@fndjfgsdk well at the moment it is Coming out of My NCMA the money i get paid from my College, and a Bit off My parents my Parents mostly, i will have to repay them back allot .
but i will have to get a Job as that is the only way to pay for it :/
@avaitionnerd111 It is unfortunate, you put so much work in to fly the widebodies only to find out your pension is gone, salary is decreased to help the company but it still goes under, list goes on but i'm sure you know that song and dance..When I finish my training i'm looking to do corporate, its the better piece of the pie right now.
@DaMagicConchShell well airlines like American are Running a 24HR operation remember.
they are constantly paying out money for; New Aircraft , Advertising , Employees , Aviation Fuel , everything plus the economy in the USA isnt too good !
its quite easy For Airlines to go bust , but still Operate Continental Airlines went Bankrupt twice , its amazing there still operating today
As a locomotive engineer for a Class 1 railroad, I can relate to many of the aspects of this video, especially the away from home terminal life. It does indeed kill the passion when you make your hobby your career, but for those twisted enough to not need a social life and have a family to support (financially and with mere presence at home) it does become your lifestyle. That being said, and from this outsider looking in, this video is a masterpiece.
Thought this was going to be good, but I was wrong. Stupid video and really stupid music. Tells me the person who posted this really a stupid dumb ass.
i dont see how having 3 days off isnt a social life... unless your talking about vacationing every month. but.. idk. I've talked to alot of Airline pilots and i get the same stories. You fly a certain amount of hours a month and when your done your off, unless they call you to fill in for someone. Which by the way isn't an obligation and doesnt go against you. If you want the extra hours. Great, if not then great again. You have already done your job.
I dont understand why people are going crazy about being in debt $100,000. at a salary an airline pilot makes. That debt should be paid off in 4 years at least. If people are running away from a job because of loans then they can work like everyone else with a biweekly salary that barely gets you through. OR, fly for the airlines make 56,000 a year starting salary, pay loans and still have enough money to go on vacation. My mentor flys Boeing 747s and he has 3 days work and 3 days off.
@robyh09 This would be true if you could get a job with the airlines right out the gate. Most graduates go to the regionals, ie Pinnacle, ASA, Skywest, starting pay 20000, moves quickly to 30000 in 2-3 years. Your not looking at 56,000 until 5-6 years at a regional. Also to get a job with the airlines your going to need more time than commercial pilot minimums, 250, somewhere like 750 min if your lucky. Bridge the gap with even lower paying jobs like flight instructing 3-5 years
Im not trying to ruin the fun but a lot of people seem to be blind.
most young people do not understand the fact that if you become an airline pilot, you will have no social life, no family life and you will be deeply in debt for most of your life for taking out a £100,000 loan for your license.
Ask any airline pilot today if its worth becoming one in todays world, you will get the same answer.
As much passion I had/have for flying planes, I stopped myself from taking that route. It wrecks it
@RainfulPhenix And to that I say horse shit! Flying an airliner is the same thing as flying a corporate jet, legacy what ever. You can still have a family, you can still have friends (as a matter of fact most the airline become friends) and relationships? Don't get me started. How most of you people are naive and think it's just one thing is so damn stereo type. I feel sorry you didn't go for the airlines. Big mistake. I won't make that mistake. All my airline friends say "It's the life".
Its stereotypical thinking that pilots have the best life ever, flying planes for a living, being in that ideal, lovely life. I live near the airport. I know enough pilots to know what is going on. Every pilot I have spoken to more or less admitted that its a passion killer. They no longer treat their job as a passion. Its a high stressful job that strains your free time. Some of them just have to work while their family is on holiday. "its the life" isnt it?
@RainfulPhenix Flying huge aircraft going to every place in the world, have a view of 35,000ft flying to different countries. Well paid job, having an ever changing experience. Experiencing different foods, places and having all the perks that could possibly come from the airline. That to me sounds like the best job in the world. If you want to keep flying Cessna aircraft (which I don't have a problem with) then sure that's fine. But if I can make a carrier out of this incredible thing, I will.
