  • Vicky = Sybil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers

  • Thank you for this. It is a wonderful perfect uplifting joy of a movie. Laughton is a master and Mills shines. "Maggie" is a wonder and the whole cast is just superb. David Lean's script and direction deserves high praise. One of the best!

  • Thanks for uploading all of these wonderful classic films, I enjoy searching through your page and finding all of these wonderful treasures !

  • I played Maggie aged 20 and loved the last scene so much....we finally see Maggies softer side, Will and Maggie a partnership not only in business.... but love x

  • Laughton and Mills are superb, of course but Brenda de Banzai's is one of the finest pieces of acting I have ever seen. Watch in tis last scene as she watches with love and pride and real joy as her husband blossoms even as she watches. When she tests him over the new shop name she pins him with a look and says 'No.' very deliberateky and gets the answer she wanted.. He is now a man and she adores him with her eyes. Watch hers and Mills eyes in this scene.

  • @Blacklily555 many many thanks for posting this film, a definite favorite of mine!

  • Really enjoyed this. Thank you Blacklily.

  • When Brenda de Banzie as Maggie and John Mills as Will put belching, drunken old Charles Laughton as Hobson out of business (despite his "fence you in with the law," he's lost; a Hobson's Choice is no choice at all), I feel the old fashioned urge to applaud. What a great whack at the backside of Victorian egocentric scoundrels, and a great vaudeville turn from Laughton. He, not Olivier, was the finest actor of his age, and a far better film actor than any of the great stage stars.

  • What a clever and well-made, well-acted movie. I liked it very much. How odd that I never heard of Brenda de Banzie ("Maggie") before - I've heard of all the others. The 1880s British shops are so cute.

  • He really must think they are morons to even consider this. He's just desperate to get back to be totally spoiled. Fantasy land. Interesting that the nobility thought they were superior because of a name Here trade people also had their bigotry. No wonder America got so many new citizens from Britian. Who could live under a system like this? Pathetic that people were born, raised, lived and died under such nonsense.// Hobson's lucky that they would have anything to do with him! Rat. lol

  • @Songsmirth HEY..lay off the British..they had a lot of problems but then who doesnt...in the end they built an empire that helped civilize a pagan world...and give birth to the greatest nation of them all...the UNITED STATES....I could'nt see the Chinese or Spainish doing that anywhere near as well..and they didnt

  • You have posted 2 of my favorite movies.. this and IKWIG. Thank you so much: I have watched them both a couple of times now and come the revolution I'll get them on DVD.. you have secured sales for the copyright holders they wouldn't have had!!
