Van Staal are to expensive there good how ever i will stick with my penn's 750 850 and 950's and my Shimano STL20000SW most expensive at 500 bucks .I have the same line capacity as the van staal with the 850 and 950 and can land the same fish you can with the van's .Get that wal mart crap out of the convo i have seen 50+ wal mart reels blow up with people fishing them off the pier .Have only seen one penn 750ssm blow up from a big ass tarpon . Give me a penn i will land any thing the van can.

First of all i have both the vs and the penn spinning reel. i have to admit the vs is great lol but honestly for the price is not worth getting it, because the penn spinning reel has more line capacity and you can increase the drag at a local store up to 30 pounds drag for only 50 bucks. Pretty much after you increase the drag in the penn you will be able to handle bigger fish than the vs = ).

And increase the drag all u want on the penn.... the spool will break right off. a penn couldnt handle 20lbs of drag without breaking.... only the spinning... . obvi not talkin bout the internationals

Whatever you do dont buy power pro its sucks ass. By some Spiderwire Stealth or ultracast. power pro is a ruff braid, SW is very smooth and limp. trust me it's all I use and I have caught reds,snook,tarpon it's my line of choice. All Power pro gave me was wind knots GAY
I need. I was expecting it to be less powerfull! I love the power it has, I catch snook, tarpon, barracuda red drum every thing inshore and off of a pier. I put it together with a St. Criox legand inshore 7" medium rod fast action, you wont be sorry.

The only thing your VS has on his 950 is that the VS is sealed. This doesn't matter since you aren't swimming with it. He can catch the same fish on his 950 that you can catch on that VS and he paid a lot less for his.

PENN reels for 100-150 $ are top of the food chain. Facts are facts, Van Staal is good reel but it is too Expensive.
PENN's are used all over the world for SEA big game fishing. PENN Sargus is reel from Krypton PENN kick ass , for the MONEY.
