I hate to point this out, but Instant Runoff is a distraction:

It filters out spoilers but does not allow third parties and independents to win:

I Ireland only 1 third party or independent ever won the presidency. Australia basically has only 2 parties.. IRV is a distraction preventing true reform.

A better system in range/score-voting:

One scores one's choices between -100 and +100 and add up the votes.

the democrats don't want instant runoff voting because with instant runoff more & more people will feel safe voting 3rd party, and soon enough the "democrats" will be voted out of office, as they don't deliver what the electorate wants. the "democrats" don't want a system that functions democratically because they don't care about democracy or representing the public will. all they care about is staying in power.
