The area he's walking around is the Marina district. The Marina is considered the neighborhood for yuppie-20something-pretty peoples. Besides that the major negative about the Marina is that it's built on fill so the land REALLY moves during earthquakes and thus got hit hard in 1989.

Also (ChamberofCommerce hates me for telling you this), secret is weather in SF is great in December.......only in late June thru mid/late Sept. is the fog around to make weather in SF lousy.

Nice thing about the Palace of Fine Arts is the big arches let you get out of the rain but still view the landscaping.
