@behemuth T rex grew out of its arms then meaning in proportion it had evolved on having a massive skull because it no longer needed those arms to hunt . A recent test on a spinosaurus biteforce just only exerted 1 ton with a replica of a tooth of a spinosaurus dislmantled i the whole section of the teeth. The other hand T rex bites down from maximum of 183-235 kN which is 58000 pounds .

Lastly, if it could down the rex, it would ensure win for spino, however if t-rex could make spino trip and fall, it would not be as severe as it would have easier time getting up due to its strong arms.

It would still be T-rex trying to get away, or being cautious, would you give the first strike if faced with a lion? all animals are the same, if they are scared of the animal out to kill them, they will not strike first.

But for the sake of the argument, lets say the t-rex cannot flee, the spino will still make the first strike, also considering its reach and bulk is more likely to land the first strike too. In such a scenario, spino's use of its huge strong arms would be beneficial

First a spinosaurus is a fish eater which had a hollow cone shaped teeth only desgined to hunt down smaller prey. The reason why the spino became larger is because it lived in damp aquatic areas which had more food selection. On the other hand the T rex has a U shaped jaw that puts less stress on the teeth.

You go into spesific details, such as guessing iy would not push the t-rex, well if we where to go that deep into the scenario, then we should also assume that T-rex would be scared of spino, and would likley be fleeing when the spino attacked...

No one would argue that a slightly smaller male t-rex would turn tail if a larger female attacked or got agressive, an animal twice the size would send it running.

Spino not being strong is kinda flawed to say, at 10 tons a significant percentage of its body weight must have been muscles to support itself, not to mention the added weight of it sail would require more muscle to support. Like i have always said, a spino and t-rex of the same size, outcome is more unsure, i'm pretty sure t-rex has the strength and bite force advantage then... but at +20 feet and +4-5 tons... i'd give the victory to spino on all accounts.

JP3 should just be watched for the action, what it does bring to the table as far as t-rex vs spino debate goes, is how a 43 foot spino would compare in size and precence compared to a 37 foot t-rex.

That T-rex get the front seat is primarily because it has become the US national dinosaur, so every US made dino docu will angle it so it seams like the nr 1 of all time

@behemuth 60 ft seems a little too long for Spino in my opinion. Then again, that's just me stating out the way I feel about a predator. If Spino was that large, then there must be a damn good reason why it was that big. Its a confusing predator in my opinion, with MANY faults. Other than that, it was a pretty cool predator if you would say.

@MrTobyCure well its not open for personal oppinion, no more than the size of t-rex being 40-42 ft and so on. Its based remains of a large spinosaurus which were 15-20% or so, larger than the current 45-50 ft spinosaurus remains (which at the time also held the record for largest carnivore) Its pretty much accepted fact by now. weight is the only disputed dimension.

as for faults, i can't really see any, it performed well in what it did, or it would never have evolved in the first place.

@behemuth Yea. It was best in its element which was at the rivers or beach shores. It wasn't a bad predator, but fighting against another it would have some problems. Towards what I've read about Spino is that it walks on all fours thanks to the ankle and wrist configuration. I am debating if it truly did walk on all fours, if so, then how could it hunt in the waters? That is something I am in deep curiousity about.

@MrTobyCure You do know that we only have guesses based off the fact that it looked like baryonyx right? we do not have any evidence besides that supporting that it was a sea dwelling predator. its not accepted fact at all. nether is the notion that it walked on all four, which is one of the oldest theories regarding the animal. Most accept the upright walking stance as most likley, as it was used by its cousin suchosaurus. We know virtually nothing about spino save its size, too few remains.

@behemuth i have its still 49 to 55 there is'nt even any evidence to Spino's exact length. The only reference to its size by comparason to t rex bones because the only known skeleton was incomplete. And we will never know its exact size because the museum that was housing the bones was destroyed by RAF bombers in WWII. JP is clearly an example of how the media spices up history.

@AGloriusCrushingz where do you get your facts? there were incomplete specimens suggesting an animal 14 meters long, and one 16 meters if memories serve, then a bone was found that was 30% larger than the 14 meter one, suggesting a 18m+ animal.

So nah.. its more or less accepted that spino could grow to those sizes now, as far as i know there is little controversy in the matter.

They risk their lives every time they hunt triceratops, torosaurus, ect. It must have had tremendous fight skills, from fighting prey, and defending itself from other trexes. Spino was very rare, only 1 skeleton was ever found since1940 it was destroyed during ww2 so we will never know how big it was. in other words, spino has no fight skills. trex would win.
