Yeah, bleeding heart or not, what was the point in getting into a shootout in a motel? Those places have insurance to cover robbery loses. I don't care what you gun nuts say, that was just reckless and stupid.
Pay attention to what happened....the guy first moved into a clear line of fire. He didn't just start unloading his weapon. He handled the situation exactly right - I'd guess he was well trained.
Actually the robber survived and is now in prison. It's a shame our tax dollars have to be wasted on that low life, but hopefully he'll tell all his follow inmates about his experience and they'll learn that the consequences of armed robbery can be a hell of a lot more severe then prison time.

Besides, seeing the footage, there was ample space between the child and the line of fire; bullets don't magically curve out of the line and, since every shot hit its mark, the clerk knew what he was doing.

Thats from the skewed high angle view, that was really a very safe set of shots (except perhaps for the robber). The security guy got his fire superiority just fine and dominated the situation. First off, the lady should of moved after seeing the guy with the gun. That's just plain common sense.
Second, the clerk didn't use her as a human shield. He was using her to block the view of the gunman so he could'nt see he was reaching for his gun.
Third, the gunman shot first, so even if he was running he still posed a threat cause yes I believe he could have returned.

Pay attention to what happened....the guy first moved into a clear line of fire. He didn't just start unloading his weapon. He handled the situation exactly right - I'd guess he was well trained.

Actually the robber survived and is now in prison. It's a shame our tax dollars have to be wasted on that low life, but hopefully he'll tell all his follow inmates about his experience and they'll learn that the consequences of armed robbery can be a hell of a lot more severe then prison time.

The robber made his intentions utterly clear when he brandished his weapon in a threatening manner and it's foolhardy to assume less than that.
As for the kid, the child was a good few feet away from the line of fire. Since bullets don't curve away from that line and all shots hit their mark, it's safe to say that the clerk knew what he was doing.

The robber was running away when the clerk shot him. Had their not been a child present I would have shot the frickin robber. BUT, there was a child present and the robber was running away. It is clear at that point; NO GUNFIRE WAS WARRANTED. The robber was leaving and no shots had been fired.

First off, why should the presence of a child matter? Unless the kid was in the line of fire (which the kid wasn't in this video), it doesn't matter. The robber was a threat to the kid anyways.
Plus, the robber was a threat. If you respond, you must act in a way that ensures that the robber can't effectively act.
He may be running away or he may be running for cover so he could try to fire back; you can't be certain of what he'll do and, frankly, you must assume the worst.

Moron. The robber didn't drop the gun, didn't put his hands up, and didn't say "I surrender". For all we know, he was retreating to a position of cover to return fire. The clerk continued to fire to ensure the robber could not harm him.

How can you be certain that the kid wasn't in danger if everybody cooperated?
Cooperation is no guarantee of safety because you can't be certain of the attacker's intent; what if he was disappointed with his take and decides to kill in frustration?
Besides, seeing the footage, there was ample space between the child and the line of fire; bullets don't magically curve out of the line and, since every shot hit its mark, the clerk knew what he was doing.

Thats from the skewed high angle view, that was really a very safe set of shots (except perhaps for the robber). The security guy got his fire superiority just fine and dominated the situation. Any way you slice it its dangerous for everyone, but that danger was brought by the robber, not the security.

If you were the attacker and were rapidly and accurately being shot at by your victim from complete surprise, I doubt you'd even think about shooting back.
I dare say, the first thought in your head may be this: "Holy shit!"
And, even if you could try to fire back, that may be difficult since those shots would be serious enough to incapacitate you, effectively neutralizing you as a threat.

If the robber had seen him draw, he could have fired first, and there would have been 4 innocent people dead instead of the broken glass.
