  • what camera did u use to make this video?

  • @HopeBusheTV: Canon T2i also known as Canon 550D.

  • @geekyranjit - i don't think it is just a WEP problem, because both my ipad and roku box are unable to get an internet connection even though they are connected. Also the 169 IP address that it's giving is an indication that something is wrong. I wonder if it has to do with the USB modem as a source of internet. though many people on messageboards are having the same issue whether they're connected with an ethernet cable. Please let me know if you have any ideas what might be happening.

  • I couldn't get this to work -

My Macbook is connected to the internet using a Verizon USB modem.

Went through all of the steps successfully to do "internet sharing".

    created a network, password, etc.

When I try to connect to the wireless network via my Ipad or Roku, it finds the network, prompts for password. I am able to connect with good signal strength. BUT no internet.

    The firewall is turned off.

Any tips? In network it is giving me a message that I have a self assigned IP address. 169

  • @cookaloris: The problem I guess is due to WEP encryption as far as I know the iPad does not support WEP encryption standard hence you are not able to connect try disabling encryption and check then also it does not work try rebooting your Mac computer once and then try.

  • @geekyranjit hold on, i just tried my ipod touch for the heck of it and it is able to connect to webpages! (after i changed the IP address from the 169 one to the IP address for the USB dongle).

So perhaps you were right about the Ipad. Do you know how I can disable encryption?

Still does not explain why the roku cannot connect, also.

    Thank you for your help!

  • ok, i have turned off the WEP encryption, and now the ipad is able to get on the internet!! along with anyone else who wants to on my open network, i guess.

Except the ROKU is still not able to connect...

but thank you for the suggestion!

you helped me put together an important piece of the puzzle

  • @cookaloris: Yeah the iPad does not support WEP encryptions only WPA / WPA2...... glad I was able to help :)

  • what to do if i am useing pppoe conct???????????

  • what speed does it share the wifi, how many mbps

  • @cjbht1: its quite fast I do not have a super high speed internet connection just around 4 Mbps and it was able to max it out....... this feature is ideal to be used in emergency situations it would not be as fast as your router coz it used WEP encryption and that is a bit slow.

  • Great video! Thanks so much!
