Abused husbands have very little protection under the law due to gender profiling by police and the courts. When a man is assaulted by his wife or GF, he is generally just out of luck.

i just read up on a blog earlier, and from what im hearing, rape can be a pre-existing condition too. i believe the article said Wisconsin........but if a woman has been raped and gets PTSD or something similar and the insurance company or doctor proves that the disorder is directly related to the rape, then she can be denied coverage............nice to know that you can get raped twice.

Why is there a debate about people staying with abusive spouses? Being hit the first time is domestic violence. Whether the victim leaves or not, they have domestic violence in their background and therefore qualify as having a pre-existing condition.
Well the issue may infact not be best suited to staying... of course with the psychological side I understand why they stay. But a lot of the time the first hit is quickly followed by a "get over here bitch" and a raping and a beating. The fact that it's considered a pre-existing condition at all defies both logic and it's definition.

SO..... one of the principles you support is that if you are subject to a repeat avoidable occurrence then your insurance shouldn't operate because you should know better? So if you fall off a bike once your covered BUT fall off it again and "you should have known better.....no insurance???". Driving to work is the most dangerous thing we do all day, we know it's dangerous and yet we still do it. So....no insurance.

These seems like an obscure point, considering that abused husbands have no shelters to go to, especially if they need to bring their children to protect them from violence. Abused husbands have very little protection under the law due to gender profiling by police and the courts. When a man is assaulted by his wife or GF, he is generally just out of luck.

i just read up on a blog earlier, and from what im hearing, rape can be a pre-existing condition too. i believe the article said Wisconsin........but if a woman has been raped and gets PTSD or something similar and the insurance company or doctor proves that the disorder is directly related to the rape, then she can be denied coverage............nice to know that you can get raped twice.

Why is there a debate about people staying with abusive spouses? Being hit the first time is domestic violence. Whether the victim leaves or not, they have domestic violence in their background and therefore qualify as having a pre-existing condition.

Well the issue may infact not be best suited to staying... of course with the psychological side I understand why they stay. But a lot of the time the first hit is quickly followed by a "get over here bitch" and a raping and a beating. The fact that it's considered a pre-existing condition at all defies both logic and it's definition.

Person A is beaten by their spouse. Person A gets treatment. Person A stays with said spouse and gets beaten again. Person A gets treatment. Person A gets beaten again. Person A gets treatment again and again. At what point is it too much?
That said, I don't think this is the actual scenario that the HC companies were worried about. They were just cheap.

it does make more sense to get out . . but if someone says "i'll kill you if you leave me" . . . that's a game changer. people in abusive relationships know what the abuser is capable of . . . and if he's capable of killing you or those you love, you may be more inclined to stay in the relationship.
. . . and that's good that you know you have options . . . everyone doesn't know that . . . or they can't see it.

See, I can wrap my head around republicans wanting to get paid, and stay in office, and yada yada yada. However, what I simply can't get behind, is the notion that, in this day and age, where we're supposed to be getting better as a society, as a country, as a PEOPLE, there are still some who would look at domestic abuse and say, "Yeah, that sucks a bit, and, oh, you're going to have to pay more for insurance, because of it."

Being sucked in by a violent person is difficult. Basically what violent people are looking for is some kind of violence rush. It is like a drug addiction. All they want to do is resolve their feelings by violence (hurting you). It's a fix, they are pleasuring themselves. i don't know how to resolve this. If you have ever known a violent status person, all you have to do is just watch for the signs. Pretty soon they are going to have to try to do some damage with a vase, knife, or lamp.

If you have a "beater" or even "an arm waveing exited lunatic" in the house, you will be in far greater danger of being injured in some crazed demonstration of madness. You cannot really stop a crazy person acting out. It is just too much of a wild card and overall danger. i hate to say it, but if you have a "beater" in the family or in the house, or on the loose it's risky, and can be absurdly risky.

Angered fueled violence is such a "train wreck". A person who does not regard you being as valuable and wants to subjugate you with violence could be called a preexisting condition. If you no longer lived with this dynamic then it would be a different story. Most people are status people so they are "kind of crazy" and will act out "crazy". Very crazy people are dangerous even if they are just "acting out", but they might not have anything better to do than hurt you. Same as driving drunk.

Calling it a preexisting condition, & if she came 2 the hospital 4 the 1st time cause she got beat up by her spouse & they dont cover her or they raise her rate, its wrong, but if she continually gets beat up & has 2 go 2 the hospital if I were an insurance company I would jack the price up too.

SO..... one of the principles you support is that if you are subject to a repeat avoidable occurrence then your insurance shouldn't operate because you should know better? So if you fall off a bike once your covered BUT fall off it again and "you should have known better.....no insurance???". Driving to work is the most dangerous thing we do all day, we know it's dangerous and yet we still do it. So....no insurance.
In matters like this the principle is the issue, not a particular instance.
