  • I think the banjo guy was put there solely so people would buy the game to see what's going on.

  • Maybe it's just because I'm jaded. but I wonder what this game was in Japan. Did they even bother releasing it there, or was it only good enough for Western audiences?

  • This game has the greatest boxart ever.

I'm dissapointed that the old man on the boxart isn't in the game though. :(

  • Never judge a game by it's cartridge art.

  • soundcloud (dotcom) / ep0ch

    even better ;)

  • @exogen55 Hey! I got one of those! soundcloud (dotcom) / shiryu

  • Now THIS is Phalanx for men(forget about that other lackluster version, plus the music is much better)!

  • Yeah the old guy with the banjo was to make the game stand out. Kind of like how the US version of Biometal used all the weird sports music. It was hard for a shooter to stand out on SNES unless it was a brand name like Gradius, Darius or R-Type.

  • You mean the box art?

  • best version on sharp x68000,is a good shooter

  • long stage for a shooter

  • It's like a mix of Air Buster and Steel Empire.

    It's great. *O*

  • I loved this game! I got good enough to FINALLY beat it after plenty of playing. I agree with those who say the game should have gotten more attention.

  • I loved this game so much I played it almost constantly. I got so good I could get through the first few levels without losing a life. I got to the Advertise Area zone......then the boss killed me.....And I got an N64.

  • gosh, have you ever tried beating that game in hard mode? Its insane but somehow I managed to beat it... One of the happiest days of my childhood! XD

  • Apparently, since there were a lot of space shooters at the time that looked alike, the graphic designers for the US boxart added the old guy with the banjo to give some individuality to the game. I'm kind of disappointed that he wasn't on the box for the GBA port.

  • I can't believe Phalans was left in the dust for games like Gradius. Don't get me wrong, Gradius III is awesome as hell for SNES, but I believe Phalanx should get more attention.

  • I am sorry I missed out on this.

  • It's funny that without the help of the internet, this game would forever be a lost memory of my childhood.

  • couldn't have said it better myself.

  • You know, the game was ported to the GBA. and is actually a rather good port.

  • i keep watching this over and over because the music is freakin awesome.

  • @bqureshi321 a game with a cool music and a game like this it's one called: E.D.F. (Earth Defense Force) check it out. =)

  • i can say this game is the Einhander of Snes, both games (Einhander and Phalanx) have cool graphics, both games have a good soundtrack but both games had been forgotten for a remake , well excepting Einhander because Phalanx have a remake for the gameboy advance

  • Einhander is overrated (square fanboys overhype everything), play G Darius. As for SNES, Axelay will blow your mind. On the Genesis, check out Lightening Force.

  • i have g darius and the idea of fishes, sea horses and a the whole marine cast as bosses looks bad to me but the game is good, we are not talking about been overrated at least einhander bosses are what they are suppose to be...machines, ray storm is another good game i played on the ps1

  • well, the whole fish enemy thing is kind of a Taito tradition started with the original Space Invaders. The creator wanted the enemies to be squids and other sea life, even if they don't fully appear that way in the game, so when it came time for Darius they continued the tradition.

  • yeah i remember the space invaders, there are not enough games like these anymore, einhander,g darius, ray storm, sonic wings, phalanx, as for axelay i played that one too and is cool, lightning force well i dont know, since i stopped playing games for a long time.

  • I loved the mid-boss music for this game it was pretty kick ass in its day.

  • i dunno, the old banjo guy with the spaceship in the background kinda adds a surreal feel to the boxart. just like the game ZOOP, which i cannot figure out for the life of me.

  • they musta been on somethin when they made the boxart, but hey, i liked it haha

  • I'm actually a bit disappointed the old banjo man ISN'T really in the game somewhere.

  • @ThatGuyWithTheHat he's flying the ship

  • i miss this game. its been waaaaaaaaaay too long since i last played it.

  • Maybe the old man with the banjo was out on his front porch pickin' out some Bill Monroe tunes when this huge space battle happens in front of him. Anyway, leave him alone. I rather like the old guy myself.

  • Filled*

  • Classic Game

I remember that if you set the difficulty at about hard I think, you would see the screen fileld with enemy bullets xD

  • i got this on gba it pwns

  • This game looks fun, but for some reason, I prefer Gradius.

  • great game, one of the bast of all time!

  • The bearded man with overalls and a banjo is such a weird image to relate to a space-alien shooter game. Haha, it's such a weird combination (for a while I would imagine it was the bearded man flying the little ship...just for kicks).

  • i love this game, i just love it, beat it the first time i played it, thanks for uploading this, Phalanx A-144 is the best fighter of all.

  • please can u add the full speedmovie now?

or you don´t have play it?

  • this game was alright loved the music

  • Funny Difficulty, right? I loved Phalanx, lovely little game.

  • No, Normal.

Don't see why it's called funny as there's nothing humorous to that difficulty. I still have nightmares of it. Beat the game on normal about 7 months ago, however.

    5'ed five times.

  • thx for the upload. have never seen this game beat yet. plz upload the other lvls if u have the time. thx again

  • I still have this game, I just hope I can get my SNES repaired because I need to beat this game someday.

But I can't seem to pass the third level

  • I absolutely love(ed) this game! Thank you!

  • can u add the full game speedmovie plz!! i need to watch it :) Because you´re good
