The children should be our primary concern here as not only are they more fragile, when their parents smoke they are breathing in secondhand smoke nearly all the time.

I'm not going to argue about the dangers of second hand smoke. I'm sure the numbers are unreliable and it's confusing to me how asthma has increased in the population but smoking has decreased. I will say this though, being a parent who smokes only sets up your children to be future smokers. Seeing generations of families carry on the smoking tradition is pretty sad especially after a loved one dies from smoking, then everyone lights up when they leave the hospice.

there's not enough testing done to show that second hand smoke can make you ill since it's illegal to test on humans, that and believe me when I say that the tiny amount of toxins in second hand smoke is NOTHING compared with the heavy doses of other toxic gasses you breath in each and every day. As long as you don't smoke yourself it just doesn't add up.

Here in NJ, there's strict laws about where people are allowed to smoke now. You are not allowed to smoke in public buildings at all, not even restaurants or hospitals. Even if you're outside you have to be so many feet away from a building's entrance. I don't care if this is or isn't true, the smoke bothers me and I want to have the choice of not being exposed to it, thank you very much.
The main reason that tax money is imposed is to discourage people from smoking. Too bad there are still plenty of cases in which it is not enough of a deterrent!

Since there are alternatives to smoking that are safer for the mass the logical course of action would to have one discomforted than another to be forced a carcinogenic risk. Arsenic is also in water, but it isn't dangerous because these chemicals aren't present in high levels. You inhale a ton of benzene grilling with your family, but you won't get cancer because we believe that's just silly. We want secondhand smoke to be dangerous, that's why it is. It isn't a carcinogen.

The claim that is carcinogenic is false, it stems from a ruling on the EPA (the least reputable source for information on SHS) report from 1993. It was thrown out of a federal court for being scientifically dishonest and fake. Those 3,400 deaths also come from this report.

On our secondary note I would say it is more like driving drunk in my car with a passenger. Furthermore since I'm the wouldbe smoker I have a filter that'll take a bit of those chems out so no passenger air bags.

For example the federal courts who handled the '93 case was then appealed to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the EPA's report on the dangers of SHS. I also don't believe most of those other agencies I gave you are willing to risk their reputation by backing only one study. I do believe that they will conduct multiple studies to ensure accuracy from their data.
They didn't overrule it because they believed in the report, the overruled it because they said the case wasn't reviewable (Judge Osteen's decision was based on scientific criticism). It's just another conspiracy by the bleeding-heart left, the same way they want to convict Jerry Sandusky.

This is the statistical gold standard, and curiously they used it exclusively, until this 2nd hand smoke study. Then, for the first time ever, they substituted the dubious 90% interval. Why? Because they had to make the data fit their desired result. Second problem is that they failed to eliminate sample error which would be very probable for such a population.

Dr.'s use the metric called pack-years-smoked . If you smoked a pack a day for 10 years, that would be 10 pack-years smoked. Someone exposed to a heavy amount of second hand smoke for a day is exposed to the equivalent of roughly .03 cigarettes a day, or 10 a year, or, in 10 years, .014 pack years total.

My parents both smoked in the house when my sister and I were young, as did relatives, and we both developed asthma before the age of five. Smoke bothers us very much, and unlike smoking, it's not something we can quit or wait until later to do.

There's really no causal link between second hand smoke and lung cancer. Just correlation. There are lot of other factors in why people get lung cancer (genetics, air pollution, diet, etc.) If you walk someone on the street smoking a ciggarette, your not going to get lung cancer from breathing in fumes for 10 seconds. The only way in which someone could get lung cancer form second hand smoke is if they are around it for long periods of time each day, for years. Even then, it's just correlation.

I'm not going to argue about the dangers of second hand smoke. I'm sure the numbers are unreliable and it's confusing to me how asthma has increased in the population but smoking has decreased. I will say this though, being a parent who smokes only sets up your children to be future smokers. Seeing generations of families carry on the smoking tradition is pretty sad especially after a loved one dies from smoking, then everyone lights up when they leave the hospice.

there's not enough testing done to show that second hand smoke can make you ill since it's illegal to test on humans, that and believe me when I say that the tiny amount of toxins in second hand smoke is NOTHING compared with the heavy doses of other toxic gasses you breath in each and every day. As long as you don't smoke yourself it just doesn't add up.

