Here's how I see it, something happened to the world, and it became grey and bleak, and the only way to turn it back to normal is for Luka to give up her emotions (Everyone else), her 'Palette', to bring color and life back to the world, yet to be left behind in the grey world as the rest moved forward. (Hence the plants and stuff growing and the color towards the end with Luka still in the grey world)

all i can get from this is:

there was a great big explosion and it destroyed/killed everything in the town. Luka was the only one to survive with her leg, arm, and eye taken from her, and grieved for her friends. She got to see once more AND play the song with them, before they faded away. At the end, She faded away too, only leaving colors behind