If you're willing to fill in long flight analysis forms everytime you fly, take out a loan of £100,000 and struggle to pay it back for the rest of your life, fine.
I have no problem with people becoming pilots, some of the things you said is surely true, but you dont travel around the world experiencing ddifferent foods or places. Its not a tourist thing. You will be in a hotel for most of your time.
Become an airline pilot and you will understand what im talking about.
I am a 16 year old kid who really loves anything related to aviation. I am a frequent flier with American Airlines and have achieved Permanent Platinum status. I just hit the 3 million mile marker! My lifetime goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. I have a 3.611 GPA and am 4th in my class. I have flown small airplanes such as Cessna 172 and a Piper Cherokee. All in all I love the sound of flying. Do you have any advice that would help me obtain that goal? Thanks and one heck of a video!
@avaitionnerd111Thanks for the response! I have contacted a local airport a few weeks ago and have talked to a flight instructor there. I will be starting my pilot experience in early spring. I am studying for the written now and then progress through the many steps until finally achieving my goal of an airline pilot! I will be flying to Germany tomorrow for about ten days and I actually will upload a video of my flight once I come back!Again thanks for the video and the advice!
@FrapsYou My family is not rich, I work for my dad part time and he owns a company in the model airplane industry. If you know anybody who owns a business, you know that they are not rich, all of the money is invested into the business to try to keep it afloat. I just am involved with the business and go to meetings with him all around the world since I will probably take it over someday. I am in the middle class, not rich and not poor. I am a 16 year old kid has worked harder than
@FrapsYou a lot of 16 year olds. I have been able to work while still keeping my grades up and being able to participate in extra-curricular activities. My family is not rich.
@NormanMartin1000 Go military if you can. Then you get everything paid for.
I'd hit up a CFR 61 Flight school and start taking lessons. At 16 you can hold a student pilot certificate and at 17 get your private. It's expensive but a step forward in your career if you don't go military. You'll have to work up in your ratings to an ATP and build some time. Try finding a college with an aviation program so you can get your 4 year degree and fly with the majors later on.
@MaroonCamaro Thanks for the advice! I would have went the military route, but there was only one problem; I am color deficient and the military won't except anyone with that disability. I have checked with a AME and he guaranteed me that I would be able to pass a 1st Class medical with no waivers. Therefore, the civilian route works, but not the military route. /: Again, I appreciate that you took the time to give me some advice. Thanks!
@NormanMartin1000 and also if you want to get your hours for a major airline like Delta, American Airlines, Continental join a commuter airline ASA, Comair, Skywest, Mesaba
@FS98FSX Thanks, I appreciate any advice! I will hope to be able to fly for some sort of regional airline like American Eagle and then work my way up to American Airlines. I just hope that there will be jobs available! Thanks again for the advice!
@rev4life03 I understand that American is going through bankruptcy now, which is really a shame, but you do have to realize that American is one of the only American based airlines that has never filed for bankrupcy! That alone is impressive! By the time I am going to be searching for a career at the proffesional level of a commercial airline pilot, American's bankrupcy will be long over and for all I know, it might be striving! My only hope is to be hired by an airline to build up some hours!
@NormanMartin1000 go to Embry-riddle university after you graduate from high school. thats where im going this summer to get my carreer in aeronautics in science
@avaitionnerd111 Hi, im 20 years old taking Aircraft maintenance Engineering and pursue my license after my graduation. Im planning on being a pilot after i get my license on AME. Do you think its a great plan to start this career?
@mrdiamondback1 Well you have to accolade flight hours before airlines hire you. Normally to work for an airline like American, you have to gather at least 2500. A good way to get hours is to join the Air Force. Good grades to get into the Air Force are about Straight A's if you want a sure spot. Maybe some B's are ok.
Hey aviationnerd111 i got a question im looking to become a pilot whats the best way to go? Should i fly for the military then retire commercially or just shoot for a commercial pilot? Thanks much.
@hamzathespartan117 that's the problem with aviation . too many would and it makes it able for airlines to have the pilot or mechanic(oddly enough the people that an airline can't live without & formed the industry) to take a pay cut while management (who is merely support staff for the people who created the industry and should be despensable) never take a pay cut. the pilot should be the last person ever asked to take a pay cut.
