I love these cars. I own a 1989 Honda Accord EX-i, i drove it 7 hours withought stopping. I mean, non-stop. No gas, no pee-breaks or food breaks, and it may have ran better when i got there than when i left...169xxx kilomiters, or 102xxx miles, almost no rust in Quebec.. I love the style, and im just happy to own such a minty fresh one..
Back in the day, I thought the 86-89 Accord was a cool car because it was the only sedan at the time to have pop up headlights which I still wish was available on today's cars.
@dwilsonjr78 "only sedan to have pop up headlights at the time" Can you find another sedan with popup headlights, excluding the hidden ones on the old American cars, that was ever produced?
Come to think of it, the Cord 810/812 from the 1930's had pop up headlights coming out of the fenders which was possibly the first car ever to have pop up lights. The 86-89 Acura Integra 5 door is also close, but the 5 door Integra is a hatchback, not a sedan.
im 17, i have an 88 LX-i Coupe. mint. 100,416 miles when i got her. :) first car and the only car ill need for a while. i personally like these better tha cb7's but these are just getting harder and harder to find in as good of condition. i got mine for $2100 from my neighbor. im the 3rd owner and the last owner only put 300 miles on it in a whole month. great car. Go Honda!
The Hondas of this time were much more fun to drive. First gen Acura Legend was the most fun mainstream Honda ever IMO. That car would literally force you to drive at 100mph on an open road it loved to go fast. It was devious.
I had one of these that was identical to this except mine was an 87' an also no sunroof. I had that thing for like 20,000 miles i drove it hard an it never left me stranded. Loved that car!!
I had an 89 accord sedan new and put 180,000 miles on it. I drove it really hard and it never caused me any problems. That car sold me on the reliability of Hondas. I didn't like the 90 unless it was the EX version. The 94-97 was nice too but the 98-2003 was crap.
The Accord is just not as sporty as it used to be and hasn't been in a long time. Too bad.
My friend has one of these with 370,000 miles on it. Powdery blue color, rust, skate stickers, bad window tint, etc.. Despite my preference for American cars, I'm obsessed with buying it off him and cleaning it up.
The 86-89 Accord was perhaps the best design. Low beltline and hoodline, big windows, small engine, aerodynamic, great materials and quality. The new Accord is a full size car...and high beltline, high hoodline, cheap hard plastics inside.
@F41Driver Well said, I can't even consider getting rid of my 87. haha. her name is "Blue Bird". 200,000 miles with fit and finish that has stood the test of time. the most efficient, reliable and ergonomic car I've ever had, and it's 23 years old and cost eight grand new :)
@dan8852 I used to have an '87 Accord LXi two door hatchback. Had 234,000 miles on it when I got rid of it. The only reason I got rid of it was because it was rusting apart. Part of the rust problem was caused by a shop that damaged it. I bought my '02 Accord EX V6 coupe new and still have it. 109,000 miles and no problems.
@F41Driver I have a 2002 Accord EX V6 coupe. I think the 1998 - 2002 generation Accords look the best out of all the years. Other people told me the same thing.

LOVE the '86-89, only thing that would've made it better would've been a 5-door hatchback.

Well if that's what the engine actually sounds like, I'm glad they told everybody make sure you really like this song before you buy the car. ;)
But seriously, the 89 Accord does have an engine that sings - the engine sounds wonderful!
