You have to devote your life to music in order to rock this hard... Those wimpy 21st century bands don't come anywhere close to this level of badassedness. lol
Billy Powell was actually a roadie for the band, and once was fooling around on the piano and was playing this little thing, and Ronnie was like "you play piano?" That little thing was to become the intro to Freebird (which surprisingly he wasn't even listed as a writer of the song...), and in 72 he had to give up his roadie gig, as he was promoted to piano player!
@ACEOO8 It gets taken down because of copyright issues, I haven't been warned so far so It will be up for a long time (Hopefully), I refuse to back down to any shit they may give me, trying to spread good music.
@Oxide008 good 4 u brother, dont ghive up, let me remind u all of u out there that any time u buy a cd,dvd, comp, ipod, lp top, stereo amplifier and any recording device u all r paying for artist ,producers and coppy rights, ending u all have a right to burn copy o record any song at least 6 times 2 for u house, 2 for u car and 2 for u computer, so copy record and burn any shit that appears on u computer lap top or fone device cus u pay taxes to use it like u pay taxes 4 wearing u damn pantyes..

brings tears to my eyes every time I see or hear this would go to Ronnie's grave all the time in orange Park crank freebird and cry RIP even named my daughter Melody after Ronnie's daughter Melody
the ultimate song hands down there isnt a better song out there the pure feeling and energy from this song wow they just dont make music like this anymore
Eargasm is a perfect word for this....when Eddie Vanhalen heard this, he said "No way will I ever play that good"...and he never did or could...In Fact, no one ever could or did, and that is why the band never tried to continue...It was like Robert Plant and Jimmy Page dying in the same plane wreck...And it was Ronnie Van Zant , Steve and Cassie Gaines died, the guitarist all died together in that horrific crash.......what a shame...
What''s happened to all the beautiful bronzed youth of yesteryear? It was when rock was king as this wonderful video illustrates. Can you imagine the burger and flavoured milk stuffed youngsters of today'being so iconic?
I am the drumplayers neighbor,he is Artimus Pyle,we have had a few jam sessions,it's an honor to actually know Artimus,I live in Asheville N.C. if ya dont beleave me google Artimus Pyle drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's so awesome.
Imagine seeing a band like this today - unfortunately it will have to be in our imagination - there are no bands with a scrap of talent like this anymore.
at Oakland Coliseum weren't these called "day on the green"? many bands played per show? i saw judith priest and the eagles at one of these shows, 78 or 79.
This concert was July 4th, 1977 at Oakland Coliseum in CA.. The plane crash was October 20th, 1977. Ronnie, Steve and Cassie had only 108 days of life remaining.
I always notice, have never seen anyone comment, about the piano player, what a great job he did, playing his little heart out. Obviously a long-trained pianist with many hours of practice put in so he could deliver his part in this.
@DaLikkaSto Billy Powell, the piano player was originally a roadie with the band for 3 years. One day he heard they wanted a piano sound and said he could play. The rest is history. True story.
They hired Billy Powell as a roadie. He would noodle on the piano during breaks, and Ronnie noticed him. Pretty soon he was an integral part of the band.