Here in NJ, there's strict laws about where people are allowed to smoke now. You are not allowed to smoke in public buildings at all, not even restaurants or hospitals. Even if you're outside you have to be so many feet away from a building's entrance. I don't care if this is or isn't true, the smoke bothers me and I want to have the choice of not being exposed to it, thank you very much.

Since there are alternatives to smoking that are safer for the mass the logical course of action would to have one discomforted than another to be forced a carcinogenic risk. Arsenic is also in water, but it isn't dangerous because these chemicals aren't present in high levels. You inhale a ton of benzene grilling with your family, but you won't get cancer because we believe that's just silly. We want secondhand smoke to be dangerous, that's why it is. For example the federal courts who handled the '93 case was then appealed to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the EPA's report on the dangers of SHS. I also don't believe most of those other agencies I gave you are willing to risk their reputation by backing only one study. I do believe that they will conduct multiple studies to ensure accuracy from their data.

My youngest sister had to have an angioplasty at age 9....Just kidding....this is such a bunch of bullshit. This is the statistical gold standard, and curiously they used it exclusively, until this 2nd hand smoke study. Then, for the first time ever, they substituted the dubious 90% interval. Why? Because they had to make the data fit their desired result. Second problem is that they failed to eliminate sample error which would be very probable for such a population.

@gammerstang2009 And just think about it. Is it odd that the threshold for a "buzz" or tobacco addiction is relatively low, yet this never happens from passive exposure. Dr.'s use the metric called pack-years-smoked . If you smoked a pack a day for 10 years, that would be 10 pack-years smoked. Someone exposed to a heavy amount of second hand smoke for a day is exposed to the equivalent of roughly .03 cigarettes a day, or 10 a year, or, in 10 years, .014 pack years total.

Recently, I read about a Swedish chew that is tobacco, but has no carcinogens, so it has no negative effects, beyond the inconsequential ones of a mild stimulant, like a cup of coffee, but absolutely zero cancer risk. It is known as Snus, and would literally save millions in the US, yet our bureaucrats are trying to ban it, along with the e-cig, cause they are nicotine, nicotine is mildly psychoactive, and they resent people making there own choices

This is so stupid ... enough said, I don't have the room on here to show all the evidence proving SHS is not dangerous, to show the legal loopholes the anti-smoking lobbies were allowed to advertise these claims, and the process used to to do it, as well as the slow introduction into this fad .. slowly over time, repeat it enough and ppl will believe it withough question. I questioned it and have the results, including the judges that have thrown much of this garbage out.

I could easily go around and ask 100 people if they ate an apple in the last week, and if any of them have also had a cold during the same amount of time. If 20 people said yes I ate an apple, and I have had a cold......I could claim that a study shows that you have a 20% greater risk of catching a cold if you eat apples.
There is no control in these studies......it is complete fiction.

My parents both smoked in the house when my sister and I were young, as did relatives, and we both developed asthma before the age of five. Smoke bothers us very much, and unlike smoking, it's not something we can quit or wait until later to do.

You have fallen for the govts crapola. 2nd-hand smoke is a small fraction of the pollutants of the industrial age. Did you know that two minutes at a busy four way intersection exposes you to more carcinogens than living w/ a smoker for one year??? No you didn't b/c our crooked lawmakers are paid big bucks by Detroit, and well it would just cause a big mess they don't care to deal with. And don't get me started on chemtrials. Here's a better idea, instead of banning smoking lets have a nation wide emissions regulation on automobiles. Your vehicle puts out far more carcinogens then a cigarette.

Lets ask what the surgeon general thinks..according to him/her and the EPA second hand smoking DOES cause premature death to fetuses,infants,children,and adults.
From a wide variety of diseases.
(I'm pretty sure people wouldn't like inhaling car fuems in their own homes anyway..why add to the problem?)

Non-smokers tend to think it's bad, and that's the main reason behind why it's best to steer clear of them in this setting. the smoking propoganda that got so many people to start smoking is being used by the anti tabacco administrations to minipulate people that smoking is bad for everyone where its only bad for the person smoking

There's really no causal link between second hand smoke and lung cancer. Just correlation. There are lot of other factors in why people get lung cancer (genetics, air pollution, diet, etc.) If you walk someone on the street smoking a ciggarette, your not going to get lung cancer from breathing in fumes for 10 seconds. The only way in which someone could get lung cancer form second hand smoke is if they are around it for long periods of time each day, for years. Even then, it's just correlation.