@hamzathespartan117 without pilots there would have been no airlines period. airlines did not create the job of pilot , pilots created the airlines. one adventure at a time . the airline executive is subordinate or should be to the pilot. also without the mechanic (the pilots friends in antiquity) there would be no planes to operate. the executives are there merely to sell tickets and get money for equipment , they can be done without pilots can do that like they used to do, and should.
@hamzathespartan117 the only reason airline executive came into being was pilots needed somebody to sell tickets and do paperwork. exectutives(in this case) should be the ones getting the pay cut is all I"m saying .
@circusboy90210 yeah I totally agree with you. Pilots should be the last to recieve the paycuts. It should definatly be an executive to recieve the pay cut. All other members such as Mechanics, Flight Attendants, ETC shouldn't have to deal with these pay cuts
@hamzathespartan117 thing is executives probably cook the books to make it look like they are losing money. airlines do not pay the same price for kerosene(jet fuel) as anybody else and buy in such bulk that the bulk price is next to nothing.
@circusboy90210 Hmm cool those executives. But sadly the executives have access to everything so they could mess with the stuff but again I have to agree
@hamzathespartan117 No you wouldn't. It's a lot of work. This video is a fairy tale honestly. You have to do so much training, so much recurrent training, spend almost 100,000 dollars to get all this training, get paid almost nothing for years, accumulating lots of debt, and working for 14 days straight
@minimusmax It's fun, but you wouldn't do it for free lol. I wouldn't do this for less than $10,000 a year (Some airline pilots only make $19k in their first year.... It's sad).
@minimusmax It's fun, but you wouldn't do it for free lol. I wouldn't do this for less than $10,000 a year (Some airline pilots only make $19k in their first year.... It's sad).
@minimusmax And that's not all, once your poor after investing the near 100 000 dollars, You'll join the ever growing community of thousands of unemployed pilots with frozen ATPL and 200h fly time, then you can either invest another 40 000 for a pay to fly job, or 40 000 for a type rating... Airline pilot life aint easy.. at least in the first 3 years... true story...

@circusboy90210 Yeah. Without the Pilots the airline wouldn't be able to get money. They shouldn't be cutting the pilots salary
hamzathespartan117 3 months ago
@hamzathespartan117 without pilots there would have been no airlines period. airlines did not create the job of pilot , pilots created the airlines. one adventure at a time . the airline executive is subordinate or should be to the pilot. also without the mechanic (the pilots friends in antiquity) there would be no planes to operate. the executives are there merely to sell tickets and get money for equipment , they can be done without pilots can do that like they used to do, and should.

@circusboy90210 ummm okay then
hamzathespartan117 3 months ago
@hamzathespartan117 the only reason airline executive came into being was pilots needed somebody to sell tickets and do paperwork. exectutives(in this case) should be the ones getting the pay cut is all I"m saying .
circusboy90210 3 months ago
@circusboy90210 yeah I totally agree with you. Pilots should be the last to recieve the paycuts. It should definatly be an executive to recieve the pay cut. All other members such as Mechanics, Flight Attendants, ETC shouldn't have to deal with these pay cuts
hamzathespartan117 3 months ago
@hamzathespartan117 thing is executives probably cook the books to make it look like they are losing money. airlines do not pay the same price for kerosene(jet fuel) as anybody else and buy in such bulk that the bulk price is next to nothing.
circusboy90210 3 months ago
@circusboy90210 Hmm cool those executives. But sadly the executives have access to everything so they could mess with the stuff but again I have to agree
hamzathespartan117 3 months ago
@hamzathespartan117 No you wouldn't. It's a lot of work. This video is a fairy tale honestly. You have to do so much training, so much recurrent training, spend almost 100,000 dollars to get all this training, get paid almost nothing for years, accumulating lots of debt, and working for 14 days straight

@minimusmax It's fun, but you wouldn't do it for free lol. I wouldn't do this for less than $10,000 a year (Some airline pilots only make $19k in their first year....
