on anything.

It's not guaranteed to grow out (reject), and piercing can do that, it just depends on how well you take care of it and if it was pierced in the proper spot. Generally hip surface piercings do reject within the first year though, mostly because the hip is bumped around alot and whatnot, especially if you exersize/have gym class/ect..

If your worried about it rejecting, get microdermal anchors on your hip.
