hello, i want to breed my blue rams, but im not sure if they are male and female..my supposed female doesnt have much color or i bigger dorsal fin...but she also doesnt really have a pink belly either.
my ram has laid eggs for three times but after 26 hours the eggs turn white and mom,dad eats them until than they grad the eggs good is any thing wrong with my water, how much degree should i keep the hitter please help me
@lfclikewalfc I'd say PH 6.8, there is some kind of chemical thing u buy at the store which softens the water :) also, you should have about 25-27 temperature. That's for all apistogramma and german blue ram. Atleast that's what the store owner told me, and he really is an expert!
hey i got a couple questions and problems im having with breeding my blue rams ok so they pair off in my 20 gallon community and they laid eggs twice which the first time they ate em and the second time eggs died when i moved them and the pair to a heavely planted 10 gallon but ever sense then they havnt spawn its been months whats the deal? they just CHASE each other now the tank is probley the perfect breeding ground and they just wont breed hmm... im stumped could ya help me out?
I have some german blue and gold ram too, but I want them to breed. Please tell me how old they were when they first spwned. Can you also the water parameters(Ph, Temperature, and Lighting) and what food you fed them to condition them into spawning. Can you help me!!!
lol as if you didnt know he was trying to type 'easy'.
the answer is yes they are easy in comparison to some other fish but they wont easily breed if you just throw a male and female in a tank. water condition, temp, other fish and environment all relate to breeding them
they could be stressed out because of the space, a pair of rams needs a minimum of 10-20gallons... try moving your other fish to another tank and see if that works cause it worked for mine. also they are a pair as i can see the female has the pink belly.
Hi there! first of all, beautiful rams!!! I do have a question. I have a pair of locally bred Rams in a 20gallon tank, with some tetras and a few danios. The water soft,pH is 6.6, temp 81F, with regular 25% water changes every 5 days. I have provided lots of flat surfaces for them to spawn on, but the problem is, the male hates the female! she mostly hides in the plants, and if she comes out he chases back into hiding! what am i doing wrong?? any info would be greatly appreciated. :)
This is because Rams only spawn when they have paired up. This means that you can't just put a male and female together and expect them to spawn, they choose their partners from young. It sounds to me like yours haven't paired. the best way to get a pair would be to start over with 6+ juvenile Blue rams, and they will pair off naturally, when you have a pair or 2, you return the rest to your LFS. Goodluck!
Hi exoticemma, first of all, female rams are never "pregnant", they lay eggs which the male subsequently fertilize. In terms of the purple on the females belly, thats probably a good sign, since it shows the female is ready to mate. good luck!
we have got 3 dutch ram's 2 females and one male it looks like the have paired up but we have noticed the females have got purple on there bellies since we have put the male in, do you think they are pregnant? p.s it's the first tropical tank we have ever had also they have got a little belly on them aswell?
lol I keep posting comments, but i was just gonna ask, are you still going to be carrying on with this series because it would be qutie useful, if so i will subscribe
Ohhh i got a pair of rams yesterday, i hope they start to breed, they are healthy and happy, they have been pecking the wood/stones but i think they might be trying to eat snails.

Not sure how big of an aquarium you have, but I'd say as long as it's at least 20 gallons you would be OK.

there is not enoug space
at least a 20g is needed for a pair of rams, also, you may have two male rams
