2.10 is Marriott, Frampton then comes in for his solo, now Steve was no great lead guitar soloist, but his guitar sound had balls that Pete didn't. I saw them 20 times at least in '70, in London and Europe, preparing for Yank tour, they always did acoustic set first, and brilliantly, the Big Men nixed that for States Tour, this band could do any style superbly, under rated ?, oh yes, in History of 20th Century bands.
@locheelad2 hold I seen The pie in Oakland three oc. jerry drums, Trench , was in the band and steve did Awsome on guitar,, about 5 or 6 standing ovations :)
This b/w photo was taken by me in 1974 at the Kursaal Dance Hall in Southend, Essex, UK. I'd like to know how 'theseeker23' got a copy and where from?
@stratoman2004 Probably via Google Images. Just as well It went to a good home eh? Thanks to guys like The Seeker these classics are getting passed on to new ears. Nice pic BTW :))
@kentishbloke I've got some more pics of the same gig...it was great show. My friend who came along managed to grab one of Jerry Shirley's drumsticks thrown into the audience.
@kentishbloke - Top bloke Greg Ridley...I had the honour of meeting him in 2003 and playing on the same bill as him. This a few months before he sadly passed away.
From their first album AS SAFE AS YESTERDAY IS. Released 1969 My girlfriend at that time bought me the album in August of that year still have it in my record collection.
I recently scored the "Marriott" CD which has a few choice cuts although I prefer the british side and I'm a yankee. Also, the track "You Spent It" from the Majic Mijits is great.
This must be early Pie, there seems to be tension with who's the front man. Same thing with Small Faces. Oh well.. I'm happy with the way it turned out. Forging forward. It all turned out the way Charles Darwin said it would. This is a Small Faces tune right? Yeah, this was how it sounded at Marriott's house in the mid sixties. 68/69. This was Framptons band. He lost that control soon as Marriott took stage. Dreadfull time in world history too. Caused by some backwood super power.
humble pie surely lives up to its name man.they could have gone to become as big as zeppelin if not for personalities crashes within the band. at one time they were bigger than every band in london.
Happy birthday Steve, wherever you are!!

the vocals/lyrics crack me up. "She weighs 200 lbs you said. Wow!" What a great song, great band, the late great Steve Marriott. Incredible!

I see myself jumping around in my chaotic teenage flat. Oh oh, those were the days. They will never come back.

you are too right ... & if you want to hear his voice at it's absloute best, listen to him do backing vocals on Cochise's 'Why I sing the Blues' ....

I still have my original UK LP pressings on Immediate records of As safe as yesterday is and Town and country.
Both LP's inner sleves have the lyrics.
I will never let them go.
