What I wrote is, what the artist wanted me to write! The Mahavishnu Orchestra? Shameful? I saw them almost 30 times, Believe me I am quite familiar with the one you refer to, as the "poor Bugger", my close friend.
Greetings Tristan! Thanks for all the great Goodman posts. It looks like Jerry let his website name slip away last year. Perhaps you could pester him to put something minimal up; we fans would love to at least know of his upcoming gigs with other musicians. "Does he looks dead?" That one had me falling out of the computer chair laughing!
By the way, World Affair gets a lot of spins in me cd player - a terrific recording. Hope I can find your other one state-side some day.

Great Video-good to see both Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the Jerry Goodman/Jan Hammer songs from Like Children on Youtube-appreciate this fact-back in 1973, & 1974, if you didn't have the album, you didn't get to hear the music. Thanks to Youtube for allowing us a platform to keep the Arts alive and in "the now".
He was from Flock of Seagulls then joined the Mahavishnu Orchestra w/ John McLaughlin... then joined Steve Morse in the Dixie Dregs... he was on Birds of Fire, hey this is a higher order of playing really... this composition has a strong Dregs flavour to it... and he is the king of pizzicato, the plucking of a string on violin... just outstanding all the way...
@manoelcaraballo1 um, this is too funny. Jerry was not in Flock of Seagulls. He was in a band called The Flock before joining the original Mahavishnu Orchestra.

I'm a great fan of Jerry Goodman since I saw him and heard his magic violin when I was 13 years old - I'm looking everywhere of some material from him - so sorry that he had left The Mahavishnu Orchestra when I saw John McLaughlin with Jean Luc Ponty in the Netherlands in 1974. This Jerry Goodman was at practice in the 1960's before the Flock years before! After 45-years he stands apart from anyone at his craft. And I can tell you this from fact I went to Roger's with him back in ,,,,,,,,,,,,jpb
Boy are you ever wrong!!!! This guy is famous already and the fact that you don't know who he is puts you in a league of your opinion is worthless to be put on YouTube or anywhere else that has music in it. The Flock do your homework before you take the test. ROFL

Hey, I've been a big fan of Jerry's since the Flock! Does anyone know how to contact him! I just want to say hello as a fellow musician and tell him how much I've enjoyed his work.
No silly G.E., it's all done with Disney animatronics that make Jerry's hands move really fast just like when he was alive.... You gotta love what the youtube trolls will come up with.
Saw you & the boys lots of times around the northern Bay Area way back, including one of the first live gigs you did with Goodman (at the Cabaret in San Jose) after Charlie B. left.
@airehead11 ah yes. the gigs with jerry were lots of fun. as far as violinists go, jerry was the best soloist we had. it was also fun to be on tour with him and hear all the mahavishnu war stories. peace.

Beautiful music. Can anyone tell me the title? I've always been a Mahavishnu Orchestra fan and this is obviously not from that time. I know it's Jerry playing, but I don't know which CD.
Check out either cd by the fellow who posted this video (Tristan des Pres) featuring Goodman. Both are tough to get state-side, but both are amazing & worth the hunt.
Been a while since the Dregs got together but I sure hope we'll see Goodman soon. He is singularly my favorite musician on any instrument, period. I also notice there is a new video posted with Jerry and Ernie Watts. Gotta watch that one!
This is awesome. Jerry's tone on the violin is unique, and I can pick it up in just a few bars. In addition to his known work with The Flock and Mahavishnu, check out is album on Private Music called "It's Alive." His closing number of the "Perry Mason Theme" has to heard to be believed. If only that album were a full-length DVD!!
You are SO right about It's Alive! The Perry Mason theme is great! Not only is the music and performance fantastic but the recording quality is stellar for a live recording! For when it was recorded, it is as powerful and punchy as anything done today. Man ... I'd LOVE to have a live DVD of Jerry's concerts! Check out the band Hectic Watermelon for some more great playing from Jerry Goodman.
