Brutality.High stakes.Player operated market. These all go hand in hand. The fact that it's possible to loose 90% of the things you have worked months for in less than a minute is something unique to EvE. Unlike wow, when your character is killed, or when you loose your ship. It's gone. Your character is dead (but reincarnated through cloning) and your lifeless corpse can be seen floating in space. Your ship explodes, it's gone, and with it 50% of your gear (which any one can take). High stakes.

Complexity can be good, as well overwhelming. It may not be for everyone, and this is big with EvE. With complexity their is variation. With this in mind I will state that ccp has done an excellent job in creating a mmo that has a finely tuned variation in it, so vast it's mind blowing (this variation adds to the complexity additionally). I could only begin to name a few of the career paths which you can pursue, and the equipment available to help you accomplish it.

Now (I'm going to give you the common) "if you were truly a EvE player" you wouldn't ask why wow has millions of subscribers compared to eve. EvE is complex - Most people give up after a few hours due to this, but seriously if you can completely figure out the clockwork of a mmo inside and out in a few hours than how long do you seriously believe it will be entertaining to play 3 months later after you've maxed leveled and have been doing pretty much the same thing over and over and over again?

well when u run on a low graphic content it opens up a door to all those player who cant afford an advanced computor. I remember when i started eve i made my trial account then viewed the prequisites and was shocked on how much was recomended . I had to buy an entirely new computor to run it. ( my old one was a piece of junk though, bought it back in 04 it wouldnt fit any moder day video cards and memory.

This game will run on low end cards, it even ran on my GeForce 3 card, an thats pretty damn old nowadays.

So no, the game was fine back then, anything out today that can't run it, really isn't worth the money... at all.

well there are many reasons why wow has millions of subscribers, one being they do advertise substantially (I remember watching wow commercials during the Superbowl), the games low graphic content can be run on just about any stock computer (stock on board video memory/processor(s)... it will work), so they are widely compatible with peoples computer(s).

Because WOW is an easy game to get into, it takes no thinking or initiative of the player, at least not compared to eve-online. Most people like their hand to be held all the way till the end. In eve you are on your own and you can get 'punished' hard for being stupid. Most people like easy things so they play WOW. Graphics of EVE are superior to WOW, but it is harder to render fantasy setting then empty space. In fantasy RPG, I would say Aion and Rappelz has much better graphics then WOW.

Raz -- this game isn't lonely at all unless you want to fly off into deep space all by yourself. I started playing EVE and was befriended by a number of different pilots.

If you need a place to take a break and you dont wanna get stuck in a station with a gank squad outside, try to make Hides. start at the gate and jump to one place. In flight bookmark at random. go back to that bookmark and fly to another completely different place. repeat as before and bookmark again in flight. Name the last bookmark "Hide". Now when in trouble in that system jump to this hide and you will be safe from all but the most experienced pilots.

How can an experienced pilot find you when you random-jump through several unknown systems? Sounds like looking for the needle in a haystack to me :)

Randomly jumping through hostile systems is a really bad idea, if you don't both looking at player population, and ship destruction statistics on the map, you'll never know what is waiting for you on the other side. :x

I'll be starting Eve in the new year when Christmas is out of the way, and I have upgraded my sys, but I just have a couple of questions that have been bugging me:

1, Can you get into those clouds?

2, I'm not much of a team player, but as so many web sites go on about joining corporations, how many playes play solo making money, and keep out of everyones way unless attacked?

Thats what I do. I rat (killing non player characters) in 0.0 all the time. I've joined a few corps, but I always end up going solo. Of course, you'll probably have to wait 6 months before venturing into 0.0 alone.

Thanks. Well I have have a 'career plan' laid out in my mind, like I did to when I played Elite & Elite Frontier. What ship you got, as I like speed and the Stiletto is the fastest ship in the game. Plus I guess you don't know about the clouds. Nevermind, looking at Eve designers videos they are planning to have cloud access in future updates.

I'm not sure what you mean by "clouds". There are some clouds (nebulas?) that might disrupt cloak, but thats all I know. Most of the time, clouds are located at mission combat sites, and if you don't do missions, you won't run into them. Since I kill npcs in 0.0, I make alot more alot faster than any missions I could do. It's also dangerous (not like 0.5+ empire space), and makes the game exciting.

There are no "clouds" in eve online like the ones shown in the video.

And you do not have to join corps, but it makes life easier and funner. You will generally be safe in some space, not be able to be shot at by other players that is. It is complicated.

I'm not sure what your fascination with "clouds" is. Anyway, I am currently operating out of system XYY-IA in the syndicate region. You are free to come by, and do some npc killing with me if I'm online. My character name is Kyle Stareye. Just check the local chat screen to see who's in the system.

Clouds are generally peaceful places, you can hide in clouds. And in a game like Eve they are places to hide while you get your breathback, and collect your thoughts. Thanks for the info, probably stop by to say hello when I get enough skills and a decent enough ship when I'm in that area.

Errr...I think you need to learn a little more about the game (no offense). There are pvpers (player vs players) who use scan probes, and they can find you wherever you are, in about 3 to 5 minutes (the better the scan skills, the faster they find you). The only way they can't find you is if you are on a mission or are cloaked. Best to dock at a station when afk, the only place you are truly safe. BTW, I still don't know where these clouds are.

Well '3 to 5 minutes' is enough time to get tyour thoughts together. :-) The 'clouds' are in all the game play movies on youtube, and in all the stills from Eve.
