You could make the tree rows 3 blocks wide instead of 5. They can share leaves and the items still have a space to fall through. Would make it more compact.

@kounter2 They have a lower chance of growing over time, just chop down and keep planting saplings, having more gives you more chance of them growing :)

@ChannelBeatz If you cut down a tree, the leaves decay, its the leaves that drop the apples, you can break the leaves to get apples too :)

just wondering, as for the apples, wouldn't it be more efficient to plant a tree like only on every third (perhaps fifth) block per row? that might actually provide more leave blocks, hence an increased chance of an apple dropping, and harvesting them should be faster too. well i am pretty sure you won't run out of woods either way. =b
